News NPC AI update

I for one am struggling to find a reason to carry on playing. Getting wacked by Asp's while in my vulture, facing pythons that turn on a dime, something (anything) gets behind you and there's just hardly ANY way to get them back in your arcs. It is not my imagination, it is not because I am crap but something is truly spoiling this game for me and many others. 9 times interdicted on a cargo run, and thats a regular occurrence, and its only one jump.. i just turn of the computer.. its a terrible shame as i was really enjoying myself before engineers..

Leave them be and they'll talk when they're ready. They work really, really hard and genuinely care about the game, and us, and when they can they'll give us a update.
I hope so..............

Doing something wrong, hmmmm let me think, nah. I got nailed both times in around 15-20 seconds by an NPC with insta kill weapons due to the bug, and it appears im not the only one, glad the bug will be sorted soon so I can get the FDL out again.
No you're not the only one.............

Yes; it is is shame. I really tried hard to stick with it but it's too much.

I played the original Elite's and I loved this game enough to put 1000+ hours into it.

The lack of balance to the NPC interdiction and weapons capabilities means that the game forces players into a combat role (Obsidian Ant said that himself in a YouTube rundown of the current state of play).

As far as flying the galaxy your way (in my case exploring and doing a bit of salvage and trading for some credits ) it is no longer possible with the game in it's present iteration. And at least no longer fun.

As I said; I really tried hard after 2.1 dropped (probably 100 more hours) but, as of yesterday, I'm actually thinking of invoking the Steam refund based on the 2.1 drop making the game not like what is advertised (and there is Consumer Law here that Steam is exposed to that can make that happen).

So I tried not to be a whiner. I tried to get good.

But I want to explore and not spend all my time in combat and getting destroyed half a dozen times in a game sitting because there is no way of defending against NPC's that are massively overpowered/unbalanced.

Over and out.

Fighting the AI is like taking one step forward and two steps back... Very frustrating

Actually it has become depressing. That is not a good reason to keep gaming. I've said my piece above (based on many hours of play) and I've had my whine and moan now.

Over and out.

I just finished getting enough money to buy my first anaconda so I did. Now I had only 7 million credits left so I decide to go trade more imp slaves for more money. I got destroyed 2 times in one night by an over powered NPC that could kill my python in less than 15 seconds (while also using the chaff launcher. Can't imagine how fast I would go without it).

This has to be bug... until it gets sorted out I'm not gonna be playing any more. Hopefully we get our insurance money back if they do.

So glad I kept 3 games in the waiting. Now feeling like most of you I just put hotas and ED aside and roam dungeons and post ap countrysides. Will be back when things are fixed and game balance restored for a "fly your way" sandbox gameplay again.
I have good faith in FD taking care about feedbacks. This is not the end, just a see you soon.

The current state of the game prompted me to create an account for the forums and post my first comments. Anyone that knows me would tell you that to get me to actually go any where near a forum, things have to be bad. (Yes there are some very reasonable people on here, but there are also some that are not so reasonable and frankly life is too short, so hence usually avoiding forums.)

I have been playing since Horizons, not as long as some I know, long enough to get into a Clipper and A-rate it (Pre-2.1 I should say.... I had to sell it after 2.1 as it was no longer a viable ship to fly round in.)

This makes me sad. The initial buggy AI uber-super-hyper-weapons melted me in seconds, costing millions in re-buys and draining credits like it was going out of fashion.

'Must be me' I thought. So I sold the Clipper and went back to a Python. More guns might be the answer perhaps?

Nope. After the second re-buy screen on the Python, I said enough. And I let the game be for two weeks, playing other things instead during the limited amount of time that I have to spare.

Logged back in today HOPING that it had been fixed after reading the releases from FD on removing the 'tweaked' weapons from AI ships. I went to a Res site, not a haz, not a high, just Res. Same        g story, dead in seconds because an AI security vessel flew into my laser instantly making me dish of the day for anything in green on my scanner.

I can explain this in IRL terms for you FD, Imagine your boss asked you to write an email to a colleague. Now imagine that you made ONE tiny spelling mistake, like an i and e the wrong way round or a comma in the wrong place, and you send the email. Now imagine your boss turning up with security, firing you on the spot and finding yourself outside on the pavement 4 seconds later. Get the picture?

I loved this game pre 2.1 and had spent 400ish hours playing, now I can't bear to even log in again as I know what is going to happen when I do. That is not a success by anyone's measuring stick.

Yes the AI needed to be more of a challenge I agree, but currently I feel like steak in a galaxy full of Wookies.

I look forward to returning to the game when it actually becomes playable again, until then I'll be spending my time and my money on stuff I can actually enjoy.

hi cammanders
i am a french one so excuse me for my bad english , am a big fun of elite dangerous , but sincethe laste update its been so difficult to take down a IA ship they have devastating weapons and and i have so many freinds wont to bay the game i told them to not because of that probleme i spent like a 25 million for my vultur and a diamond scout took me down in 2 minut so 1.3 mil for the inssurance minus , so am         borried and so angry , we spent a lot of time to make credits for outfitting the ship and so much time to grap up in power play at the end a         update hou make every thing difficult more and more difficulte so for the time i will pute the game outside until the you will fix this      .[mad] [mad] [mad] [mad] [mad] [mad] [mad]

Well I am done with elite I guess. Too bad I really liked this game but now the AI is just absurd. Just not fun for me anymore. Unfortunatley I see that many people like the AI so I it looks like Frontier will keep it. It is interesting how my favorite game of all time almost instantly became a game I won't play. Thanks I feel better - bye all.

Sorry to hear that, but yeah, it is funny... A few months ago I just about had it with ED. It simply wasn't engaging at all for me and all I did was doing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over with absolutely no variation except for what I did myself. Now, with the new AI, there is enough variation to keep me occupied for hours and it finally feels challenging and dangerous to be out there. Elite Dangerous finally feels alive!

yeah you look verry happy i dont know how you can be , i just sold the vulture and buy a typ7 , you know what happend after that first trad rout after 2 min out , booom nothing , putin de , i will uninstal this junk , its not fair , i play just the week end am not 24/7 gamer , i do it for fun to experiment the differents ships , now its just fu7ing impossible , 16 mil disparus dans les assurances , eh bein j'emmerde les développeur pour ça .

Well spoken - but - i had a dream and for a long time Elite went into the right direction (not perfect, not full of all things on my wishlist - all was "just in progress"
- but we all have seen the progress in steps Elite had done).
When i began playing Elite, 2 years ago, it was cool - interisting - so much things to see and ways to go, but now everythings is getting more and more difficult
and full of bugs and epic fails in design - and it goes boring.

I agree that the AI really needed some kind of improvements - i startet as miner (i got bored about my first "grind-tour" - but i was okay for a few weeks), than i sold everything
and spend a lof of time with mission deliverys as a trader (my second grind - but it was okay ... i accepted) and i was bored again - but my goal was getting a
cool bounty-hunter ship, so i played a lot of missions and grinded the RES and Systems nearby again. It was cool - i found my "my way" of playing Elite - like others
with mining or trading - things i totally respect. IMHO - th AI is totally bugged now. With almost 1.9 Billions Credits and 1500 hours of gameplay iam feeling like a noob now,
cause

- every time i go to a RES (normal, high, hazard - doesnt matter) ... ELITE FDL/Conda attacks me w/o bounty or follows through supercruise like screwed-up Player
- and i got only 200 Credits, after 15 minutes of dogfight ... (killing these "Elite"NPCs) ... some are clean, some are wanted - doesnt matter : 200 Credits - thats it
- i earn only 500.000 Credits in RES or bounty hunting per hour and pay more the half for repair-cost ...
- missions are bugged (NPC doesnt spawn) ...
- and so on
- tired of writing all the bugs with 2.1 release
- tired of playing "Wheel of Fortune" with RNG elements to get better weapons
- tired of all grind-elements
- tired of reading forums or watching YT Videos and study Excel "material sheets"
- tired of boring gameplay
- tired of 400 Mio Plantes in a Star-System ... and sometimes it takes days to meet another player

Fun has gone for me - atm i see no sense playing Elite, til it´s fixed and better balanced (AI).

2.1 RNG/Grind is totally no-go and Player are forced to do all that boring massive grind to survive against NPC or other player.
This looks like a new way of pay-to-win for me . I payed enough til now - i supported FD with ED, Horizons, Skins and so on ...

Give all Players, who like, a "Kung-Fu AI Button" with higher NPC or payouts - whatever - everyone choose his own way - blaze your own trail.
But give all Players their own way to choose how and where they wanna go now - same chance for all ... before they leave the gameplay

@ Insomnia : Respect and Kudos and your way of Gameplay :) ! sooooo cool - and worth to see ;)

Hello, sorry for my English, it's Google translate....

I'm 42 and I do not play that often.
I have a family and I can not spend all my time on a game. Elite is for me an exception.
Only since the 2.1 update, I do not find any pleasure in playing. I'm not a fighter pilot, I'm not a "hardcore gamer" ...
The AI is too strong for me, all the better if some gets there, but not me.
I just regret the time I spent on this game and the supplements I paid horizon or the paint to my ships.
I find most interest the limited engineering system too complicated, requiring still spend hours to find the resources.
Thank you remove this update, or return to the previous AI.
I played an hour a day in the evening, I have to be 2heure a week ....
I think without correction, I will stop playing ... yours, Need for speed is from 70 to 35 € ...

To sum up everything , what i can say is :
Ai bugs were frustrating for top ace pilots prior 2.1 (dumb spining monkeys) but it was not everytime and at least was convenient for the majority of average "fun hunter" pilots . And moreover could fit with the others professions .
Ai was clearly not the priority. To FD : it is all to your honor to have spent time and effort improving combat AI. However there were some many other bugs to shew up. Now you just add to your schedule a very difficult AI balance to achieve .
To top ace pilots : you wanted challenge . Even older Ai could give you some . Just go chase wings in an undergraded ship of your choice.
Cheers

I'm sorry to hear that some people feel disappointed by what the game has become. I think that part of the disappointment comes from not knowing FD's point of view. The latest newsletter had nothing about the AI situation and this silence has been considered that FD sees the new situation as final. Some people in this forum have strongly supported the new AI. I understand their point of view. If you have been playing the game for 2 year as a friend above says, it's a miracle that you were not bored before. And ED has been a "miracle", a very addictive one too. It was all that we had imagined when we played its predecessor back in the 80s (I had reached Deadly rank before dropping it back then).

I have shared my opinion before and it has not changed. I'm not planning on writing off this game, even though I have almost stopped playing it since Engineers expansion (I have something like 5-6 hours of gameplay since). I believe that eventually balance will be reached. I (want to) believe that FD has not abandoned the initial goal for this game to be played by many different people with many different styles. As an old school representative, I play with just keyboard. And I have more than 20 keys that I need to use during a fight. Frankly I must look more like a secretary than a gamer when I play. But I adapted and I was doing quite well. It was fun playing and even though I intitially felt overwhelmed, the game allowed me to get better. This is not happening now. Even after the latest patch, the game is still too unforgiving. Not all fights are impossible but impossible fights are very often. Even the fights you win seem to be with serious losses (hull damage, subsystem failures, even canopy some times), every fight is a big challenge, even if you are not looking for trouble (no bounties, no missions, just some cargo maybe).

It seems that FD has found an AI that many people like. I think that this AI should remain in the game somehow. In special areas, with special settings, I don't know, some good ideas have been written in the previous days. There should be the ability however to tune the AI down when you don't want it that hard. To make it less agressive and more forgiving. This way more people will be motivated to get better in fighting and advance in the game. Of course the rewards for playing the game in the hard mode should be better and maybe some penalties should be imposed to the ones that choose the easier path. This is what most games do and it's fair. What I don't know is how easy it would be to impliment it. Since this is a very reasonable enhancement, I don't think that FD will reject it. Eventually I believe it will be available. So I won't write off this game just yet. Yes, it's not fun for several players now but it's potential is such that we can hope for something even greater in the future.

Seems to me that I am not alone in my struggle. Trading doesn't seem an option anymore. Losing credits on rebuy ships after being interdicted the whole time is not much fun.
I want to explore but what it the point in going out 1000LY's and amassing system data only to lose it all as soon as I return to the Bubble and face an NPC that is impossible to defend against?

What is the point in exploring and discovering when all you discover is a randomly spawned NPC 500LY's out that is impossible to defend against............ and there goes my data.

And yes; the same goes for trading.

As I stated previously in this thread the balance of the game has gone too much towards making every action in game combative which is not what the game advertised.

Explore the galaxy your way? That is not possible at the moment.

I played the original Elite's and I did have to defend myself in that game too (and win) but that game universe was well balanced.

All I have now is 1000+hrs of frustration and bad feelings.
