Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

That's a surprise. I thought you sell to Universal Cartographics and not to the station, so the rep is not affected.
Yep, it was the intention that you could sell the same data to all three factions! - Yet to be implamented though and why your rep goes up with the faction you sell to.

Does anyone know if reflective armor offers greater protection against heat?
I was considering going with renforced armor for my next trip, just for peace of mind when out there more than anything else.
Hmm sounds like a red herring, I would go with a cooler running ship, rather than heavy amour. Being in a metal box too close to the sun is going to get hot no-matter what.

Yer I figured it wouldnt, but I just suddenly thought, "laser, heat, sun, ooooo maybe i can fly into a blackhole with reflective":p

Cos you know you can bonce on the sun's surface, its like you get past the corona and then your heat levels out again....

Heh, good idea. It's a monster of a planet. With a radius just under 18000 km I make its surface gravity about 140ms-2, pancake time for earthlings...

Normally I'd complain that with all the land it's an earthlike, but at that mass I agree it's not earthlike ;)

Hi All!

Can someone help me a bit? Where can i buy D5 power plant, D4 life supp., D4 power dist.? I cant find these things:S

Okayyyy now im scared...

...so I just logged back in today, and yesterday I went through bunch of systems and I logged out at system which I just had ADS'd and scanned main star... Now I log back in and nothing's scanned... can I trust this game right now? have my progress been saved? ... is it all for nothing? O_O

Edit; there really should be some onboard "databank" where you can check this >_>

I think there's some kind of bug whereby scanned data in the local system can sometimes be lost if you log out there.

I have two bits of news to report:

1) Water Giants aren't worth much, they're only worth the same as a low-value Gas Giant.
2) I found a Candidate-for-Terraforming Rocky World. (at HIP 31005, which also has several HMC/CFT worlds and is well worth scanning.)

I wonder if that means there's likely to be a candidate for terraforming metal-rich world out there? Seems like a 100% metal world would present challenges!

Yes, my thoughts exactly! Rocky Ice, Ice, Metal, Ammonia...

The CFT Rocky is actually the moon of an HMC/CFT world. Looks like we don't get many Rocky worlds generated normally (as planets per se) and they're not generally in the habitable band or of high mass (guessing there's a minimum mass cap for CFT planets), but when conditions are right... same goes partly for Metal-Rich as they're usually closest to the star (that may even be a consequence of their existence, the rock getting boiled off or something.)

Though after engaging brain for a second Ice would be impossible and Rocky Ice would present serious challenges to the terraformers once half the world evaporated under Earth-like temperatures. ^^

Tip for remembering which star classes are scoopable!

If you are having trouble remembering which classes are scoop-able, here's an easy mnemonic for you:

A lways
B e
F ueling
O r
G onna
K ill
M yself

I wonder if an Ammonia world would be technically possible to terraform, the two I've seen are pretty low temp and far out, I suspect if they weren't ammonia worlds because of the life they'd be icy/rocky ice and hit the same limitations as you've outlined above.

Plus given the many more suitable worlds we've found already, I doubt they'd be even a 10000th choice to terraform.

Hi Nutter I have to say this is an amazing resource. Thank you.
I would like to return a few bits of data that might back up your findings. Below are the rewards and specs for a couple of the best places I have visited to date.
These two are next to each other making a visit there well worth while for the short haul (400 ly) traveller. I was scanning everything at this stage (having not read your tips).
HIP 91018 - 96,455 Credits (advanced planet scan)
Class A (1.5 SM)
Class G (1.00 SM)
Class M (?? SM)
Gas giants with water based life x 3
Class IV Gas
Class III Gas x 2
High metal x 5
Water world x 2 (1 with water rich atmos)
Rocky x 15
Icy x 1
COL 359 TS-T D3-66 - 62,940 Credits
Class F (1.38 SM)
High metal x 6
Water world
Rock ice x 2
COL 395 NR-V D2-75 - 70,021 Credits
Thanks again.

perhas this info about galaxymap can help to someone to pick proper systems. if you activate map in galaxy map and turn off all filters, galaxy map will show you star types expressed by colours.

you should look for white->grey->blue->light blue->yellow->red colours. perhaps it will raise your profits from exploration :)
