Oculus Rifts Running Maxed Settings, please add your hardware here

It's just a habit I got into when using the rift on my gaming laptop... Monitor was 60hz... Disabling it just made things run a lot smoother. That was a while back but I set the NVIDIA profile for single monitor performance as well... I figure if I'm not using it then it can't get it in the way if it is turned off! :)
May I ask you how do you disable your monitor?
I have a projector (60hz) as primary and rift as secondary. When I launch the game it looks fine on the rift. But as soon as I turn of the projector, the image in the rift rotates 90 degrees.

Yeah, please share how you guys are disabling your monitors. Are you making the Rift your primary monitor? Do you launch the game from the Rift? How do you get around Windows?

How to disable your monitor,

In NVIdia set up multiple displays uncheck the monitor option... Then everytime you switch the rift on the monitor goes off. When you switch the rift off, the monitor comes back on.

Also in your NVIDIA 3D settings set to single display performance... Just be careful... Things are so smooth and clear now I was too busy looking out of my window to notice Id run out of fuel! At least I can console myself that those last few minutes of consciousness were spent in 4k at 75 fps! ;)

Interesting. When you run @ 2560x1440 with the 970 SLIs, you get no flickering of any kind, and you're definitely running in SLI mode?

I ask as I have a i7-2600k, 4.6 ghz - GTX970SLI - can do 2560x1440 on the rift with 1 card, but SLI i get bad flickering.. i've tried a new OS install, different drivers, etc etc..

(You might try some OC on those 970's -- i'm running @ 1.5 ghz on GPU and 8 ghz on RAM in SLI mode, although the flickering also occurs at stock..)

I can't run it maxxed out and achieve 75FPS all the time. The best I can achieve is medium high (I'll edit this later for specifics, once I'm on my gaming rig) and even then I get some FPS drops in the high detail (luxury) stations. I run at 2560 x 1440 downsampled, extended mode.

i7 4790K (4 Ghz, 4.4 Ghz boosted)
ROG Maximus Ranger VII Motherboard
32 GB Kingston HyperX 1600 Mhz RAM
120 GB Samsung Evo 840 SSD OS Drive (optimised and in "Rapid" mode)
1TB Samsung Evo 840 SSD Media Drive
2 x GTX 970 (1050Mhz) Sli

If I run at standard 1920 x 1080 I don't see any FPS drops (stuttering is a different issue and game based as far as I'm concerned), I can run on High settings (for everywhere I've been anyway) if I don't downsample.

:)Thanks for your answer in the PM, i have now disabled my monitor when the rift is on, one less thing for the GPUs to do whilst the rift is on.

Update, this tip fixed it for me, i am now back running at 4K DSR on my DK2 with no frame flicker at all, i even have SMAA turned on as well and the text is really easy and clear to read now on the panels etc but i will probably turn off SMAA now i am at 4K, i would never have thought that a simpe thing like disabling my monitor when i turn on the DK2 would have such a dramtic effect on the game when its running, i mean after all, the monitor is only displaying the desktop whilst ingame on the DK2 so its not as if the cards are having to display the game twice at the same time.

Thank you SlackR for the tip, you have made me happy and i dont get much of that these days due to my circumstances :)

Are you running in direct mode? Direct mode flickers horribly in SLI, extended mode works just fine, though.

I am running in extended mode, but i had not configured to turn off my monitor as soon as i turned on the rift, it was this that was causing my frame flicker with SLI at 4K DSR on the rift.

So, uncheck the box next to the extra monitor? I run dual monitors, plus the Rift. Should I just uncheck my 2nd monitor, or do you recommend unchecking both and trying to do everything with the Rift?

Make sure you have the Rift plugged in when you are on the muliple displays screen in NVIDIA settings. Then uncheck everything except the rift and save. All of your monitors will go off except the rift. But when you turn the rift off, the other monitors will come back on. Just make sure you press play on ED using the Rift or it will mess with your res settings :)

Super sampled with FXAA (I think it looks best) I get steady FPS most of the time, but, like many have mentioned, inside stations i get a lot of stuttering if I move my head too quickly. Also the frame rate can drop to 60 in stations if there's a lot going on. There is always some ghosting, but it's worse in stations as well.

Nothing that really hinders anything. It doesn't break the immersion too much or make me sick. I was frustrated by the ghosting at first, but I hardly notice it now.

All-in-All E: D is the most well-done "tech demo" for the Rift that I have tried.

Has anyone compared the benefits of one 980 vs 2 x 980 in SLI? I seem to remembers someone posting a month or so back that the benefits were negligible in ED?
The reason I am asking is that I am considering testing super sampling again combined with disabling the monitor, but currently only have one 980. Not sure whether it is worth the trouble - is it likely to succeed?

im happy to test this over the next few days but I remember reading that the best results were when the second card was physically removed. I would say go for it if you are aable to supersample and still hit 75fps in stations. If you can then dont bother :)

When I play with the rift I disable the monitor ...

Thanks for that tip SlackR.

Supersampling, FD's work on improving the game for VR, and now that tip about switching off the monitor, it is all really making the Rift look fantastic :D

I'm beginning to wonder about all those people who said that the DK2 was too blurry. Would they still say it's too blurry if they could try now it after all this honing?

I'll still be getting a CV1. The focusing sweet-spot for the DK2 is still a pain to get right. But the wait for one just isn't as bothersome anymore.

Am I interpreting you correctly in that there is a chance that it is possible to run ED supersampled at high settings with a single 980, and disabling the second monitor is what makes all the difference? If so I may indeed test this later today and report back. :)

EDIT: I should add also that I will add a second 980 instantly if someone can positively verify that 2 x 980 in SLI will run ED without increased latency or judder? All reports I have read this far indicate that SLI and the Rift does not mix well at this point?

Latency almost doubles with SLI as long alternate frame rendering is used. It will run at 75 fps but feel all wrong at the same time. This wont change until nvidia and amd change the multi gpu rendering method.

I am running in SLI and it is flawless

I tested at work with 2xTitans, disabling one impacted performance noticeably. I did not remove the card. I have run on 2xTitan, 2x780 and a single 970. There is no "extra latency" in SLI.. at least it is not noticeable in game. The 970 ran fine but not as well as 2x780s so SLI definitely works and makes a positive impact on the game.

I ran last night. This is my first time playing Gamma 2 and I was on latest as of 12-12-14. I did the disable monitor trick talked about a few posts back and am getting MUCH MUCH better performance! I'm guessing it's a combination of disabling the monitor and improvements with ED and the 4.4 drivers but boy what a difference. Someone should make a new post recommending that disable monitor trick so it gets more exposure.

Are you using direct or extended when doing this? Thanks
