Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

That is not nice... i take pictures of most of the interesting systems. i pass on the boring ones so i wouldnt even notice.. i probably would miss if that was one with good stuff...im far out and cant check now but on the sell day i will look at it...
and that will be after patch... not rushing back. im near elephant trunk and heading for bubble so that will be days for me..
i stream a bit of my struggle for couple hours every day just for fun. if anyone wants to pop his head in and say hi look me up on twitch same name as here.

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere on this topic that someone is collecting data about ringed water worlds, so here you go, it's my first one.

That is 5th Black Hole today its from 0.82Ls away. closest i got to a BH was 0.22 but it was not comfortable feeling :p
but the worst one was my first Neutron as a main star. i jumped into nothing... not nice first time :p

and to make my day :
earth like.jpg

To summarize today:
1 Earth like
3 Neutron
5 BH
4 CFT

and i moved from NA nebula to just outside Elephant Trunk
yey!

Well, after 430 systems visited, i've so far sold about 240 and made 5 million, plus gone up to ranger. Only another 190 or so to go, been at it most of the evening, really looking forward to 1.1 now...

Are ringed Earth-likes common? This is the first one I found...

Not an Earth-like, I know, but I was just passing through Tyche, which is in the middle of populated space just 2 or 3 jumps from Shinrarta Dezhra, to find that it is unexplored (despite having 2 spaceports, sigh), and has a ringed Water World. So a nice quick bunch of credits for anyone passing by.

Guess what type of planet this is.

High Metal Content (Seriously)

Don't worry. I also found a couple of those and was a bit frustrated the first time. Also the blue may not be water. :)
I personally think that the procedural generation needs some tweaking in such cases.

As u said it may not be water. And it would be to easy and predictable if all planets look very similar. Jumping system to system looking at system map would give us 100% accuracy that would be most boring. Few surprises are welcome :p Even nasty ones :p

/wave I just left Elephant trunk, heading for the blinking nebula right above NA nebula.

On the way to the Elephant's trunk I found an earth like orbiting 3 suns. I can use some of that sunshine, -18 here currently.

I am on the way back after a 3 week tour, day 22 already. Yet maybe I should drag my heels and go Sadr, California, Pleiades after NA. How close to release is 1.1? I have about 1200 systems to sell, don't want to do it 1 by 1.

If I were you I would stay out until the patch, there is a nice cluster of Nebula round there, some nice photo opportunities lining them up and getting them all in view, maybe from a distant planet or Giant :) That does mean at least three weeks though - but I'm holding back on deep exploring until the patch is out and working. - I'm going to stay local and make some more how-do video guides.

I'm sure we aspiring explorers will get a lot out of any new guides you can submit.

What is the...is it "long range route-planning"?...likely to consist of? Can't just remember what you called it now; the next one proposed on page one.

Edit: oh it's "How to Plot a Route" and it seems to be up.

Off to take a look :D

Edit again: no it was the "Out of Range" one.

I'll get there in a minute!

Hey nutter, whats your explorer rank and how many credits did it take to get to that rank? Just curious
Thanks

Excellent, I'll add it to my itinerary. :) I've never seen any mid-range water worlds yet I don't think.

I've found something interesting which clears up (sort of) our long-standing mystery as to why Class II gas giants are worth so much more than other gas giants - it's because they use the same value curve as HMC worlds. :)
(I know there are much higher mass HMC worlds out there, but I only have data up to about 100 Earth masses.)

The Class II gas giant thing is a bit weird, I wonder if there's an in-universe reason for them being so much more valuable (best type for extracting gas for fuel? something to do with the water in the upper layers?) or it's a bug. Doesn't help that they all show Class III description in the system map!

Do you visit every planet or fire the horn and move on? My OCD won't let me go until I have explored everything, even if it is 500k ls away.

Personally I have a 5,000Ls limit now, unless I see something potentially outstanding on the sys map.

I'll never make it to Sag A* if I keep stopping on the way - not even sure I'll have the time to make it using my limited method.

Regarding my catastrophic accident involving close binary stars described few pages ago, ~5000 LYs from inhabited space... well, I managed to reach the civilization after carefully plotting my route around (almost) all multiple star systems, and surviving few rather dramatic interdictions. I didn't want to risk losing that interdiction minigame because it's very likely that I would instantly die, and submittting without shields and hull at 7% was not very enjoyable experience I can tell ya. Perhaps it was a point defence which saved my ass after all.

Anyway - 10 million worth of data sold, promotion to Ranger, and something to remember... yeah, this was quite a nice trip! :D

Btw among other things, I found this interesting two-faced planet, tidally locked to very close hot star. So it's superheated on one side, freezing on the other:
