(Opinion) Fdev has messed up exploration

And I'll state once again, being forced to sit still (throttle down) while in the FSS is a poor design choice/limitation, both for solo and multicrew.

Allow CMDRs to fly towards a target while using the FSS. Better still, create some synergies between the mechanics and allow the new Supercruise Assistant to take you to an object while you continue to use the FSS to analyse others in the system.

Perhaps the dev's should just make the whole of the galaxy already discovered and mapped, then throw out any of the exploration tools as no-one will need them.

It would get rid of the continuing bleating about the ADS/FSS :D

Agreed. Using the FSS is already pretty dull, like a 20th century dial radio.
But it brings in a little more cash, plus it helps to ID USS'es, so we have no choice but to use it.

Or have the FSS Scanner Screen functionality overlaid on the analysis HUD.

The most elegant solution would be to just put the old modules back in & let players target a body to fly towards, it would work with any of the other suggestions too.

Different people like different things Ratcatcher, there was no need to remove the old modules.

So let them just make it so that none of the modules are required - the same 'discussion' won't die, will it.

II guess you still have an issue with the developers stating that the ADS is not coming back - why do you keep demanding an explanation to an issue that has been clarified?

I love the new exploration tools.
Not saying they could not be immproved, but it is infinitely better than the simplistic honk mechanism. That was no gameplay at all.
The problem is that you can't quickly assess a system and as for detecting mission targets the method is daft.
With old ADS honk, you didn't get more than a token amount for discovery at range and only got full discovery recognition for actually going there.
But when want to track down a pirate, I don't really want to risk being attacked while in some fake flight mode introduced for no good reason.
And as for locating a mission target, you only used to get an approximate location and you had to go there to find it. I agree it was random and now targets are fixed, but this could be kept and you'd still have to search the area
Just saying.

the FSS is one more of these features where I'd love to have been a silent spectator of the dev meeting where the PIC argued why they thought this would be a fun new feature that added an entertaining new aspect to the game.

It would be equally fun to have witnessed the meeting where the team decided the first engineering version to be completely random, complete with slot machine visuals and sounds, and decided that would be great gameplay...

Just in case you just liked the video but didn't play it, its worth doing. That represents exactly the impression i got when using the fss for the first time. A sweet video. I can visualize max factor sitting there and doing that all day.
Would be nice if it was remotely similar. Combat in ED is closer to that then the FSS.

The preferred solution is to make it an optional module so that those who didn't like it don't have to have that functionality.

I'm looking for justification because the reasons given & mooted by others don't stand up to scrutiny. There was no incompatibility (we still have that functionality in the bubble), there was no need to remove it & the functionality is missed.

I think the removal of a core tool for exploration four years after the game was released is an action that shouldn't be done lightly, and it makes me wonder what else might be changed on a whim rather than for good reason.

It is my number one issue with the game (it is a short list).

I know it's subjective, but it's maddening how they got mining so right, and exploration so wrong.

yeah, i did. i went through a few before spotting this one and knew i had to search no further. 😂

You just don't get it, eh? This "functionality in the bubble" was a gift, a compromise for exactly the very same people like you who won't be happy with the new scanner suite (personally, I'd never given you this compromise that apparently does more harm than anything good). And it's telling that people like you who abuse the very same gift now as an argument towards an optional solution while at the same time - also quite tellingly - ignore all evidence for the inconsistency of such a solution and even stubbornly refuse any "exclusive or" proposals. With this mindset I assure you will never get a foot in this race, no matter how many other threads you're still going to derail with your hopeless agenda.

People like me eh? Not people that think others are playing the wrong way, but people like me, who are looking for rational justification for (apparently) needlessly frustrating the people like me who were actually happy with the game already.

Let's hear it from FDev. If you are right it should be really easy, yes? Still not easier than just not removing the stuff in the first place of course.

What is right or wrong exploration is totally unrelevant. The design choice was to preserve integrity of the current state of the game, which I hope will change some day. In the end, all of us different playing style tribes, were in the same boat all along.

But they have no need at all to justify their design decisions, as a LEP holder you bought a game that was part of a long-term development, it developed and you dislike it, so the developers have to explain to you why? I'm certain you feel justified demanding an explanation...

I don't care that something was removed and replaced with a different mechanism, I welcome change, progress, new (and actually interesting) gameplay, am looking forward to even more changes - let's hope that every placeholder piece of code is removed, without fanfare, and this game matures to that which was alluded to in the past.
