Oculus pre order information

What about Windows 10? I dont have 7 anymore...

regarding release date: they already anouced it is q1 2016 - which means latest in stores on the 31st of march... preorder most likely before that!

Really an official Statement regarding proper CV1 Support is needed cause I want to preorder in less than 24 hours!!!!

Very disappointing to read this. Cmon Frontier VR is made for a game like Elite.
Take the time, give us proper support on the rift.
Otherwise I will have to wait for the Vive, and that is being developed on valve time so that could still be more then a year away. Would really like to upgrade from the dk2 sooner rather then later.

Oculus has released the v1.0 SDK to select developers. Has Frontier received v1.0, or are you still waiting? In other words, are you still evaluating it, or have you not even been able to start that evaluation?

you can use runtime 0.8 now dude if you install the game through steam recomended but not required. Then go to tools in steam download steam vr beta then you need to make a custom resolution of 1920x1080 at 75hz in nvidia control pannel and apply it, as for some reason steam vr will detect your monitors 60hz if you dont. Then start steam vr then launch the game form in steam and it will give an option to launch the game in steam VR, Once loaded go to graphics settings in game and set your custom res and also make sure to set it to 75hz in settings as well then set 3D to hmd headphones or speakers. Bobs your uncle it works in 0.8 permitting you can overclock your monitor to 75hz.

Hey everyone,

With the news that Oculus are starting pre order of their consumer version tomorrow, I wanted to just make a quick post to confirm that we are still actively working with Oculus but currently the only SDK we are able to officially support is 0.6.

We wanted to make sure you had as much up to date information as possible and will let you know as soon as we have any more information.

Fly safe, Commanders!

It's good to have an update but this is really just an update about that nothing has changed since the last update.

I think you need to clarify the reason why you haven't solved this yet. You are telling us you want to solve it. We are left to guessing and the risk of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt is big.

Are you:

* Not having the right resources (people, CV1 hardware)
* Not having the know-how (none of the developers knows how to do it)
* Painted yourself into a corner with how the engine is constructed (my guess)
* Policy (other more important things first)
* Exclusive deals (that you are not permitted to reveal)
* Not gotten around to do it yet

We will fill in the gaps in information with our own imagination and that might lead to bad press eventually.

EDIT: Just caring about my favourite hobby, flying spaceships in VR.

Frontier, please give the community more information about this. VR is something that was always advertised/promised, and it's starting to seem like you may not support it! ED even had videos with Oculus DK1/DK2 back in the day!

For those who are disappointed, unless I missed it, we have no reason to believe the actual CV1 release date is near.

This is CV1 pre-order, which is basically them collecting info that will help them determine how many to produce.

In this day and age, pre-order doesn't even mean the product ships in 12 months necessarily. I have yet to personally see anything about when the product will actually ship, or even a hint, maybe tomorrow will have something. Even a statement that says when the product is estimated to ship means nothing. The only solid thing is when people start getting product shipping notifications.

I am just as excited as the next guy or girl about the CV1, but I suspect we're still months away from CV1.

The announcement of CV1 preorders came unexpectedly, otherwise Frontier really had no reason to start hammering out later support to handle for the CV1. This is them kindly reminding us of that reality.

What!? It was obvious that the preorders would be near CES since CV1 is released on Q1. Also, it seems that they will probably start shipping on February since people that kickstarted with a tier that had the DK1 need to fill a survey before the 1st of February to get their free CV1.

Plus, lets not forget that developers in contact with Oculus already have the SDK 1.0 since late December.

So yeah, it's disappointing that FD still doesn't have an update for when they will support the SDK 1.0.

Very disappointing FDEV. It would be really nice if we could actually get a straight answer as to what exactly the hold up is. :(

Palmer lucky said a few months back he wanted it to be a matter of weeks not months going from pre order to our hands. I will probably still buy the rift. For what games I play it seems a better fit for me than the vive but I do think frontiers lack of visible progress worrying.

E:D what are you telling us ?

That you are working on a solution to allow us to use CV1. or are you saying that when CV1 launches you will not support it as you will only support 0.6 SDK going forward

We need confirmation that you are looking to provide support for SDK 1.0 especially knowing that Direct Mode is the way forward and any fudges we are using are soon to disappear.

If Oculus will not be compatible going forward I will be very disappointed and it removes my desire to continue to play and support E:D :-(

I hope I am wrong

E:D please provide some clarity - even if it is we are actively working on SDK 1.0 - and expect it to be ready by the Summer etc...

TBH I thought we and FD were waiting for SDK v1 to be released and then you will update ED to run.
Since v1 has been made available to select developers FD either doesn't have it or there is another issue.

We have waited months for the SDK v1 to be ready and now it's available there's still no end in sight?

What is everyone talking about? Most of these posts are complaining that FD is not supporting Oculus Rift. Did you guys not read the OP???!?
This post was started to tell you they are actively working on it!!!!

I understand that you guys think that it should be "easy" and that they should have got it working by now. But I think it's been made clear that the incompatibility was introduced by a fundamental change that Oculus implemented.

I don't think it's as simple as FD stopped caring.

They would be crazy not to include Frontier as a select developer. Every other article on VR blogs mention Elite Dangerous as an excellent example of how great VR can be if devs do it right.

Given that, I'd imagine FDev have the SDK v1 but are still evaluating the changes and trying to prioritize its implementation with other development goals. Further, I'd think a big part of this prioritization will have to rely on the release date of CV1, which they may or may not know.

Whatever the case, why don't we all give this one a little time before jumping the gun and lambasting FDev for inaction on something they might not be able to act or speak on just yet.

How about FDev fix the major game bugs first rather than supporting yet new hardware that itself will likely be buggy at launch......

Take your time FD in case you didn't notice from all the Horizons complaints - it's not like any of the people in the thread likely have a computer that can actually support VR. Then I can't wait for all the complaints - "COME ON FD - WHY DOESN'T YOUR GAME WORK ON MY CRAPPY COMPUTER?!?!?!"

:) :) :)

But seriously have fun all of you early adopters working out the bugs for people like me (seriously thanks you crazy folks that will plop down ~> $500 USD for this at launch) - I figure maybe I'll get one after a price drop or two.

Everyone knew that that the preorders where happening right after new years and that there would be a warning before they opened up. Everyone knew that the CV1 was in full production 4 months ago. Everyone knew that they were shipping the CV1 and SDK 1 to DEV's that had to put finishing touches on their game. By everyone I mean people who live and die for VR. So the ED DEV team should of had a CV1 by now and been on top of this at jump. Like many are saying in here, it seems like Vive got their claws into ED. Maybe to swing back at the Eve jab Oculus threw at them. -peace

Yup, and that is highly speculative and not based in any facts.

We literally have no idea what is going on in the background...who knows what has gone back and forth between FD and Oculus.

Since CV1 can be ordered tomorrow  and the demand may be enormous, I want to order right away to have the shortest shipping time possible. With Elite being the only thing I use the Rift for (so far) the thought of ordering, having it first, and then NOT working is making me very anxious. :(

On the other hand, it's just a game and some hardware and the world will not end. But it probably will anyway. ;)
