Oculus video capturing and editing

Hello CMDRs ,

is a few days that i'm trying to create a simple oculus video with an acceptable definition.
someone of you have experience in this ?

currenty using :
- bandicam as video capturer , file in .mp4 , codec H264, without any compression , 1080p.
- THIS script to UNwrap the video , making it single-eye view 720p
- sony vegas for editing

the result is pretty bad, can't read the texts of the GUI very well , i'm aiming to reach this result : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djy83O0nfds

Hi there,

I use OBS to capture video from the auxiliary screen, like so: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=43396&page=6&p=1500675&viewfull=1#post1500675

Mind you that capturing 720p or 1080p means you need to re scale the auxiliary window appropriately and then re configure OBS settings accordingly. All the details in my post above.

I am sure there are other ways around, that is the one that works best for me.

but how do you edit files ?
i extracted them and remuxed in mp4 for vegas but keeps crashing .... what software are you using ?

i use youtube to edit the video

this video i made uses OBS and the aux screen as Viajero suggests,
with some saturation affect on my webcam to try and make it look like i have the spaceships dash board reflection on my face.

my files are to big to be edited in youtube. 50min of gameplay generate a 5+gb mp4.
every video editing program that i tryed crash.
don't know how you do that...

If all the video editing progs are crashing it means there is an issue with your file. You shouldn't need to remux anything, just let OBS save as a .mp4 file.

try ffmpeg to split your mp4 into smaller segments that are more workable sizes for your editing program.
besides, no one will watch 50 mins of video unless its absolutely captivating.

i know , in fact i would like to make it 3-5 min log.... but i cannot work on it !
i ll try to capture directly in mp4

Looks ok to me. Could use some better settings. For example, Catpain Kirk gave me the following settings for OBS (which is free and easy):

Hi drkaii, I use x264 encoding, quality 10, max bitrate 1000, user defined buffer size set to Zero. Under advanced settings, I use fasdt x264 Setting, encoding profile high, keyframe intervall 0, use CFR and user defined settings checked with a user defined setting of cfr=8 not encoded in full range and allowing for 61-120 fps.

I copied all his settings except I use NVIDIA NVENC instead of x264 and I set the Max Bitrate to 10,000 and I get videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc3RAfhzyzs

It's brighter and clearer than yours, comes across as less "thick". My resolution for the external window is 1280x1440, and I take the second bottom fifth of the window in 1280x720. You seem to have it right at the bottom and all we really see is the cockpit.

Your videos will be very small, and they will not lose any noticable quality.

I also use FLVJoiner to join the files, then Free Video Editor to cut out the crap and then Avidemux to perform further editing. If you want to change the volume in Free Video Editor, make sure you set it to encode to mkv, as that is the most lossless variant. For avidemux, you'll also want to use the MKV Muxer, and make sure you set your outputs to x264 and AAC (lav). You should end up with a very lossless edit.

If you want it simpler, get Adobe Premier, although it ain't cheap. It's amazing for video editing.

i know that the video is a bit cutted, i'm trying with another selection of the screen.
soon i will upload new tests.

btw i'm using bandicam 'cos i can have a raw avi file instead of an mp4 - flv compressed that result impossible to edit, don't know why.
maybe i should try with your settings in OBS

I'm going to experiment with FLVExtract as recommended by OBS devs https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-convert-flvs-to-mp4-fast-without-re-encoding.78/

Hopefully it will make things more editable.
