Just a FYI, repair modules do not repair critical systems, nore do they repair wear and tear. I've flown many light years and not once would having one made any difference. Waste of money and also add to the wear and tear cost. Pointless IMHO. When it comes to fuel tank, fit a large one, run half empty and fill up to cross clusters of unscoopables.

Well, what do they actually repair?
I would say the intermediate scanner is a waste of money - 1,000ls range is pathetic increase in range from the standard 500ls in the context of the size of systems.

In my experience if you find it hard to locate objects with the basic scanner, the intermediate one isn't going to help much. Many objects can be 10,000 - 30,000+++ ls away. Getting the advanced scanner is well worth it imo if you like exploration.

yeah, intermediate scanner is waste of time and money, better save for ADS.
It's not 'a waste of money' because you get its worth back when buying better one.
yeah but it doesn't make money either. right now most people are using trading to earn money, and then spend that money on whatever it is they do. So i'll just bite the bullet and save up.
In several of the more far away places, you will have black holes 300k away from the entry star. Would be impossible to find without the ADS. 1000 is rather pathetic for even most 1-star systems. 10k and we would be talking
Most modules, but not some of the critical ones (power plant and thrusters IIRR), and they won't fix a broken canopy.
yeah the intermediate needs a buff big time, it's just not worth the investment for such little return.
Yep, PP and thrusters are not repairable. Also wont repair your scanners or hull. I just got back from a week long excursion and before selling any data, I sold the repair module I had bought. I hope they give us a repair module that can actually repair the stuff you would need to repair on a long journey. Hull, PP and thrusters. There were a few systems I jumped into and ended up between 2 stars, I could have used a module that actually repaired the damage I accrued from that.

I'm offline at the moment but the wiki indicates that thrusters all have an A integrity rating. I guess they probably have the same number of hit points and/or degradation rates. If that's the case then saving weight could save jumps occasionally and get you back sooner/before they ware out.
Thanks for the advice. I also incorrectly assumed that a class 5 power plant would be better with heat management than a lower class, seems only the quality matters. So I swapped my hard earned 5A power plant for a 3A power plant, 7.5t less and 4.5 million back
With 4D thrusters and 3D power distributer it's not a very fast ship, yet I'll hardly be spending any time out of super cruise anyway. It can do 36ly jumps now with half a tank. Without many weapons and strong shields, it is indeed very nice to be able to scale back the power plant to save on weight and cash!
I never use the route planner, I just pick the nearest likely star that's along my direction of flight.
Still only a Ranger (after"30 minutes of finger-blistering action", as Nutter would say!), but I did have great fun flying to the California Nebula and nearby locations. One moment on the way back when I saw an intriguing star cluster ahead of me, and wondered what it could be... ...it was the back side of the Pleiades.

I'm out that way and I've just scanned HIP 18175. It is a silly system, and this is by far the silliest thing in it:
It's orbiting a Class M star that's orbiting the Class O main star as a planet. A 20th planet.
I'm declaring it SILLY.

I just found a crazy system... has 12 stars one big in middle one is a binary and one has its own circling star. few plannts inbetween them...
that is not all of them im takiing pic from the binary pair and i think there is some hidden behind all those there.
3 days work about 1000LY trip with loads of full detail scanning and plenty of time lost on finding planets with just basic scanner paid me 700k CR i think not bad... visited Chamaeleon and Coalsack...
I am happy... that was my first exploation trip. now save up for ADS and go into the unknown for more...
oh and that system is called Acrux and paid only 32,410 CR i had better ones.... best one was 55,688 CR for synuefe SP-E C28-9

Following on from post #204 . . .
After a fortnight of technical issues and discovering unstable sectors, the galactic core sectors seem fixed (fingers crossed) :

Latest route map taken, with references of things to see :
When this journey is over I'll try and put some sort of travelers guide together highlighting where really interesting stuff is to be found in these distant reaches of the galaxy. It would be interesting if explorers gradually built up a catalog of their points of interest, alongside maps showing the wonders of the galaxy!
