Greetings Commanders,
With our first hotfix now released and another one arriving very shortly, I wanted to take a moment to address the wider community feedback and reports regarding performance issues, server outages, and bug reports within Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
First and foremost, I would like to apologise wholeheartedly to those who have been suffering from these problems. I would like to reassure you that we take these issues very seriously and that they are our top priority and focus.
Our second hotfix will be released very soon, which we hope will address more of the reported bugs and bring further stability improvements into the game. We will continue to work on updates which will resolve more bugs and improve stability further.
Some of our players are reporting poor performance on machines where we would expect the performance to be good, and others are saying it is fine. We are trying to get to the bottom of this. I have been playing on my old home machine from 2014, which has an Intel i7 Extreme CPU and a GTX 980 GPU, 16 Gb RAM, playing at 1080p full screen at Ultra. I was doing this so I could have a good feel for how the game was playing on older hardware, and I used this same machine during Alpha. I have also been playing on a high spec 2021 dev machine.
I would like to thank you all for your patience and support. The Elite Dangerous community has always been at the heart of the game. We understand that there are a number of players who have had problems accessing and playing the game and I can assure you that we are focusing fully on improving this for those affected and communicating with you openly and regularly about how these issues are being addressed.
Thank you all,
David
Hello David!
I know I'm probably going to say something that a lot of people won't like, but I don't think you really care about community opinion. There's a good chance your appearance here is a courtesy visit, due to the game's plummeting steam rating, and an attempt to keep it from falling further.
Your main interest is not the community but the investors, the most important thing for you is to show them nice numbers of pre-orders and sales, that's what you've been doing.
A lot of odyssey's problems stem from your complete isolation. you haven't shared anything with the community, neither victories nor problems. yes, i know, i've heard of people screaming "i don't want to know anything about the game's development and how they're doing!" and, well, actually equal responsibility for such a bad start lies on them, because apparently in your interactions with the community you relied exclusively on their opinion, as it was convenient for you. And, it's frustrating because if you had really kept the community informed and let them help you develop the game with earlier announcements and tests, a lot of the problems could have been avoided because, in fact, problems similar to the odyssey launch have occurred to you more than once, remember even the launch of the fleet carriers.
In general, I would like to believe that you'll finally come to your senses and really listen to your whole community (and not just those who shout about not wanting to know anything about game development), but we all know you will continue to keep the same closed development mode without paying any attention to your community and thus Odyssey is not the last disgusting release that we will all be facing without a doubt.
to the general problems as well, add the problems of mission generation and balance (you should really divert the development team for a day and sit them over and over again to pass missions 4 and 5 levels (because the others are virtually non-existent) in the costumes and weapons first levels, the next day they will know what to do).
and i'm sure you were well aware of all the issues with the game (because if not, maybe you should seriously reconsider the competence of the people in charge of your connection to the development teams, and yet you chose to call the released version a release (although they are now wearing the well-deserved "early access" tag (more appropriate for the released version)).
Thank you, sincerely yours Di.
