Odyssey Progress (2)

Get the basics right - at least make the menus (which are what we see most of in the game beyond flying !) more "usable" than "so bad I'm quitting the game forever, regardless of how lovely the rest might look"

I don't know if you are ever going to read this Mr Braben, but I'm going to lay this out for you as I now see things with this game.

Odyssey is weak. We are getting conflicting information from you many years ago making promises that we would be able to space walk and be able to walk around the interiors of our ships. This is the reason why we invested, paid for and injected money in to your game. Our hard earned money.

I remember back to the Christmas In 1993 when I ha a copy of Frontier:Elite. I remember the time I spent fantasizing about the world you created and how much I wanted it to all come real. This isnt just your pet project, its all of ours, and thats why we are here.

Odyssey is not a giant step for the player, its a giant grind fest that needs way more work than Frontier Development seem to be communicating plans with us for the moment. That roadmap has the person who posted it saying over and over, "Performance Updates and Ui updates". Means nothing to me. The UI was fine for the last 6 years, and it would have been fine for the next 6. I was trying to change some slots around yesterday, and I got so turned around in the Ship Optional internal slots I basically just rebought what I was missing instead of swapping around the modules I already had installed.

Combat on foot is weak. Using a whole clip to basically kill someone is not fun. Laser weapons not touching health bars, Plasma weapons in MHO being absolutely trash. The game needs substantial amounts of work, and I'm not hearing or seeing any of this coming from Frontier or yourself.

Going back to Frontier, that game currently has way more things and side projects that we can partake in. Planetary Mining, Naval missions for the power factions, more ships (although some of them usless, granted) that fill the systems out in a way that that make it feel lived in (the lifter for example). I understand that some of these things would be difficulty implement in what is a MMO, but the game needs to have new things for the players to be able work for. Lets us be able to walk around our ships, and live the fantasy of being a Commander. Allow us to customize our cabin and personal space with rare relics, posters of our favorite Empress.

Give us some hope that we may be able to set up our own mining outposts on worlds well outside of the bubble that we can call our own, and start colonizing away from the bubble. Allow us to strike military targets and start conflicts.

I got rid of my console Xbox CMDR and bought a PC. I lost everything I had on that console Just to be able to play Elite. I knew all that money I spent, all those limited Skins I had, all of the MONEY i have spent was going to be gone. But I didn't complain. I haven't Complained about the grind of getting all the engineers unlocked again, But after seeing that road map yesterday, I wondering if I should have just left the game to die on my Xbox.

I have been with this series since 1984. Elite on the spectrum, Frontier on the Atari St. I'm pushing 40 this year. The series of games hasn't just been your vision its our vision. Everyone here on the forums believes in this game and the direction you push the series, and whilst we all want more, and whilst we all seem demanding, its because we believe in your vision of the frontier of space.

Dear David. I believe I am part of the silent majority, and I do not post here very often, but here goes. I have been playing Elite in various forms since 1984 (I am 65). I would like to thank you for your dedication to this project of which I feel a part of. I am enjoying Odyssey, no withstanding the stability issues at the beginning. The game seems more stable now with the latest update. I agree with others that the UI needs sorting, but I am really enjoying the new planetary tech. I have been out to Barnard's Loop and found amazing planets with wonderful plains, mountain ridges, canyons, and atmosphere colours. The new planetary tech is, in my opinion, much more realistic than Horizons so I thank the dev team for their work in this area. I am sure that with the updates coming the game will get better and better. I have confidence in your team's ability to continue to mould this game and continually make improvements. Finally, I like the "start" your team has made with communication with the community; hopefully, this will get better and better, more frequent, and more open. Not all commanders are unhappy with the Odyssey release. Listen to ALL the comments, good and bad, make changes and improvements that you think are needed, and do not lose hope.

"I am part of the silent majority" is mankind's equivalent to this:
iu

I'm not buying this ruse.

Due to the quantity and nature of VR bugs in EDO it's obvious FDEV changed a lot more than they should have - like the entire engine maybe? This is why VR can't be supported on-foot and I fear won't ever be. There are so many UI/FX/rendering problems... I wish FDEV good luck getting back to "par" with whatever Big Thing they bit off...

Meanwhile No Man's Sky is better and better patch by patch. They can manage VR on foot, on ship, on bases, on planet surface without any fps issue. And those planets are much more complex than ED planets. Water, flora, fauna, etc. Very sad...

Just a shame it's a constant grind-fest that makes ED look like a Sunday picnic by comparison. And the animals still look ridiculous.

As Tonto was once reputed to say, "What's all this 'we', paleface?" Back in the day I wanted to walk around stations, not inside my vehicles. Not that many flight sims let you walk around the airport lobbies, and fewer still let you take a dump in the jumbo jet toilet.

It is about graph performance and fps, not the game play... Anyways grind-fest. What do u call EDO on foot engieers material collecting missions? I call them grind-fest.

They're optional. I don't do them. In NMS the grind is part of the necessary gameplay.
Sure... What can u do in EDO without engineered suits, ships, weapons. All games about grind-fest. Once more, VR graph performance and game play / grind-fest are two different things. I was taking about poor VR fps performance.

Quite a lot... but I don't need to grind to get engineering mats. They come naturally through doing missions and other gameplay.
Oh man! How many times should I write? I was talking about VR FPS!!! VR FPS ! ! ! U never reply the poor fps rate and poor performance but grind-fest bull chit...

Thank you David for this update. I have been playing since 1984 and am now 63 years of age. Playing again since Premium Beta and what was promised back during Kickstarter. You did eventually deliver despite the lockdown. Well done to everyone there at Frontier.
