Odd Planet Discovery Question?

I am at present in the Phraa Flyuae system somewhere between SagX and Colonia. Earlier this evening I was scanning one of the surrounding systems and got a first discovery affirmation. After my initial scanning I found there were 14 planets in this system. After the secondary scanning I found that I had 3 planets P6,7&8 which were terra formable and worth scanning close up. When I scanned them I found that they had already been discovered by a Cmdr Regue9 I think it was. Anyway I checked the system map and the only planets scanned were in fact P6,7&8, none of the others had been scanned at all as it was for the system So if the system was undiscovered until then, how come the three mentioned were discovered at all?.

If the primary star was too far from the entry point, it wouldn't automatically trigger the system first for that commander.

Before Elite Dangerous 3.3, the rules for discoveries worked slightly differently, and just getting a "first discovery" tag was a little more time-consuming and a lot shorter range (not quite as slow as mapping them, but a lot closer to that than to the FSS)

So a lot of systems visited before then and not since, you'll find that the high-value planets are tagged, but the rest aren't, because it wasn't really efficient to do so.

And similarly, in those days, the basic proximity scan you got wouldn't tag them, whereas now it does ... and with most stars not being worth all that much, a lot of people never bothered actually tagging them if they were in a hurry.

Yeah early on, you had to stop, turn and point at the star to get the discovery tag, stars aren't worth much compared to terraformable planets so early explorers doing exploration for credits would rarely stop and point at the stars but head straight out to the valuable planets then jump on to their next targets in the route, so there are a lot of visited star systems out there with no first discovery tag.

ED Astrometrics actually has a spreadsheet that lists visited star systems that don't have main star scans from EDSM/Spansh. If you were interested in helping clear that up you could grab it and work through them, make sure to get a decent program for opening spreadsheets though, Excel won't work, it only allow 1m rows and there's 20m rows in the file, use something like Notepad++ to open it.
