Wrong, as i already said, before Gamma i was running @4K with SLI, please read posts properly before commenting.
See here i quote myself " was running @ 4K using DSR before Gamma, now if i enable DSR @ 4k with SLI i get bad frame stuttering " and if you read some other posts in the VR forum including some in this thread even, you will see that other people have the same issue now, nothing to do with 4096K video RAM which is actually plenty. People running 2 970s in SLI where able to use Dynamic scale reduction ( DSR ) to get 4K on a 1920*1080 monitor on the rift as i said before Gamma......
Eh? My 980 is doing pretty much the same as freehotdawgs too. The "no frame drops" is different, but it's not down to horsepower as the GPU is never struggling for breath, it's something to do with the game itself. I can be sitting in a scene where the fps is 75 (of course) and the GPU is 30% and I still drop a few frames every now and again for some reason - doesn't happen in other games and demos. Also I get 75fps in stations and the GPU tops out at about 90%.
I've run E: D on my monitor at 4K downscaled to 1440p on my single 980. Ran pretty well, some dips to 50fps when in stations etc.. but ran at 70fps if I remember rightly in space.
I can run E: D at 4K on the DK2 but when I say "run" I mean it works OK (better than expected TBH), too juddery in stations to play like that though.
Happy to be proven wrong, maybe Gamma 2.0 improved things enough so this no longer happens, didn't strap into VR last night (will tonight though).
Pics or it didn't happen dude.
It's very easy to say that you everything is hunky dory diddly ory when in reality it's not quite true.
My own experience of a single 980 is that it is the best single card for E: D on the DK2 at the moment but to claim you can run it maxed out at 75fps all the time even when you are in the entrance of a station (biggest FPS drop I experienced) or parked up in a station seems a bit too good to be true.
It's close to 75fps and it might kinda look like 75fps if you ignore the minor judder but it's not really 75fps.

Afterburner graph ticks along at 75fps (albeit with the "random" frame drops I get everywhere), I have it running on a second monitor... besides which, I'd notice if it wasn't!
My 980 is overclocked to 1500-odd boost... if I ran it at stock speeds it would not manage, I will admit that... because I tried it!![]()
Oh I should mention that I'm talking about running in Multiplayer rather than SP or a tutorial. I get very different results in a tutorial for some reason.

"Whether you say it was running fine is irrelevant" WHAT ??????? how is the fact that it WAS running fine before Gamma irrelevent ????????? it is not irrelevant at all, it proves that there is no Vram issue at my end, if something has changed with the game with Gamma it has nothing to do with my vid memory, there is obviiously a technical change at EDs end, what do you not understand about that ?????Whether you say it was running fine is irrelevant, the symptoms you have mentioned indicate VRAM limitations and to compliment that 4K resolution will do that, no need to get all emotional with the tone!
Finally got my rig set up and began "testing"...
Haven't crunched any numbers yet because the testing was more like playing but my initial impressions are very positive...
Rig:
Asus rampage V x99 motherboard (water cooled)
CPU: 5960x heavily oc'd
RAM: 16 GB
GPU's: 2x GTX 980's in SLI
DK2
So the first thing I tried was setting everything to max... No problem. The SLI config wasnt causing any latency at all.
Next I applied DSR and was able to get as high as x3... So not quite 4k, but things were more than clear enough to read.
The only number I got during my two hour session was the CPU temp sitting pretty at 38c
I'll test actual frame rates and GPU workloads later, but the entire session was as smooth and clear as I'd hoped it would be... Except for the Galaxy map, which needed to be set back down to low.
Obviously the recent update of the SDK and optimisations are helping here, but the rumours of SLI not playing nicely seem to be greatly exaggerated.
