There are arguments for doing it and arguments for not doing it, but even if the issue was still being discussed in five years time my point was that it shouldn't need to be resolved one way or the other to deal with that particular problem. I mean personally I wouldn't want to play with a bunch of exploiters/cheats regardless of whether it was in direct conflict in open or in remote conflict via pushing counters around a table in solo. The only way you should deal with trash is bin it.

The only other cheats that were out there was the g1 rolls. Those have been punished and overridden by the new engineers. Open is a pretty level playing field at the moment.
If any part of the game is actually properly balanced. Its the Open mode in general. Its in a really good spot.

As brilliant as your video is however, it does little to help ease the tension in our silly community. How about using your delicious wit, OP, and make a video as to why exactly PP does need to go Open? I bet it would be not only hysterical, but also quite persuasive ......

Uhm.. is ging on here? I disagree with RedAnders -which I generally make a point of not doing- and I agree with you, 90skid. In a way. As far as PP goes: there are bots. There is evidence. The easiest way to counter it: powerplay open only. Let players destroy them. Because as much as I have defended fdev in the past: their ways of dealing with hackers has been.. lackluster to say the least (I can 't use bad words here)
So regarding PP I'm all for making it Open only. (The general bgs, not so much. But let's not go there again ok?

Yeah same, I'd become a powerplayer PvPer if it does, and give some meaning as well for the activity that I really like doing.
As far as I am aware at the moment, Obsidian Ant, Yamiks and the other bigger content creators can do that much more effectively than I ever will with why it should be open only, I'm just here for posting mainly. However you're idea is quite good, but I wouldn't know where to start on a video like that.

Its really painful when ED is crying out for player driven emergent content like Open Powerplay, and is always dropped or delayed. The amount of time wasted on fighting 5C rather than actually doing proper Powerplay is incredible compared to the scope of emergency changes required (from a player perspective at least).

Yep, I think Fdev understand the need for at least one open only feature now, and Powerplay is ideal for that role.. They're just scared of the PvE backlash (like always [rolleyes] ).
Open PP would be great for the game though.. Masses of players controlling everything from the shadows of solo and PGs is bad for the game as it creates an image of inactivity at a glance and generates very little if any content for streamers or other content creators. Direct conflict is exciting to the wider gaming community and so is good for the game's outreach (Twitch, YouTube, gaming press etc), number wars are not.

The end game for FD should be to get ED self sustaining- Open PP would make that much easier. My bet/ hope is Sandro has a big chalkboard that has squadrons, Powerplay and carriers in a massive Venn diagram with Open in the middle overlap.

We will simply have to see. All we have heard is that Powerplay improvements are not in Q4.
There are other changes that need to be made to PP as well. The whole thing was sold as a means to influence the galaxy but was designed to be utterly stagnant.
Well, see everyone back here in a years time for more of the same- that is if Powerplay is still played in that time.
