Open letter to Frontier Developments. RE: Decals

The problem is that, if this was intended to gauge interest, Frontier is going to think that nobody is interested in decals because not a lot of people are going to buy these.

How do you know that?

Well, yes.

I'm part of the player base and don't feel that way, so... well, no. Your statement is incorrect.

You're attributing the "well, yes." comment to me. I didn't make it.

As for the other half of your comment ... it's called a generalization. I base it on the overwhelming reaction that I've seen and heard in my own, admittedly small, circle of acquaintances who play Elite. I've yet to see a single person express an interest in purchasing any of the three decal packs recently added to the store. I guess you make up the first exception to that.

Please don't generalise when it involves speaking for others. Aside from annoying everyone who doesn't agree, it diminishes your point by placing a provably false statement right in the middle of it. That doesn't help convince people: "Here's my point, here is my supporting evidence, including the fact the sky is pokadot pink".

I think most people can accept generalizations and realize that there will always be exceptions. I'd rather discuss the core of my argument and not the specifics of my word choices.

We need an "Open Letter to Frontier" decal.

How do you find time to play Elite when so much of your schedule is spent splitting hairs?

It's not splitting hairs. It's having words shoved into my mouth and people making blatantly untrue statements.

But thanks for your helpful input.

I like the idea of both decals that directly resonate with players (Fed / Imp / Alliance / event driven etc) AND generic ones as well - I don't want or need to recognise every logo out there any more than I do when a company van drives by. I'd like to see more stuff out there than I personally identify with. Fills out the galaxy etc.

On a different note, and it's a really minor point, but I find billboard advertising in stations for the Feds / Imps etc a bit strange. Corporate ads sure, but you don't see 'Join the UN' in your local high street. That kind of thing doesn't usually require a sales pitch ;)

Edit:

TBH, FD should just let us upload our own and use a screening process like Warframe's Clan/Alliance tag upload system.

Charge a one time fee to upload an image that cannot be obscene/copyrighted. If rejected for said reasons, no refunds. If accepted, update to server to be patched in on a bi-weekly/weekly basis.

+1 but these has to come with the option for cmdr rename, only visual tags are pretty useless imho

I'm more confused as to why the only companies that advertise are ship manufacturers, and Remlok. Like, where's Dave Roofing Company? People still have roofs in the 34th century, don't they?

Nobody's putting words into your mouth. Earlier you included a quote from someone else where you attributed it to me. I pointed it out not accuse you of putting words into my mouth but simply to explain why I wasn't responding to that particular question.

Colloquial English often invoked generalizations as part of ordinary speech. "Everyone likes Ice Cream", "Nobody listens to Nickleback". I never intended to infer that you personally agree with me and I don't think that anyone reading what I wrote would assume that my use of "we" was intended to be 100% universal... Unless of course they wanted to win a round of forum PvP :)

I have to agree, the current batch of decals seem unimaginiative in design and have no context. I cant see a reason why any individual would want to buy them.

Now the powerplay decals alluded to in the Powerplay trailer, that's a different story...

Totally, but now they're called polychromatic plastiglass observation sheeting. And where's Starbux Space Coffee Inc et al? We spend enough time hauling the stuff around! Well, some people do :D

My suggestion would be to implement a forum that players could make an initial post to for requesting an insignia.

After that, only Volunteer Moderators or other "official" people could comment. Their purpose would be to up or down vote the content based on specific acceptance criteria.

After a number of upvotes, say three, the person making the turnkey vote would lock the thread and submit it to FDev for addition to the store. It then becomes a micro-transaction for sale.

The biggest problem isn't going to be censoring 'vulgar and offensive' content. It will be policing content that amounts to copyright infringement.

I'm just happy we got finaly new decals, it was about time! So I'm not gonna complain... wouldn't mind superpower decals tough. Really wonder why those are still not available as decals in game.

PowerPlay decals please.

Favorite player factions have them, participants in the Rise to Power got them, please provide some for those that have stuck with PowerPlay for the last couple years.
