While in SOL on Ariel (Moon of Uranus) Surface Mining today I found an occupied escape pod:

I found 6 occupied escape pods from one crash site.

Very common in inhabited Space, just a generic RNG POI that'll spawn eventually.

Only the legal status of the Salvage can vary, so there's an occasional Illegal Salvage Escape Pod in the mix as well.

PS.
There's no such thing as "Surface Mining" on Planets.
What we have is part of the Looting & Crafting System - there's no Mining Missions onto Planets and there's no means to go Commercial Mining (i.e. Gold, Silver etc.) on Planets.

No proper mining to be sure but quite a lot of gold, platinum and much else to be found at the various POIs.

Amusingly I was finding tons of this stuff while looking for escape pods...

So by your definition I go 'mining' when I buy gold from a market ... now we need to raise an issue to get fdev to rename surface Salvage missions -> Mining Missions I guess :)

One option I guess :D

I was meaning that there is no proper mining though there is mat mining, which I guess is 'proper' if limited, but that you can still find gold etc on the surface...

Though heck, I'm sure people talk about mining commodity markets, certainly gets applied to data and so on.. hmm.

Anyway, roll on real mining sometime! Maybe in the big update, I'll add it to the list :D

I always felt bad finding occupied escaped pods when I was mining for mats, but had no cargo space to store them.

I had to leave them there, hoping their emergency systems would keep them alive until they were "found" again.

Maybe they were in suspended animation? Otherwise, RIP, space cowboy.
