Open Play experience just blows…

Problem in open is the amount of ***sy's imo.

When i fly in my FDL things are fine, talk/play with other players etc.
Never ever get interdicted, not even by people in a wing.

When i fly in a cargo/passenger/jump ship (no weapons) then i get interdicted constantly and killed by 1 or more players (usually more)

This make's it so i can only fly in open and do things if i am in my FDL.
(And my FDL can only do combat :( )

Just switch to your FDL and interdict them back. :)

I certainly cannot speak for everyone, but I (and most of the people I know) would totally pull your FDL and not some unarmed AspX if both of you were in supercruise, that's way more fun.

That's also beside the point of this line of discussion, which was about the optionality of NPC vs. CMDR encounters. With block, CMDR encounters are more optional, and less contextually optional. Without block, they are the same kind and similar degrees of optional.
Indeed, in the hypothetical case of block being removed.

What we really need is an alien race that will attack at will and cause all manner of problems across the bubble so we all have to band together to defend what we have, now where can we find a race like that ;)

I totally don't get blown to bits and neither does anyone else who prepares for the expectable danger, so it must be a 'you' problem.

If you want warnings, here you are: you can always expect to get pulled in player hotspots like CGs and similar events, Reverskinrarta Dezhra and engineer systems. Anywhere else the risk is very low, in most systems it's virtually nonexistent.
Carebear standard operating procedure:
  • Refuse to prepare for open
  • Enter open anyway
  • Complain about gankers
  • Block a ganker
  • Block another ganker
  • Block another ganker
  • ...
  • Complain about open feeling empty

I don't need a magic eight ball to predict the odds of Thargoids ever being more than an inconsequential bolt-on as very doubtful. All hardship in this cutthroat galaxy our CMDRs meander around is opt-in and self-inflicted.

Playing among other players without engaging in combat with them, often towards a common goal.
Yes, this I understand, and I'd even back some kind of open PvE mode, still I don't see the common goals in the gameplay. If hauling you'd might be forced to wait due to occupied pads, if visiting CZs you might have your kills stolen, if visiting something like Dav's hope find the mats gone, if visiting a guardian site find it already activated, etc...

Mind you that some of the best in game time I've had has been playing with discord friends working together for a common goal, like clearing a CZ or settlement quickly, exploring and activating a thargoid structure, etc. Still I'd argue that those were good because of playing with friends and not because it was played with random strangers that happened to instance with me.

In fact open so far has been a big disappointment as far as cooperative PvE gameplay is concerned.. Mostly inane drivel in the chat, pad blockers, gankers, etc.. :D

Not sure that it's the "carebear" subset of the player base that the complaint at the end emanates from the most.

Needless to say, the "carebear" subset of the player base don't need to care about what the gankers want, as the gankers rather obviously don't care what the "carebear"s want.

Virtually all the people I've played with in game, I met in Open. Every friend, every ally, every persistent rival...they were all random strangers at one point.

One example that I'll use because I have the videos on hand...

Everyone except Shippy was new to me here:

Organic encounters and interactions are my bread and butter in games like this.

Player is geared for AX combat - specifically engineered to handle in game context raid bosses, gets interdicted by wing of 3k DPS frag build Mamba/FDLs for the lols and gets called a carebear.

It's not the Blockers that complain about Open being empty - it's the Gankers.

How many gankers have you seen complaining in this thread, for example?

I do not have the inclination to hunt down the copious threads where Gankers have proposed myriad mechanics to incentivize bringing more people in open, or eliminate the other modes to improve their "immersion" or "bgs / Powerplay fairness". They are not wearing badges that say "I am a Ganker".

If you can't reliably identify who is or is not a ganker, how do you know it's predominantly gankers proposing these mechanisms? Not a rhetorical question.
