Odyssey Going Forwards

Thanks for the update. Very much appreciated and the right move. PS4 players can then get a solid release as well knowing that whilst they wait a little longer they have a right game.
I am enjoying Odyssey very much but agree there needs to be better content for the players so looking forward to the future.

I'll echo my fellow consolers and say that fixing odyssey before console launch is a good move, none of us were expecting the autumn release.
my only concern now is this:

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

to me it suggests that it comes before a console launch of odyssey and that wont be taken so well
There is a limit to how long you can freeze a storyline, at some point I will have to shoot a thargoid in the head...

As a console player I understand why these steps have been taken, I'd rather a working game than a broken one but as you work on making things perfect for the PC player base I would strongly recommend working on something for the the console players before you lose them all, some new ships or SRV's maybe even just space legs(no station interiors or shooting) something is better than a kick in the knackers

If it's the same quality as Shared mission, or connecting On-Foot gameplay to Power Play and more BGS, than you won't miss much.
It's not like they can go and add Thargoids, it will just mess up their attempts to improve Odyssey performance.

Thank you David! Understanding how discouraging it must be to the Console Commanders I have to admit, that it does make the most sense in the current situation/state of the game (the milk is on the floor - no need to talk about reasons).

Much appreciated as I said before, some of us still live the dream you shared around 2014. Hence, expectations may look "optically" high and unreasonable, but all these years we wanted to believe in this type of ED future.
The expectation of good performance, stability, and passion for details do not seem unreasonable, and I am glad to see that you and your team are committed to addressing those.

And yet one more thing, it is much appreciated that the message of this magnitude comes from the "highest level" and probably not only by the community but also by your own team. Especially CMs (but not exclusively only them) have been clearly under siege ever since EDO release.

I think the message apart from expected transparency delivers also a reasonable balance of positives vs negatives

Thank you again

But last week it was still planned for autumn, today they made the decision to change lnans and announced it, and as soon as they are confident of a new date for console they"ll let you know.

You can't demand them to keep you informed and then complain when they do. It may be bad news, but that is part of the nature of being informed.

If you think a multi million pound company made that decision today and posted about it immediately on their forums then I don’t know what to say to you. They get away with stuff like this because paying customers keep making excuses for them.

Greetings Commanders.

With the release of Update 5 on 1st July plus a few smaller server updates since, and Update 6 currently in development, I wanted to take a moment of your time to talk about the next steps for Elite Dangerous.

We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey. The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.

As you may remember in our recent development article, the significant amount of updates and development effort that has been done to fix and improve issues since the launch of Odyssey has meant work on our console release has not progressed as quickly as we had hoped. What’s more, we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.

With those things in mind, we have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more. We know that the work that we do to improve players’ experiences of Elite Dangerous Odyssey on PC will benefit other platforms in the future, but the dates and details of the console platforms are going to change. We do not want to rush into confirming any dates or changes this has on our console release, as we must remain fully focused on the core Elite experience. Only when we feel that the foundation of the PC release is solid, will we be able to re-lay our console roadmap on top.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right, before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

We will continue to give open monthly development updates where we discuss WIP content, challenges, the issue tracker and more. We know that the previous levels of detail for the roadmap and developer update have not met expectations, but we are grateful for your patience while we shift and adjust plans, in the face of such clear feedback.

Please remember that our team here at Frontier are working hard to support the game and our community. Behind every bug fix, design decision and community post is a person who cares a lot about giving our players best possible experience. I would ask that everyone remains calm and respectful when sharing their thoughts and feedback.

We all have the same goal and we will get there, together. Please bear with us.

o7 Commanders.

Thank you CMDR Braben,

I've been with you since '84 and don't plan to jump ship any time soon. It is good to know that you still have the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

I hope that those who have less stalwart outlooks will manage to remain calm and optimistic as we plot our course through regions, as yet, uncharted.

The one thing that comes to mind with delaying the console release is that the longer it's delayed, the more "last gen" the XBox and PS4 become. Right now there is still an overlap between PS4 and PS5, but that will change as the PS5 becomes the predominant console in people's homes (or new XBox). I'm already seeing lots of new titles that are PS5 only, and most all the new titles at least support a PS5 native version. I love my PS4, but I can't deny that it's old tech now.

So pc users may get new content whilst us console peasants just have to sit back and watch pretty YouTube videos about what we are missing out on.
Will console players also get new content too or will everything already have been discovered and enjoyed by pc players by the time we get around to console release...... which will now be when?

Great plan guys 👍
I think you're missing the point. Yes, you're going to have to wait but at least you are less likely to have all the problems we PC'ers have been getting. Failing that, if you don't want to wait and you wand a better system...buy a PC?! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Only joking.

don't worry, the release of new content will most likely be frozen until the console version is released.
i.e. for example, you won't miss the development of the story with targoidam won't happen until the console release.
maybe the pc players will be fed little plot fillers (like the corporations war in the federation and the marlinists in the empire).
or the story will simply be frozen for a year and a half as it was before odyssey.
Either way, you have nothing to worry about.

Well, I’m pleased for the PC community but us console players have absolutely nothing to look forward to with elite.
We’ve been expecting this yet still recently told we are still getting it on time.
mom expecting this won’t now actually be released on PS4.
Ive always said it will never be released on last gen consoles and I'm sure frontier have known this for a while but won't tell us because a lot of console players either don't want or just can't afford the next gen ones and would walk from the game but they want to keep numbers up

It reminds me of the baffling decision by CCP to make DUST 514 a PS3 exclusive post PS4 launch. That always confused me and to me, sealed the fate of DUST even before it launched.

And just like that... a little confidence restored. Now don't waste it!

and fix the on foot VR.. ;)... but seriously fix the on foot VR.

It’s reassuring to have coming from the top the commitment both to getting Odyssey where it needs to be first, and to expanding on the content, so thank you for that.

For myself, I will continue to play Odyssey exclusively from the seat of my cockpit due to the missing VR support for on-foot play. I’ve been lucky enough to get decent enough performance, so I’m in a position to do so. Hopefully the coming updates will result in the same for everyone else.

Were I a console player I’d be disappointed, but also understanding, and willing to wait for Odyssey as it should have been.

What I’m most interested in learning however is the specifics of what additional content is being considered for the short term, as well as the longer term vision for expansion of the game. No dates or timelines or any sort of estimate is needed or even advisable at this stage, and talking about future design prospects is not going to delay the important performance and bug fixing going on in the meantime. I think it would do a lot to further reassure players, and so I do hope the monthly development updates will feature that sort of potential content.
