NPC names origin ?

Some days ago I meet my NPC "alter-ego", a Conda with my Conda name (Homer Simpson...) so I wonder if some here can tell me, please, how the devs choose the names for the NPC ships ?...
Is this, somehow, "inspired" in real-players names ?
Not to say, some minutes ago, I meet a NPC called "TesticPower", make me laugh hard, this one... are many hilarious names out there, on the NPC domain, so guys, how they get those names ?....

The names are picked from a long list. Some names were suggested by early backers of the game, but most of them came from popular culture references.
