Oculus CV Q1 2016 - Finally!

Apparently it's been announced, just read it on IGN, with pre orders being taken later this year. :)

.

IGN reports - "The consumer model is based on the Crescent Bay prototype and builds upon its "presence, immersion, and comfort." It also features an improved tracking system that accommodates seated and standing experiences, according to Oculus VR, along with updated ergonomics and a tweaked industrial design. The company will share more details of its hardware, software, input and unannounced speciality games in the coming weeks, beginning with its technical specifications next week."

LOL, I knew it would happen. I bought a DK2 last week, it arrives today. I knew as soon as I did an announcement about CV1 would come, but going in I realized I'd only get a couple months out of the DK2, I just couldnt resist though lol.

Same. But man, it only get release around the first quarter of 2016, so technically you still have 12 months (give or take) to play with the DK2.

By then there will be several headsets, and comparisons between them to let us choose the best one.

My biggest fear with VR headsets is that games get exclusive support for such or such headset and not the others. I really hope VR support will become universal in games, letting each person choose his favourite brand and model. I don't see myself owning 2 or 3 headsets to be able to play all VR games.

I cant agree more with this!. Sure, hopefully each HMD will have its strengths which games may make the most off, but imo ultimately all games need to be "VR" enabled imo, much like graphics cards are supported in all games now.

and not like they were 20 years ago, with glide only being on 3DFX and many games not supporting anything else.

PS i am a little dissapointed they have stuck with the scuba mask design and not something more like the morpheus... but it wont stop me buying either way.

at least anyone considering buying a DK2 now, will know at least they will get 8-10 months out of it. The reality is, that is the most they were ever going to get out of the dev kit if buying now imo until consumer models launched.

I must admit now, I feel my july 2014 DK2 purchase has been completely justified and then some :)

Yup, just got mine this week as well, and don't even have it working to the point where I can use it yet.(IPD issues) But I don't mind. Even if this announcement came out several weeks ago, I still would have ordered the DK2 now. I'm going to get close to a years worth of good playtime out of it. :)
