ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

Frontier are possibly running close to broke. And have probably decided to let this game drift for a while in favour of smashing another title out the door asap.

Flimley
I agree Frontier shifted resources to other projects that will bring in income.
Those projects probably fell behind after devoting lots of resources to Odyssey.

Working now on Elite won’t quickly bring more income

Now you didn't read his post either. What StuartGT was telling you was that the sinking ship was nowhere in the title. It was: "Frontier - what the heck is going on with Elite Dangerous?"

e: Too slow.
Actually it is the headline, just not the name of the video.

I don't want to participate in the OA bashing, but let's not be dishonest. It's the headline and it's what some people would call clickbait. Also, everyone working with media knows that the majority of people doesn't watch videos / reads articles but just looks at the headlines so I guess it's not completely wrong to point it out.
On the other hand, that's what everyone does and I surely wouldn't blame OA for something that became pretty normal even for professional news sites etc. If something doesn't catch the eye it isn't competitive anymore and I would guess OA knows that as well. Welcome to the internet.

A video's thumbnail isn't a headline, it's a clickbait image intended to get viewers to click and watch. The video has 96k views and counting.

Secondly, the thumbnail states "Elite Dangerous - a sinking ship?", clearly using a question mark - unlike what Winterwalker stated (itself either misinformation or a lie):
His headline is a sinking ship, as reason for Frontier not putting out development news.
Thirdly, if one yet still mistakenly counts a thumbnail as a headline, one can also safely apply Betteridge's Law Of Headlines - aka the answer to the headline thumbnail's question is "no". 😃

I think part of the problem is some people only see what they want to see, not what's actually in front of them. Same probably applies to hearing, reading, etc.

clearly - these are like 8 of his last 10 videos in the last 2 months

Now, maybe we should compare with his videos from 2019?
That year was another not so great year with 4 Interstellar initiatives, but less overall CGs and a really crappy September patch that required, iirc, 3 updates to fix most of the broken issues.

Yet his videos were actually about the game content and not about what FDev does to the game (or doesn't)

Oops, it seems that i can only attach 10 files, but it goes on the same note - 10 videos in a month- october-november 2019,- rather positive and the vast majority about in-game content. But back then it seems OA actually played the game and he liked it.
And guess what - for the failed September Update OA had one single video "What went wrong with the September Update?"

Your very nice billboard is more of a scathing review of Frontier than it is Obsidian Ant. He's just reporting the news. 🤷‍♂️

One way to test this is to have Frontier do something exciting, like, I dunno, give Odyssey players fleet carrier interiors, and see of OA reports on that or not. If he ignores the good stuff, then I guess you're right, he's biased.

ObsidianAnt's other three (not two) videos from the past 2 months:

Meanwhile, in 2019 ObsidianAnt, and many in the community, naturally had more enthusiasm about the game: the Beyond season had just finished, production of New Era aka Odyssey was progressing (as confirmed in August 2018), plus some developments protected by NDA would have been known to him (and perhaps other NDA people, like myself, who visited FDev prior to Beyond 3.3's launch).

Unfortunately, after seven months of fixing the flawed launch of Odyssey, the past few months have brought with them a string of negative news about Elite direct from Frontier themselves - he is reporting on that news.

Community confidence in the game's future is understandably low, and the way to rectify that is by Frontier communicating (some of) their developments and plans for the game's future. Which OA will then report on too.
And guess what - for the failed September Update OA had one single video "What went wrong with the September Update?"
Ha, and I remember how much flak he got for even daring to post that too 😂

🤭

REDACTED - I'm thinking maybe this attempt at humor is not translating well, so better safe than sorry!

Are you his manager Stuart 😀 you have to admit the tone and content have changed in the last year. As documented here. As I pointed out on post #3, his videos are now mostly stock footage with doom on top. Where are the videos where he shows game play now? Very few and far between.

I am not sure if you are agreeing with me or not, but thanks I guess? ;)

When the truth is obscured, one can only try to interpolate from what we have and bring it into reasonable proportions. So when a content creator admits that it doesn't particularly bother him, it's remarkable what a huge drama some people make out of it, even referring to the same man. For me, it speaks volumes when OA uses external, old images as a source for one of his videos instead of showing real and fresh video material as he usually does. But the drama must go on, I get that.
Well I don't care about console or VR since I own nether. I still understand why people are frustrated they can't use them properly for Odyssey. If I was a youtuber, I would have talked about both announcement (the limbo for VR and cancellation for consoles).

It's like journalism, you don't cover only what you are affected with. Otherwise it would be really boring news about some dude's kid going to school for the first time and the little pony he drew. Or maybe it's a flower. Or a whale.

The bug was reported, acknowledged a year ago. The material was officially said to be accurate. Then they said they won't fix it. Again, official news. They specifically told that bug that was officially left unfixed for a year.

I mean, what else do you want ? It's literally all official.
