On-Foot Component Farming - my favorite methods

Thanks for the tip. It's still the "messing with missions" type of advice that I like to avoid for personal reasons, so I will experiment some more with POI-generating missions first, then I will try your method :).

As for the Financial Projections, that's one problem I won't be having, as the only reason to get those is to unlock Oden Geiger, and the only reason to unlock him is to get Night Vision. Not only do I not need this mod cause I have both Dominator and Maverick with that mod from a vendor, but also, believe it or not, I hate that mod. The game looks beautiful without it and the flashlight is super climactic... which might be an indicator that I played too much Alien vs Predator as the Marine back in the day :sneaky: .
I'm not particularly fond of NV, but I have been in settlements where it's very dark, and where I struggle to see something. Maybe telling that I unlocked the engineer but didn't add NV to any of my suits. I'll probably add it to my Maverick at some point (probably also one of the mods that fits on an Artemis).

Well this is going totally off topic (but the topic is mine so it's fine lol), but I can't see why you would bother putting any mods on the Artemis, other than maybe sprint duration. Nobody sane would run around in an Artemis given that any distance that takes more than 15 seconds of running can be covered faster by just hopping into an SRV. In fact, when I played around with exobiology, I found myself merely stepping out of the SRV to scan and hopping back in again, recalling the ship when I was done with the trip some 50km away from the starting point.

If there were caves or explorable terrain that was too rough for an SRV to comfortably travel across, then prolonged hikes in an artemis could make sense. As it is, and quite ironically so, the only places that are more convenient to travel across in a suit than in an SRV are... settlements, so the only places on the planet where you don't want to be in an Artemis xD.

Edit: Oh and the reason I'm bringing up an SRV is that the SRV has NV anyway ;)

An Artemis suit makes a good assassination suit, especially with nv + jump assist in low g bodies.

Well sure, I need to relog occasionally for instance when I want to pay off newly incurred fines, get an engineer invite, or the instance is somehow bugged, etc. The need for those relogs would seem to be bugs to me.

Regarding relogs for loot it's rather inconsistent. If you relog at a Horizons site a normal relog to main menu is enough, a relog at a HGE must be a complete relog to desktop. In Odyssey if you have a mission to a POI like a crashed satellite it will disappear at relog if you took the mission item, but if you didn't take it then the satellite and all mats/data will still be there at relog.

If you have a mission to get something from a settlement then a relog after landing will remove all mats/data except for the quest item.

One of the coolest relog exploits that I've seen is at the Odyssey sites with the 3 containers that give weapon schematics. Pick up all the mats except for the quest item, then relog inside the container. You'll reinstance inside the container with the door closed, you can loot and no scav can get to you... :D
I agree, relog to fix a bugged state of something I can get behind, I would prefer FDev fix the bug but we can't have everything.

Sooo, not sure what I am doing wrong on the manufacturing instructions grind but if I relog back out to the main menu and back in there is no data or mats. I have to exit out to desktop and back into the game to find data.
Any suggestions?

Did you find the beacon randomly or was it one from a mission?

Relogging in EDO settlements was 'fixed' (if only every other relog scam was) to encourage players to play the content.
If you 'need' to relog, you are already using the only workaround.

If it was a random beacon/poi it's normal.
If you had a mission at that POI and you didnt pick the mission objective, you should be able to menu-log without quitting to desktop.
See this 👇

OK, so for finding the manufacturing data from the "R2D2" looking impact site, the above gives better
info. I was following the Down to Earth Astronomy video but finding a place that fit his description was
like looking for a needle in a haystack; literally spent hours with no luck.
Best luck was Inara search for the War or Civil War states and looking for a landable planet somewhat close
to the primary star (since its supposed to be a crashed nav beacon) AND you have to log out to the desktop
not the main menu to reset.

I wouldnt recommend YT guides. Most are already outdated.

Dont just look for random Impact sites.
It's way better to just get a mission to retrieve an object from a crash site.
IF you dont pick the mission objective - you should be able to relog to menu instead of quit to desktop.

So, if you get a mission to pick up a micro transformer or a circuit board (*), just dont pick the mission objective. Check the data port, download the Manufactured Instructions and relog. After relog, the satellite will still be there since you have a mission to it. No need to quit to desktop.

*(you will get the large spherical crashed satellite - which is the best for farming Manufacturing Instructions and the occasional Power Regulator)

What type of crashed satellite you get based on required mission item type:

Small winged type (data port with maximum 3 entries and one panel):
  • Micro Supercapacitor
  • Electromagnet
  • Encrypted Memory Chip
  • Memory Chip

Large spherical (data port with maximum 4 entries, 2 panels, one also having a PR):
  • Circuit Board
  • Micro Transformer

I saved this for more convenience.

For my money I avoid relogski as a gamey excuse.
I got most of my manufacturing instructions either as mission rewards or from powered down industrial settlements.
Having some stealth skills allows me to pick up any assets I want from a live settlement without the locals being any the wiser.

So do i, except when i don't.
If i really want to fast level and mod a pair of weapons and a new suit - which may happen on a whim, just to test something - and i dont have the required stupid high number of MI available - i will do whatever it takes to get it done - that is either get them from the carrier market or relog the hell outa a crashed satellite

I mean, i definitely atm i dont have 75 MI stashed if i would find myself in that scenario mentioned above
And not like we are able to store an decent enough number of data nor we can trade them around like we can do for assets where i can trade and store only the most expensive components. Like for chems - i can keep only graphene and trade it to whatever i may need for mod or upgrade - same for weapon components (techs) or microelectrodes (circuits)

75? The last project I did was my L6 and Maverick taking both from G3 to G5 when the Revenants turned up. I don't think it required 75 MI but I did have quite a few in my inventory and Carrier.
