Notice to Devs. Do or die. Exploration.

Three things to start with. If you don't do these... that's it.

1: The debeigeifacation.
2: Add reflectivity from orbit.
3: Add transparency to ice worlds and shine to metallic worlds. Along with the lighting effects.

1. They plan to fix it, we just don't know when or how.
2. Yeah, this would be a nice graphical improvement.
3. Would be nice, but low on the list of things to address I'd say.

These are all graphical improvements though, and honestly won't do much at all to make exploration better (although fixing the beigefication would help the most). What we really need are exploration mechanics and content development.

Yup, and making 'Metallic Planets' reflective (which is a ridiculous notion) would solve that, and we'd see a massive influx of 'Star Citizen fanboi's' would ensue....

Well I could try to criticize the original post and claim it overly exaggerates the problem with Elite Dangerous.

But I have been in conversation with many Star Citizen fanbois recently, and it seems their main criticism of Elite and why they would not even try it is - you guessed it - the planets look like children's drawings.

Am I blind then? I think the planets look spectacular. Barren, sure, but absolutely epic.

I don't know. I've never had a problem with them. But I don't have high expectations.

But seeing my favourite game getting ridiculed on this basis all the time, does sometimes make me triggered.

The point being is that I have been behind Braben for many years. I hated what happened with Bell. But that's my thing. For the love of god dave would you please turn this into an exploration game? A proper one? You are sitting on sooooooo much money. You still. To this day they don't understand something. I know exactly where the Pleiades nebula is in my head. I know exactly where those pesky asteroids are in relation to them. To the second. I know every cluster out to the Formidine and back... I named them.

My thoughts also. First time I've encountered anyone seriously thinking they look like cartoons. Sci-Fi art work, definitely, but not cartoonish in the derogatory sense.

Maybe OP is thinking of the planets on initial approach at a distance? I am thinking of them close to the surface.

2: Have you seen photos of earth from orbit? Have you noticed how it doesn't really "reflect" anything?
3: Reflective surfaces in nature are extremely, excessively, rare, even with fluid effects polishing them. Why do you think only a small number of animals have gotten to the point of understanding the concept of a mirror image? That would largely preclude "proper" transparency on ice planets and most of the twinklies on metallic planets, since there's currently nothing on those we can land on to polish surfaces.

And yes, you come along like an arrogant know-it-all piece.

Boi? kinda flattering. I really couldn't give a toss what you say. All of you. The point being is that I have been behind Braben for many years. I hated what happened with Bell. But that's my thing. You named things in game? Source? No, your 50p notepad from ASDA doesn't count.

Side note on metal planets being reflective: Have you ever seen metal fresh from the forge? Its kinda burnt and not shiny

Metal only gets shiny when ground and polished. Otherwise, it is just black and charred.

Here is a metal body I found while exploring:

Looks about right to me.

If you want all shiny planets, then tell me who is going to grind them out and polish them.

Just put the pictures up. Go ahead.

If I was to choose - classier version between 1, and 2.

Rubbish. In half an hour I managed to obliterate all your arguments. Is there one person going to say it to me? Just even for fun?

I like the planets as they are now because it means paupers like myself can actually play.

But we don't matter, am I right?

The planets looked better before The Age Of Beige, there's no denying. But to say they look cartoonish or like a child's drawing...? Maybe my old eyes are shot because to me they still look great, albeit with less colour variety than before. That it's taking so long to resolve this is a bit annoying, but a glacial pace of change is something we've had to accept with FD and ranting at them in the forum is a tried and tested way to achieve sod all except the summoning of a horde of memes.

Still, I'm curious to know what the mysterious "it" is that the OP thinks will befall FD if they don't adhere to his change plan. Maybe he's going to sic Pennywise on them.
