ObsidianAnt's other three (not two) videos from the past 2 months:

Meanwhile, in 2019 ObsidianAnt, and many in the community, naturally had more enthusiasm about the game: the Beyond season had just finished, production of New Era aka Odyssey was progressing (as confirmed in August 2018), plus some developments protected by NDA would have been known to him (and perhaps other NDA people, like myself, who visited FDev prior to Beyond 3.3's launch).

Unfortunately, after seven months of fixing the flawed launch of Odyssey, the past few months have brought with them a string of negative news about Elite direct from Frontier themselves - he is reporting on that news.

Well, i actually watched the first one - even in that one he spends quite some time complaining about performance and bad code while taking time point out that bad code cant be fixed even tho that was not the point of video :)
(weird that he's getting low twenties in concourse while running an rtx2080s - i wasnt getting that not even on my old gtx1660ti laptop and my new-ish rtx3080 laptop is stuck at 60fps in any concourse even when dual-logging 2 EDO instances)

🤷‍♂️

Criticism is good, FDev deserves it, but not in excess. And he's definitely overdoing it.
While i do know the saying that there is no such thing as bad publicity, i'm not sure this is helping Elite or that is worth any praising... the man is making a buck and that's perfectly fine, but as i said, i really dont like his business model.

Community confidence in the game's future is understandably low, and the way to rectify that is by Frontier communicating (some of) their developments and plans for the game's future. Which OA will then report on too.

Well, not quite sure it's that understandably.
It's a game, not the pension fund so i dont really care about it's future. It's not an investment in future.

I play the game for what is is now, not for what it may be in 1 year or it 2 years so i dont really see what this fuss is about with No news, development plans and road maps.
If i want to see that (devplans and roadmaps) i take a look at CIG 😂

So, as i said - i dont care much for "news". I dont play News, i play ED and i will do it for as long i will like it.
And for the moment (after 3000 hours on XB and about the same on my 2 PC accounts combined) i still like the game.

Are you his manager Stuart 😀 you have to admit the tone and content have changed in the last year. As documented here. As I pointed out on post #3, his videos are now mostly stock footage with doom on top. Where are the videos where he shows game play now? Very few and far between.

Firstly, I will start by saying, you will notice I produce far less Elite content than I used to. Elite counts for less than 30% of my content.

Now, regarding my "tone". My tone has changed because Elite has changed. Very simple, and very straight forward concept. :)

When I think something is good, I will say I think it's good. (There's two recent Elite videos in that category).

When I think something is bad. I will say I think it's bad.

If I'm saying "bad", more often than "good", that is because that's how I see it.

My opinion is as equally valid on this as anyone else's. If you don't like it, then a) don't put stock in it, and b) don't click the video.

As Arf said in today's stream, Frontier appreciate content creators (and indeed anyone else) expressing their opinion. Frontier are completely fine with critical videos that are based on opinion. As an additional note, I have been directly told the same by every Elite CM lead since 2014. I totally understand people feel the need to "defend" Frontier from the bad evil content creator. But they really don't need defending.

Also: Is Elite a sinking ship? Quite probably not. Does it feel like a sinking ship. Yes it does.

Feel is the key subjective word.

Finally, am I click baiting for views? Well, there are far more effective ways of doing that. If I wanted to create dedicated clickbait videos, then I wouldn't be using Elite for that. It generates no where near enough views to be worth doing clickbait subjects.

MSFS would be far more effective. 500k to 1 million views per video is easily achievable.

"Clickbait" in thumbnails though? Well go ask Veritasium (or any YouTube Manager) about that subject.

I sincerely hope that you are mortally offended by such outrageous action, positivity in any manner must surely be squashed underfoot!

The knowledge that a carefully crafted positive comment would cause discomfort to some others provides me with great amusement. If only because I have a pretty solid idea who might dislike them.

Edit: Typo
Not offended. It's just cringy to see replies from the usual FDev mouthpieces every time someone says anything mildly critical. Like I said in another thread, FDev could announce they are shutting down the servers tomorrow and you lot would be like "Oh, understandable. That's the right decision." It's just cringy. It's like seeing those Minecraft youtuber stans on twitter.

The term is Pollyanna. ;)

They claim to be "positive", but it's a mistaken belief.

You've missed the important point though in this whole debate.

What was your Easter egg like, and would you consider this to be a trying time?

Ex-girlfriend concept? 😇

But shush, we're working hard to get you 100k views in 4 days, dont jinx it 😂
You sure are mean lately. You keep trying to make OA look bad, but the way you're doing it actually makes you look like the villain (or is it ex-girlfriend) of the story.

Nah, you're reading too much into it... 🤷‍♂️
But wouldnt this make you the meanie for picking* on me? :)

*(the references are different, i explained the first one, i wont do it for the second reference)

The term is Pollyanna. ;)

They claim to be "positive", but it's a mistaken belief.

Or maybe we can call them "Candide", a kind of toxic positivitism that refuses to accept the experience of others, because at some fundamentally broken level, there's a belief that controlling the message is the same as controlling the reality; and that it's the fault of those who point out that things are bad for why you feel bad, and therefore the messenger is to blame.

Elite: Dangerous, like many crowd funded games that are also trading on mid 80s nostalgia for an aging generation always had an element of aggressively "positive" community, because criticizing the game was seen to be criticizing all the other associated dreams and memories of youth associated with the title; and this thread shows why it's a dangerous thing; ObsidianAnt has probably been the best community content creator the game has had, and yet even he isn't "pure" enough now because, when the game has clearly gone off the rails, admitting as much even with his milquetoast criticism is considered now to be an appalling betrayal of... what, exactly? Why is a computer game so holy it can't survive even this mildest of disapproval?

Now ED hasn't sunk to the levels of some communities I've seen; the Shroud of the Avatar community engaged in 7 years of public sexual assault and death threats towards myself and others, because I pointed out the developers there were engaged in far more unethical practices than just releasing Elite: Odyssey. But the kind of ugly witchunting seen in this thread is a very uncomfortable parallel to the kind of cult like belief that leads nowhere decent, and those involved in bewailing the mere existence of critics should feel deeply, deeply ashamed of themselves.

clearly - these are like 8 of his last 10 videos in the last 2 months

Now, maybe we should compare with his videos from 2019?
That year was another not so great year with 4 Interstellar initiatives, but less overall CGs and a really crappy September patch that required, iirc, 3 updates to fix most of the broken issues.

Yet his videos were actually about the game content and not about what FDev does to the game (or doesn't)

Oops, it seems that i can only attach 10 files, but it goes on the same note - 10 videos in a month- october-november 2019,- rather positive and the vast majority about in-game content. But back then it seems OA actually played the game and he liked it.
And guess what - for the failed September Update OA had one single video "What went wrong with the September Update?"
Three of those are videos of direct quotes from Frontier themselves. The others are opinion videos since frontier hasn’t given them (content streamers/us) anything to work with. I guess they could do a deeper dive into FC interiors or new srv. How many different videos could they make for those that would be of interest to anyone?
