Put all the enhanced AI in open and leave the other groups to those who either don't want combat or are, like myself, not very good at it
Or maybe learn how to adapt.

Partially agreed. I think there must be balance. Old was way to easy ..... new is terminater style.
I think if the AI is right between then and now .... its perfect for everybody.
For now ...... i leave the game alone till its more balanced. Some will state i'm not escaping the correct way ... or do other stuf wrong .... well i do all mentioned in the forum ... watched escape video's ... still get killed in 50% of the cases in my T7.
I submit .. target next system ... ow BOOM killed before jump.
Hope the balancing comes soon ... because i mis playing [sad]
You just can not say this to a new player, Elite is a complicated game to learn when you first start playing, and asking a new player to try and keep up with the new AI is just not going to be fun for them and they will probably leave with a bad taste in there mouth. have the new AI only in open play, keep the old AI in solo and suggest to new players to say in solo until they master the basics. after all that's is were FD are going to get there money from, they already have yours and mine. you then have a choice to risk or gamble your hard earned cash and not be forced into losing some thing you spent so much time getting.

Come to think of it, since I parked up my T7 I have not had the problems with the deadly AI, may be its the type of ship you are flying that triggers the AI .

I am not a new player just a player that is not interested in combat
I don't think new players will have a major problem. During beta I restarted my save and it wasn't too tough. It does have a steep learning curve though.
Also ignore the steam reviews, if you look at the time most oof them were written was when the NPC's were bugged with super weapons. Also a lot of them are by people who have played 100s of hours.
You just cannot reset your save and expect that you're experiencing what new players experience, unless you could erase your brain as well. This is not a good comparison. There are tons of tricks that you learn as you play that just simply cannot be taught to new players.

Then hi-wake it out after a ship has interdicted you. Harmless NPC's are still very harmless, most don't have shields and their aim is appaling. Combat has always been a massive part of the elite games. You are flying a ship in a cutthroat galaxy, where people want your cargo, you fight, run or die.

And BTW why didn't you also reset your main game character? Afraid of something? Too challenging maybe?
I reset my main character in 2.1, & I can confirm that it's not too hard, because the NPC's you meet are very much determined by your current combat rank. In random encounters, I never met any NPC's higher than Expert.....and those were the exception. Oh, & surely you could make your point without being so rude and abusive?Seriously, one of the silliest comments ever. Resetting your character does not make you a new player! Lol... You have no idea what it's like for a new player today. Your new player 'experience' was quite different. It was far easier. (And BTW why didn't you also reset your main game character? 2.1 is bad for new players and bad for the long term health of this franchise. It's not fun for many.

NPC are incredibly too strong... i can't even turn my ship to have them in front of me as they outmanouver continuously...
I'm with Lavigny-Duval and Federal Agent are stoping me in RES field... I cannot even bounty hunt !!
Luckily my cargo is empty because otherwise i would have 10 ship straight against me... including Anaconda, Fer de Lance...etc.
Even if i kill Federal Agent, i'm sure more will come back... when i'm bounty hunting...
What are doing Federal Agent in a RES site ?! It's even not a strategic place for Power Play...
I'll have to leave my power if it's continue like this... and then i'll see Anacadonas, Fer de Lance... are impossible to play... grinding will be even harder if we only have to destroy small ship...
Edit : I finally managed to fight against the Federal Agent by attacking him first and using reverse thrusters to have him in front of me... But never put down his shield below 50%. He had a Vulture and me a maxed out Cobra Mk3.
Then i had a 400cr bounty on my head because i defend myself from the Federal Agent... And then Security Force came to hunt me down as i was wanted... (It's a bug !).
Lol Vulture vs Cobra... Yeah I wonder who'd win.![]()
Maybe the ranking system is at fault.
This appears to be the way the ranking works: Each kill increases your rank (with kills of higher skilled NPCs/PCs counting more than lower skilled.) There is no balance... you will always go up no matter what, and the game will ever get more difficult. Eventually, players will never be able to play because the inevitable ranking increase means you will always face NPCs that challenge your rating level (but not your skill.)
Perhaps the ranking system needs changing! Perhaps like this
For every encounter that you lose, or run away from damaged, your combat ranking drops. In this way, if the NPC skill is too much for you, you eventually reach a point where you level out... meaning you have a share of running away, but still the ability to face and deal with most NPCs you meet... being your ranking level.
This, in a sense, like some exam systems. You get harder and harder questions, until you start to fail some, then the question difficulty is reduced until your competency level is properly determined. The constant increase in AI difficulty because your rating never reduces is the cause of most people's problems with the AI.
