This has been argued over and over in the past and never gets anywhere. The fact is solo and open share the same Elite universe and that's not going to change. Even if you made some actions like missions only available in open they would be easy enough to circumvent, ie. switch to solo after accepting it.

No, because the game isn't designed that way, and even if FD wanted to do that, they couldn't.

Pretty much this. If its going to be locked out in one direction it should be locked out in the other as well.

If its an open only experience, then whatever happens should only affect people in open.

Everyone is on an equal footing in solo. Its the most egalitarian mode!

Open mode is easy mode as well. Everything becomes easier if you can wing up.
