Newcomer / Intro Ok, i'm making progress....but....

The strangest thing just happened to me. I'm about 3 days into the game, learning lots, no rage quites, past that. I'm hooked, But anyway, I start a very meager, easy mission to deliver some data to someone in the bridge system. So I'm thinking its only 17.2 Ls away, maybe I can make some easy cash multiple times to start paying off my newly aquired fine for 75,000 for accidently discharging my lasers withing close proximity to where I was takiing off from. Twice! . So i took the mission from bondar gate, three jumps and some supercruise thing engaged, I started going really really fast, the only option to slow down was J-J . So I come to a stop 5 percent fuel, can';t go anywhere, now i'm actually dying..... i'm ejecting...... Ship destroyed....

Your prepaid ship comes with something called SCO. It's a boost mode for supercruise, eats fuel like crazy. It's good for travelling long cruise distances or getting out of gravity wells but it's not something you turn on and forget. Keep an eye on your fuel gauge, if you run out of fuel you die.

Have I mentioned taking an Apex and seeing what they do? I think I have. They don't have SCO. Learn what they do before you start applying boost to everything.

Oooooh, I hit boost while in hyperdrive....aaah. That good to know now. I guess my thumb got button happy.....lol

Did it again, ran out of gas......@#$%^&*!!!!

The same button that activates it deactivates it, the default is the boost while not in SC button, so the tab key on keyboard and whatever you have set up in controls of you are using joystick. I sometimes accidentally activate it, but because my thumb is still on the button I can just deactivate it immediately. It could be you have it bound to a control also used for some other function, so check you keyboard and controller binding to make sure it is bound to a key by itself so you don't accidentally activate it. No, there is no banning, there is just embarrassment, but most of us have been there ourselves so don't sweat it!

Check your binds... default binds are tricky that way. They usually have "fire button deploys weapons" enabled, so if you accidentally trigger the fire button, weapons get deployed. Triggering the fire button again... well, you've seen what happens. Among the things recommended to do is to disable that checkbox, which means you'll need to deploy the weapons on purpose before you can fire them.

Call the Fuel Rats - they'll resupply you and also gladly give you some pointers in order to avoid having to call them out in the future.

Does one just get banned after so many failures?
Nah. There are a few reasons which may you get banned (the rules boil down to "don't be an ..."), but that's not one of them.

But: if you want to train your capabilities without losing your actual ship every time (ok, I take it you are flying an ARX-bought CMV, so the rebuy cost is probably not an issue yet), the start menu also gives you access to various training missions - and not all of those are a simple as the mandatory pilot training.

While disabling the trigger deploys weapons button in the bindings look for one that lets you eject all cargo with a single press, disabling that is also recommended or at least bind it to a combination of keys so that you can’t lose all your cargo by accident.

You always have to be aware of how much fuel you have . The SCO is brilliant for moving quickly around a system. If say you want to get quickly from the star to a station in supercruise, press the boost button, then watch the count-down timer under the target on your HUD. Press the boost again exactly when it reaches 1:00. During the boost, watch how your fuel is going down. Make sure to cancel the boost with the second press if it goes too low.

You can kill yourself as many times you want. You get 6 arx towards your next pre-release ship every time you self-destruct. It's probably best to sign up to one of the Powerplay guys that give free rebuys if you're going to kill yourself a lot.

Personally, if I was starting again, I'd avoid using the SCO until I got the hang of the standard super-cruise.

I've only just started using the SCO myself having used the standard model (no, not that standard model :D ) for years. I'm still getting used to it and performing the loop of shame multiple times. And yes, as others have said, that fuel burns down as nearly as quickly as doing a full range hyperspace jump.

Yeah, my Type 6 burns through fuel like anything in SCO, but wait until you pop it into a Cobra Mk5, you can practically fly that to Andromeda on SCO (ok a slight exaggeration maybe, but Hutton Orbital has been done in SCO!)

Interesting - what makes the Cobra V so good on fuel with the SCO? I'm using a Mandalay at the moment.

All 4 of the new ships are a new generation native to SCO tech so are all very effective with it.

Do think a size 1 or 2 (depending on size of ship) SCO stability device is called for, for the older ships.
Eeek. I dread to think what would happen - fuel-wise - if I whacked an SCO on my sploro-phantom.

I've upgraded most of my ships. To SCO. and on the whole id consider it an essential upg. Bgs work and PP work are sped up no end. Hauling goods, escaping an impending interdict attempt etc. But the hauling side is most affected if your just going to a neighbouring system(s).
