OpenXR not working since update.

I had originally posted this in another section, but realised that it probably belonged here:

So I have finally got back to the game on a day off after the update and OpenXR will not work.
The game (direct Frontier version of Odyssey) constantly searches for and starts in steamVR.
I have done the usual replacement of openvr_api.dll files, which are now in D:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\Openvr\win32 and ............\win64.
I have restarted the computer several times and ensured the latest files are in there, but the game still goes straight into steamVR.
I have disconnected the headset and started the game and an error comes up telling me that the steamVR headset cannot be found (never had this before).

What the heck is going on?
Has anyone else got a clue??

Cheers.

FWIW, I have an Index that isn't connected at the moment. Since a while back just launching the game starts up steamvr which complains about the missing headset but the game starts up normally in pancake mode. This is a recent change to how it works on this system, maybe it's related to your problem.

Edit: This is starting the game from the Frontier launcher without steam running.

I use Reverb G2 and have never had this issue before, even throughout all of the updates. Actually, If I didn't have my headset connected and tried to start, it came up with a completely different error message and steamVR never fired up. If I run in pancake mode, it never looked for a VR headset in the first place. Now, even in pancake mode, it still tries to fire up steamVR and gives an error. If I have the G2 connected, it starts with black triangles instead of the blue ones. This is a dead givaway that it's steam and not OpenXR, not to mention the resulting ty frame rates.

And yes, this is starting directly from Frontier and not steam.

Cheers for your input.
