oculus love with 1.3.2

Is there going to be much difference between 0.5 and 0.6?

That is the big question isnt it............ I guess we find out in around an hr :)

personally I am still clinging to the hope that it is a typo and it is actually updated to SDK6 (that way i can update my eurotruck sim as apparently it is a total gamechanger in the new SDK)

SDK6 apparently changes how it runs quite a bit. certainly in ETS2 at least it has had (apparently) a massive effect on frame rate... not sure how much is due to the SDK and how much is just the dev improving his code however

incidently i have been running SDK5 without problems since launch.

As in the past it seems that no one tested Oculus properly - we will be lucky if we can play today.

Potential reading too much into it warning

last week FD said they had planned sdk6 to be in 1.3.0 but that it was broken.

they said they were in direct communication with oculus about it.

therefore my HOPE is, its a typo and that it is now built to SDK6.

IF that is the case, and if they have had help from experts over at oculus, they maybe we can hope for something (even more) special.

Don't get too excited. I think they were building against 0.4.xx before, and because nothing had changed too drastically, clients using the 0.5.xx runtime still worked properly. It's eminently possible that they just started building it against the 0.5.xx SDK. You won't see much improvement due to this- more will come from shader caching and some of the culling passes that have been done...

..assuming that you're not staying well clear of the game right now because it's a mess, of course.

nope not staying away at all - indeed I thought 1.3.1 was working very well in VR last night.

A bunch of people are proclaiming that so far it's been running on 0.4.4, and it's just that 0.5 is backwards compatible. Not sure what their sources are but I trust them completely. They have my heart and my mind.

anyone has a download link for the oculus runtime 0.5.1? their site only provides us with a link to the 0.6 beta version. (also if you click the link for 0.5.1 in the history you will be redirected to the latest version GRMBL...)

No it doesn't.

https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/

Set "Platform: PC" and "0.5.0.1-beta" - or if you're feeling lazy, go to:

https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/pc/0.5.0.1-beta/Oculus_SDK_for_Windows/

Most people have been running 0.5.0.1 for ED more or less since it came out, as it works fine, despite the game apparently being built against 0.4.x- there aren't massive external changes between the two. Do not install 0.6.x, as ED doesn't support it properly yet.

I hope that helps.

Just done v5

works ok for me in the training missions (gave solar fluke the beating of his life) no settings changed. Asks you to uninstall previous runtime first.

I've been on 0.5.0.1 since it came out, ED worked with no difference that I could detect. If they are truly updating to 0.5 now then I expect we won't see any real changes. It's probably behind-the-scenes stuff that will allow them to progress to 0.6 in the future.

My wild ass guess is that Oculus have requested FDev standardise on 0.5.x in order to facilitate working together in sorting out any issues with moving to 0.6. Quite common to look for this common denominator prior to proceeding with any troubleshooting.

That's my thinking too. Along with rewriting the graphics to allow full HUD colour mods.
