Even though I've been a long time poster, I never bothered playing during Alpha, Beta or Gamma testing as my pc was very old. I still haven't bought my gaming pc but I did pick up a Zoostorm Business PC the other day and after downloading Direct X, found I could still play the game with the built in graphics (no graphics card on board), as it is a very fast machine.
Anyhow so far I am just using a keyboard and the training missions with default keyboard settings are a bit of a pain. I am grateful to Ben Ryder for producing his docs on keyboard binding (do a search on the forum) and when I get some free time this weekend I'll look at setting this up and going straight into the full game.
It's nice to move from just watching all the Youtube videos to actually trying the game for real. I will have to invest in a throttle/joystick combo and maybe pedals, as the move rates with keys are a bit fast. I believe there is a way to slow down the actual response from the keys but I can't remember how. I'll look into that.
Anyhow, Elite: Dangerous is a great game, something I have been eagerly waiting for and now I have my hands on it, I love it. So well done to the team at Frontier.
