News NPC AI update

Ok this is about about the AI update and not about making people, who are not as skilled as some players, feel like they are to stupid and to dumb to play this game. If you want to brag about your skills make a new tread named bragging or someting. And let people keep their desency when they want to tell how they feel about the topic: NPC AI update. Keep in mind that everybody is unique, so everybody reacts unique on changes. So please keep on topic and comment on the AI update and not on people venting their toughts about someting.

You can keep your sarcasm to yourself. I wouldn't call 2,5h trading for 3 Millions "easy"
But after it i lost 2m in cargo and 1,5 in rebuys, just in a few seconds. So, now, tell how to ever get forward Mr. Knowitall!
Yeah, i know, you dont give a sh**. You are the man, no game to hard. I must improve "skillz"
You're just looking down on the casual players.
Keep it to yourselve, "Pro"! You'll see your Galaxy becoming lonely and the Game die.

Yeah man, those easy millions.... It's such a shame you can't just constantly make easy millions anymore. I totally feel your pain...

Some people may feel a bit offended by mocking comments like this (or the previous). But hardcore players that enjoy danger so much and can delete their old accounts just to start from scratch in this new challenging environment, have every right to make them. If the development team only wants this kind of players, just let the rest of the people that see this as just a game, know.

Getting easy millions is one extreme. Not being able to make any progress is the other. Some people may like the extremes. Probably more people would prefer something in between and would like the developer's view on the situation. If this situation is what they aimed for, we'd like to know.

I never post on these forums mostly because of these kind of comments but dude there is no need for your elite skillz here so move along or be constructive.

I don't know if your comment was directed toward me, if so, I was not bragging and I was sharing my experience with the current AI. Which, is on topic. If not directed toward me, well....my mistake.

Nope I wasnt commenting on you. You problably posted while I was writing. My writing was trigered by the post of Godtron and one other player always telling everybody how leet they are and how stupid other people are that arent as good as they are.

Cheers and sorry I made you feel like I was commenting on you.

No apology necessary. I figured that was the case due to the timestamp. Just wanted to keep things clear. I'm not here to debase others experiences. We're all in this together, and it's going to be difficult to impossible for FD to please everyone.
Cheers!

I'm loving this new NPC, gotta drop tons of cargo last day because a deadly conda NPC interdicted me.I remained with 7% hull and he was satisfied with the cargo i dropped, so he left me be "wise decision commander"well, I was strangely happy to have been in difficulty.I'm looking into hunting these new pirate lords now!

So...basically...I still have to corkscrew my way across the galaxy everytime an NPC says, "This is your last jump, Space Dust"?

/thumbs down.
If you want hard Action go back to Battlefield or CoD.
The language of their Forums are always yours.

This is just to add my vote regarding the new AI, it sucks!

I play ED to play an enjoyable game and have fun. I do not play to get shot up all the time and not have fun.

After Friday's update the new AI is still so over the top that it is not enjoyable to play this game in the current release.

I know how to fight NPC's and have plenty of experience, I also have plenty of experience with NPC's getting my shields down so I had to run to survive, but when the AI is so over the top that it is no longer enjoyable to take on NPC's in my Vulture then the AI is to strong for a game.

Some people complained about how easy the AI was in 2.0 and before, well at least it was enjoyable to play.

As it currently stands 2.1 is not enjoyable to play because most people do not like constantly getting their ship shot out from under them.

I have been playing ED since Beta and it seems to me that Frontier spends way to much time listening to the vocal minority when they should be paying a lot more attention to the not so vocal majority.

With something major like the way they amped up the AI maybe Frontier should let the community vote on whether or not they agree and go with the majority. They could send out a email to all registered buyers with an explanation of the proposed changes with a link to go vote rather than just listening to one group in the forum and then responding to that group's desires.

As a few people have already mentioned, the AI could do with a few tweaks to attack players around the same rank. Would that be so hard to implement? Not a slider from easy to hard but a bit of balance for new players.

I play other games with areas that have "recommended ranks to fight here" or warnings that the enemies will be tougher in this area. At least then you know what you're getting into. Not sure how that could be done in such a massive game as ED however.
I know there are certain zones already that you can visit if you want a challenging dogfight, but from reading this thread it seems that everywhere is now a high risk area.

Nobody wants an easy fight, but a fight you can possibly win or have a sporting chance to win if you're smart would be more appealing IMO.

I started playing around a week before 2.1 so haven't noticed too much difference other than getting interdicted a lot more, but I can see how a lot of people are frustrated by the changes.
The buzz crashes are the most annoying thing to me, but I haven't met an AI with unlimited missiles yet so thankfully I'm still enjoying the game.

Totally agree with you @idahosurge (and many other silent and not-so-silent customers like me). Many people here seem so easily inclined to forget that this is a 'game' and it should be possible to experience it at different levels of experience. Dogfighting is not the only dimension this game claims to offer and a not-so-small slice of ED customers are inclined to experience it on other levels (trading, mining, exploration).
And, moreover, common sense says that the level of difficulty of NPCs shouldn't be an 'absolute' value but should always be tailored to the player playing the game.

I've no problem in putting in on a shelf and forget about it (like I actually did in the past 7 days).

FD, on their side, should keep an eye on the market and consider that in August "No man's sky" will be on the shelves.. wonder what could happen to ALL the unhappy ED players if the game experience has not been fixed by then?

Totally agree. Let's hope some of these inputs find their way up to FD HQ :)

I've been playing since Beta as well and I have to disagree with them listening too much to the vocal minority. They seem to listen to those who are vocal, period. There have been changes that hardcore enthusiasts enjoyed but the rest of the population despised (remember landing too hard and blowing up?? ramming used to equal instant blowing up?? last shot getting the kill on bounties??) so they changed it.

In regards to the AI, I prefer this new AI to previous versions. At an expert combat rank (not that I'm good, just played a long time), it is still possible to fight single ships but you now have to pick your targets a little better. Plus, the system defense AI is a LOT better than prior releases. One thing I could think of that needs tweaking is how often ships interdict players and what ranking the npc is. But that is if the AI controls that. I think some other aspects outside the AI could use some fine tuning (ship loadouts, number of X-ranked NPC's in an instance, and a few others I can't remember) but the AI of the ships themselves to me is better.

As I wrote a few days earlier, maybe it is possible to set NPC AI difficulty on the player side (Easy/Normal/Expert). Not in open play but on groups and/or solo play. This could make the game playable for all.
Also it could bring people together with same skills in a group. I know some people dont like others to have it all easy, but if you set Expert AI its by your own choice and you are as entitled as everybody else to set the game to easy mode.
This game is not an MMO but a hybrid as long as solo play/group play is possible. Good solo play games get their fans due to the game difficulty settings, everybody can play it the way they like.

The one big problem with the sliding AI is since the player data between solo/private/open is all the same, you introduce exploit issues. A player could go into solo mode, put it on easy, absolutely demolish AI , build credit, and then go buy shiny new expensive toys and take them to open mode. So to combat that, do you reduce gains that you can get from solo? No, because then that screws the solo only players. That was a huge reason the data going between all three modes was so heavily contested amongst players.

Well there might be a way to solve this problem. since there are many game server instances (as far as I know, players are not always part of the same game instance) they could assign players to specific game instances according to their chosen 'level of difficulty'. So, you create 3 game instances (easy/medium/hard) and the players automatically fit into one of those 'game worlds' according to the level they chose when creating their profile (obviously the level cannot be changed later). That would sort out all the issues.
And, btw, this solution should also apply to pre-horizon/horizon players too (so, if you never purchased horizon you'll never login into a game instance where horizon players are flying, so to avoid any imbalance or unfair advantage in the game)

Isn't the exploid already introduced by making the game only playable for the top players? They still can make easy credits because they think the game is still to easy while others are having a big time now making credits due to their normal skills not being good enough to keep their ship alive?

After last night I've lost a lot of interest in the game. I was flying a mission to bring 21 units of coffee to 31 Aquilae. Received a mission update that an NPC was being sent to attack me. So I'm flying along in my Cobra Mk IV about to get to the station and I'm attacked by the NPC who is flying a Fer De Lance. A Fer De Lance against a Cobra Mk IV? I didn't stand a chance. After paying the insurance to recover my ship I started back to try and complete the mission. This time I hadn't even picked up the coffee before the same NPC attacked me. I tried to avoid the interdiction but couldn't. Again, there was no way for me to avoid destruction. This time I abandoned the mission and started doing another. But, alas, another NPC with some high level ship attacked me and I lost another ship. I lost three ships in the course of 2 hours. It's tough to take a loss of one ship when the insurance is over 400,000 CR. Three was just too much. I could handle the losses if the battles had lasted a while. Or if I would have even had a chance to try to run away. But when you are dead before you have a chance to do any kind of countermeasures it's demoralizing and certainly makes you feel like you are wasting your time. This new AI system has ruined the game for me. Until it changes I'm going back to playing something else. Perhaps I'll finish Far Cry or start Fallout IV.
