Not enough RAM

I've waited what feels like ages to be able to pre-order, and I'd like to pre-order this game, but I looked at the system requirements and it needs 8GB RAM. My PC only has 4GB. Should I still pre-order or am I going to pay $60 for something that isn't going to work? I want this game soooooo bad, but I don't want to spend so much on something that isn't going to work. My PC wasn't able to handle Planet Coaster well until I sacrificed the textures and made the game look awful, then it ran smoothly. Just needing some advice, thank you :)

Hello,

So I do not recommend buying it, if your computer does not have enough RAM, do not buy it. Knowing that there will be updates to fix minor bugs see important.

Probably time for a little upgrade? Quite frankly, 8Gb is considered to be a reasonable base minimum for multimedia home PC these days. You may see less than that in office boxes and cheapest of the cheap notebooks.
Good excuse to get some RAM :)

8gigs of memory are about 50, 60 quid. You have two months. That how much? 7 pounds / 8 dollars a week. And if you manage to save 15/week you've got both memory and the game. :)

I wish, but I don't have the money for that. I just bought this computer last year, and the person who helped me pick it out at Best Buy told me it was suitable for playing most games. I guess I now know not to trust Best Buy employees...

You can buy memory? Is that what you're saying? I didn't know that was possible, what should I buy?

Yes, you can.

The only thing you need to find out is the type of memory your motherboard supports. As you said it was Best Buy, I think it will be the older DDR3 memory, instead of newer DDR4. But at least it will be cheaper. :)
You could "employ" someone tech-savvy from your family or a friend, for example, to find out and change it for you. It's a five minute job, really.

Thank you. I'm going to ask my uncle this weekend, he knows a lot about PC gaming and I think he could help me with this [up]

Never trust the employees. They lie so much, all they want to do is sell you something. Anyway I would upgrade the RAM. Go to crucial and find out what kind you need. Then just go to Newegg, PC part picker or where ever and buy it. I suggest going to 16GB. My motherboard can go all the way to 32 I believe, maybe even 64. Right now I have 16 GB of DDR4 I bought when I built my PC back in 2016.

Go here. http://www.crucial.com/

Either download and run the scanner or put in the manufacturer, make and model of the PC you own and it should tell you what you need. It will tell you the type of RAM you need. I suspect it will be DDR4 but there is other stuff that you need to know. Also the other thing I would consider upgrading if you can is the graphics hardware. It sounds like you will have some kind of integrated graphics. Upgrading RAM may help with that but it won't get you the best performance.

I have 8GBs of RAM for my computer but I'm not sure if that will be enough to adequately run the game. Otherwise I'd rather get it for the console and get a solid experience. Anybody have any thoughts?

All you need is another 8 GB to make 16. But other hardware is also an issue like your GPU and so on. Depends on how much you have tp upgrade. I prefer PC so I would stick with PC at all costs. But it maybe cheaper just to get a console, and I hate saying that. But it depends on what hardware you need to upgrade and how much you can afford to spend. You have 2 months. If it's just RAM then I would upgrade the RAM and stick with the PC version.

So this is what it's showing me: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/ideacentre-510s-08ish

I found a cheaper version I can better afford here: http://www.networkoutlet.com/hp-647...MI-ZmpifOS2gIVFIh-Ch0b0QZmEAQYAyABEgLAx_D_BwE
Would this be compatible with my computer? Would it run well?

He did say 'most' and not 'all' ;)

I don't think so since Crucial says DDR4 and the cheaper one you are looking at is DDR3.

Oh I didn't catch that, thank you! I was wondering, when you are installing the 8GB RAM, are you adding ram to the already existing 4GB and making 12GB, or are you replacing the 4GB with 8GB? If you are adding RAM, would that mean I could just buy 4GB and have 8GB?

I would like to upgrade to 16GB as you recommended, but I don't have the money. Hopefully in the future I will be able to though. For now I think I will stick to upgrading to 8GB :)

No, generally you have to install memory in a single line or double. I believe it's dual channel. Dual channel is the best way. So if you are only installing one stick of ram then you need 1 stick of 8 GB. If you look inside your computer case you should be able to see how many lines of RAM you have. You said you have 4. So if it's two sticks of 2 GB RAM then you can use dual channel. But you can also use 1 single stick of RAM as well. If you have 4GB and you only see one stick of RAM then you can use single channel RAM and that can't be used with an other 4 GB RAM stick to make 8GB. You would need to buy a 8 GB in dual channel which would be two 4GB sticks. Of course you could always just buy 1 8GB stick.

It's confusing, I know.

I have an RX 480 and a pretty good gaming CPU (I don’t recall, but I think it’s a 6th generation i5) so everything else I would imagine would be pretty good.

If you didn't know you could buy memory, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you get someone to put it in for you. As someone else here said, it's a five minute job, for someone who has done it before. For a rookie, it's a potential catastrophe.
