I took a look at the mission boards last night. (With the full understanding that the BGS was going to take a couple of days to spin up. So I'm specifically NOT looking at payouts)
I took a look through the boards and was kind of pushed back by what I saw. ...and I dobn't think its because the new structure kind of pushes me out of my comfort zone. I think it was because of what it does to the game-play mechanic.
I think the game went the wrong way with the new Mission Rewards options. I know a lot of folks might think this is a good thing, but for me, it just adds another layer of complexity in choosing missions. I was quite happy with the old system with fixed mission rewards. Now, it seems, I need to plow through a great deal more information in order to choose the best missions for my needs. I understand this adds a lot of flexibility, but it also appears to add a lot of unnecessary complexity.
It used to be fairly easy to pick missions (or not). Now, not so much. I think the new system will have us spending more time on the mission boards and less time flying to get things done.
I expect a large portion of the player base (like myself) might have gotten pretty bored doing the same old thing. But is simply replacing the same old system with a different system we have to re-learn a good way to re-energize the community?
Changing the way we do things is certainly no substitute for adding actual content.
I'm not whining. I'm sure I'll just get on with it. I'm just not convinced that it adds any real value to the gameplay...
