Oculus Rift & Windows 10 Thread

I used this method

https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3paivl/rtu_package_to_switch_between_oculus_07_and_05/

very easy to follow and works on a clean win 10 install

But before I started I downloaded 0.8 from the Oculus site and installed that first, then followed the switcher instructions

Edit:

I should of stated the simple instructions

Install runtime 0.8 for win 10

1: Download the switch from MEGA
2: Extract the ZIP file to where you keep your Oculus stuff for safe keeping.
3: Copy the "Oculus_500" folder and set the copy into C:\Program Files (x86)
4: Copy the LibOVRRT64_0_5.dll file and paste it into C:\Windows\System32
5: Copy the other LibOVRRT64_0_5.dll file and paste it into C:\Windows\SysWOW64
6: Right click the SDK05 file and run as administrator.

Hi Karnath

As I've just bought a DK2 and still run W7, will this switch work for me?

Thanks!

maybe it actually works for someone. if you had coincidentally a special machineconfiguration and,
of course, additionally a clean win10 install.

well, i would like to have it on my machine, with my win10 installation.
(i tryd with registrycleaning, all combinations of nvidiadrivers and sdks, and so on:
nothing, only a touch of decent frustration ;))

my question:
are there clever guys out there, which have the solution? or another solution,
or at least an idea what might could possibly work??

(it seems to me, the mainproblem is, win 10 cant see the dk2 as a second monitor,
after switching to .5sdk i could activate the hmd in extended mode, after marking it
in the nvidia control panel, but this was the end of the fahnenstange(flagpole))

or is the only solution to wait (infinitely unimaginably long) for cv1?
it seems so.

greetings
and
dont worry, be happy

Install SteamVR, 0.8 SDK, and run Elite. It works without needing a switcher now.

sadly not as smoothly as with 0.5

EDIT: I just tried it again, and SteamVR seems to behave a lot nicer with 0.8 now than it did the last time I tried. The refresh rate is fine no matter the main monitor's resolution and apart from some very weird black flickering every couple of seconds it works like a charm. I stand corrected.

EDIT2: forget it. it worked completely fine but with weird flickering, so I tried changing stuff like V-Sync and even Frame LImiter, and it just got worse. So I exited to the desktop and got back into E : D with SteamVR/0.8 and the lag was suddenly aweful again. So it CAN work fine, but whether it does seems to be quite random. I switched to 0.5 and buttery framerate right out of the box along with the possibility to choose the nVidia natiive DSR resolution.

nice tip, thanks
it would be more nice if you hadnt to buy the game on steam, wouldnt it? ;)

Fortunately, you don't need to buy the game on steam. You just need steamvr installed and running. Or you can add your existing ED to stream using the code frontier gives you on the account screen.

In the Frontier store , you can click on partner keys and obtain a key for use with Steam if you already own Elite Dangerous for the PC. The only down side is that you have to re-download the game again.

How do you get ED run on 0.5 run in Windows 10? I have the switch installed and i can run the 0.5 runtime and DK2 is recognized but when i run ED it will be stereoscopic view on monitor but on DK2 it will stay on desktop with rotated view. I doesn't matter what i choose in win display settings, ED will not recognize Rift. I can play with 0.8 runtime but i want to try 0.5 to check if it has better performance
Radeon Fury, Crimson 16.1
FX 8320
Windows 10 64bit

Rotate rift image to right angle in win10 display settings. It shows as secondary display. Then in game graphic settings select secondary display.

Hi all, i have an issue with Elite on my Rift.

Elite work perfectly on my Rift CV1 on Windows 10 Pro, but now i can't launch the game in normal mode (without VR, simply on my screen) anymore !
Even if i close the Oculus Home app, anytime i launch the game it start in VR mode, which is verry annoying in summer when the weather is verry warm, or if i just want to take some screenshots.

So, is anyone have the same issue ? And know how to solve it plz ? Don't know if it hase allready posted but i can't find that.

PS: Please excuse my poor English writing.

I am new to the rift and find I can only play for an hour or so and then need to give my eyes a break. So I would like to go back and play on my 2d screen for a while.
But I also can't get ED to start without the oculus sw starting up as well, plus I cant get the nav and functions panes to appear either.
And yes, I have unplugged the rift, set the 3d option off, and set the "look at" options to nothing.

So what to do?

Assign them to keys? Assign "headlook mode" to a key so you can look around?

Found it. The ENABLE UI CAMERA LOCK ON setting needs to be ON.
I had taken the help systems advice and switched it OFF for the oculus, even though it goes on to say it has no effect when using HMD !

Also, I unplugged both the Rift's usb3 connections, as well as the hdmi, and now the Oculus SW doesn't start up either.

You can start up Elite, hold up the rift and place your thumb over the sensor inside at the top and point it so that you can see the graphics options. From there you can turn off HMD.

A much easier way is to use the Elite:Dangerous profiler. Take a look at this thread for details:
