OMG - Double Painite Mining

I really ought to give it a go. I used to like doing the odd bit of old school mining every now and then. I never quite clicked with core mining, either I was unlucky or doing something wrong but , I could never get anywhere near the profits per hour that some reported. Sure, I could make plenty of credits, but it took so long to find the cores.

On a side note, I'm looking to get one of my alts up to trade Elite. Would multi-box wing mining be faster than being a multi-crew on a mining ship? I know multi-crew would be easier to manage but most likely won't contribute to unlocking Selene Jean.

I’d bring a friend along in a regular wing. If they didn’t collect themselves, you’d get both your yield, and theirs from the same rock.

Each player gets their own alottment.

Your ‘depleted’ asteroid may still be 100% for a wing mate if they haven’t fired on it.

In all the time I've been laser mining my painite spot I've only ever accidentally prospected 3 cores. 1 Pt, 2 painite. that alone is enough to put me off further core mining.

Similar thing here.

When DC mining became a thing I refitted my T10 with all the mining toys but it soon became apparent that in a ship like the T10 it's actually more efficient to just ignore DC roids and carry on laser-mining instead.
Since then, I've been sort of keeping score of how many DC roids I've "missed out on" while laser-mining and it's probably only half a dozen or so.

Funny thing is, when I do go DC mining, I don't have any problems finding DC roids.
I think it's down to speed.
When laser-mining, I'm just trundling from roid to roid, cargo-scoop extended, and probably only cover 100km in an hour.
When DC mining, I'm doing 350m/sec, pinging with the PWA as I go, and I cover up to 750km per hour.

Personally, I still prefer Painite mining to Deep Core mining.
DC mining is extended periods of flying around, getting irritated because you can't find any DC roids followed by brief periods of mining and then annoyance when your limpets decide to kill themselves by bashing into the chunks of roid.
Painite mining is more relaxed and steady.

Same. Although you can get pretty busy if you care bout things like "optimum position for limpet scooping" etc. But the fact there's a double hotspot in one of my all-time favorite home stations, (HIP21991 - yeah I already lived there way before it was considered cool due to excellent outfitting and multi-type pristine rings - and way before they put a player faction in it), coupled with the fact you can also get engineer mats while mining painite, makes it a no-brainer for me.

In Open?....... :geek::geek::geek:

S'funny, I was in HIP 21991 to do a bit of mining the other day.
I wanted to test out mining lances on my T10, in place of the C1 mining lasers, so I had to wait while they got transfered from SD.
I spent about 45 minutes cruising around HIP 21991, in Open, just looking for something to do.
Absolutely nobody around, despite the fact that traffic reports said there'd been 600-odd CMDRs in-system over the last 24 hours.
I guess everybody's being cautious.

I ended up doing two mining sessions in my T10, in Open, and didn't see another CMDR the entire time.

Actually, thinking about it, I wonder if that might be part of the reason I was getting ~60 Arx per session while some people seem to only be getting 5 or 6 Arx?

You get additional ARX for playing in open??

On topic, two LTD runs in a Cutter took me 6 hours and yielded 1.2 billion credits. It's such crazy money I wonder why FD even bothered nerfing Skimmer missions, Quince and Robigo.

Honestly, no idea.

I just know I did get 65 Arx after the first mining run and 58 (IIRC) after the 2nd one.
The first one happened after I'd spent a bit of time flying around to locate my spare Mining Lances so that "exploration" might've got me a few more Arx.
The second one, though, was literally me launching from Charlois City, going to the ring, mining 256t of Painite and then delivering it to somewhere around 250Ly away, then returning to Charlois and logging off.
That got me 58 Arx whereas some people are saying they're only getting 6 Arx for a similar activity.

It just occured to me that I was in Open for those 2 mining sessions so I thought I'd mention it. 🤷‍♂️

The rings are so mind-boggingly gigantic that the chances of someone finding you even inside a double hotspot are slightly less than 0.000000000001%. Unless of course you're an NPC pirate, in that case you'll just know and will already be on the precise spot where a player will arrive later.

Mmhh, must be investigated further. That would be some breaking news having FD distributing incentives for playing in open (and a lot of salt, as for everything :)). Can't wait so sit at home again :D

Apologies in advance if already asked before.....

So I wanted to have a shot at this and went to Borann. Found a double if not tripple Low Temp Diamonds hot spot and went somewhere in between 2 hot spots. When I started to scan the roids I found nothing unusal, maybe 3 of 15 roids had LTDs at anything from <5% to 10-15% and one 22%.
Am I doing something wrong, or has it been nerfed before I tried it?

BTW I tried landing without having one hotspot targeted and with one hotspot targeted.

That's normal. Ice mining tops out at 30%. I'd think the point would be to do both core and laser on LTD spots. And there should be a triple spot at Borann, at least that's the claim.

Ok thanks so that kind of frequency and content is what a triple/double spot shows... I got the impression that nearly every asteroid has LTDs and high content.
so my expectation was high then.
Thanks and cheers!

Well I started playing about a week ago (after a very long break, a few months after the game was released).
I grinded from Sidewinder to Cobra MK3. Then Asp Explorer. That took hard work.
Then I found out about double Painite mining. Now I have a Type7, Python, all A grade gear and 350mil credits, all after a couple of days and maybe 4-5 runs total.
I think the game just got much shorter than it should be, even with its huge galaxy.
