Open PvE

obviously its a fake but my thinking would be that with factions patrolling their boarders would mean that traders would be safe from attack, but to get the big profit between factions, traders would need to travel into and through anarchy systems where pirate factions fight for dominance over the available trade lanes. npc wings would be available for traders aswell as player cmdrs perforing escort duties.

so i'd have to socialize if i want to play?
let me think about it....
no.

solo play for me is not about feeling safe, it's about being alone.

still i think i get you completely wrong ;)

its supposed to be a advert to bring pve and pvp groups together.
solo would remain solo.
Solo will always be in the game as its the closest thing to the offline mode.
blimey offline mode, if that was a thing we wouldn't be having this big discussion now.

Yes we would. There would still be the players that want to Co-Op, but not PvP. In order, from what I've read, for Open to be the default mode, FD would have to find a way to toggle PvP on and off. Doing so, would bring me into Open more, but would infuriate the 'PvP/Open Only crowd'. I could get behind two options made in this thread. Co-Op Mode on the log in screen, or PvP on/off toggle in Open. Which do you think would be easier, cheaper, and best received?

I never said PvE players are a minority. I believe PvE players which adamantly refuse to have any possibility, no matter how remote, of a hostile player encounter are a minority. But that sort of, frankly, dogmatic outlook on the game probably has little to do with the game itself, in whatever shape and form.

I don't understand this logic : Meritz: "I never said PvE players are a minority. I believe PvE players which adamantly refuse to have any possibility, no matter how remote, of a hostile player encounter are a minority."

People who prefer PVE universe, and are playing in a PVE universe would not expect a hostile player in the first place. That would defeat the purpose of a PVE universe. In Open, due to the very nature of the game mode, all players should be open to the expectation of being attacked by another player.

Mobius sums up perfectly....

Lol that's actually funny, because I din't expect to get blown up by someone in the PVE group.

Reading my post again, it can be interpreted incorrectly.. so rephrased:

Isn't coming normally spelt "coming"... at least in British English? Never seen it spelt "comming".

Argh! Cannot control... impulses... to point out... spelling... losing grip...

"Coming" has just the one 'M'!

I'm fine. Fine. All good. I'm breathing again.

Well now, my spelling is right on par with a "German Shepard". I knew, "coming" only had one "M". If I'm calling you on it, that means its really, really bad.

it's the honor system

apparently people are honorable: Mobius has only booted 4 of 6200 players

it takes a special kind of person to grief in PvE

Well to be fair I did not read the rules of the Mobius Group, I just took it for granted that it was a PVE only group. There's a lesson in that. Read the rules of the group you join.

Not to mention 4/6200 over many months, 6+ I think, I will avoid the maths on that lol, too many zero's after the decimal point.

I was around when the Mobius group was created, when the rules were still being discussed, so I did realise that PVP in CZ when on opposing sides is ok (if you want to), never personally been in a CZ in Mobius but I have read a couple of posts where people have asked the other player who is there, what side they are on and do they want some company.

Weighting that against 4 people booted I would would guess most of them say "Hi want some help", rather than try to sneak up and kill the hollow target, but I guess that's a PVE mentality, in a PVE group, working as intended.

Coming back to the numbers, ~400k players (well people who bought the game), 41k forum members, 6200 Mobius members. How did the majority of Mobius members learn about Mobius, the forum for me & most I would guess, Reddit maybe for some. 6200/41k = 15%, if my logic is correct, and I will soon know if its not lol, ~15% of the people to ~ 30% who even have a chance to find out about the Mobius group are Mobius members, not every buyer plays, not every forum account is active.

I think some people are worried that if there is a open PVE button in the start menu a lot of sheep will move to new pastures, ~10% of people that own the game have a forum account, 100% of them have to use the login page every time they want to play the game.

Back to the reason I asked Mobius how many bad eggs he had to get rid of (apart from my curiosity) 4/6200 = 0.000654%, that's tiny.

Copy the Mobius group, add a link to the launcher (with the warning / tick to agree box, "if you are reported for PKing, we will look @ the logs & if guilty, fine you the full price of the victims loss, which we will return to the victim, including vouchers etc and you are banned for x time from that group", FD shouldn't have too much to manage or too many logs to check for 0.000654%, lol I wouldn't even hope it would be that low if it was in the login menu but its a factual number, in the biggest PVE group we have right now!.

I am not a Dev so I won't say "it would take 5 mins, it easy", but it would be a link to a very large private group managed by FD, working on an honour system, everyone welcome, we are all mates here (until you PK someone, then you are banned), hell it sounds just like Mobius group (with a browser button pointing to it, and a Dev with actual data managing it). I hope it wouldn't be too hard.

I suspect the more people join up, the more crimes of opportunity will arise -- as people get packed together.

That being said, I think the problem will be manageable, provided FD get some trusted volunteers (like on the forum)

I am sure there will be more problems the bigger the group gets, that's why I suggested an "opt in" where you agree that if you kill a player you will pay for every thing they lost & and that will compensate the person losing.

I think FD would need to manage it, if its in the start menu it is their responsibility imho, they can check logs, fine & compensate on real data (obviously video helps) & kick / ban offenders.

I know the Mobius % of problems is very low (that says something in its self) if they administer it well, and I don't think it will take a lot to do it could be a great addition to the game.

Well, Mobius gained another 100+ players since this thread started (now at 6300 members). It seems there is sustained interest in the PvE play style!

Come on FD, let's make PvE an official choice!

(is Mobius being advertised on the Steam forums?)

Actually it's more of a PvE and a PvP play style, When someone in the group can get a cheap kill.
