Out of curiousty, does anyone stick with some of "lower level" ships?

I'm a dedicated Asp'er

I've tried all the ships upto python, but an asp just feels 'right' to me.

Sure I've got a python, kitted out to carry 224 tons, feels so heavy though , even if the firepower is a lot.
I've got a Viper for hunting fun, and just whizzing about fun too.
But the Asp, .. large enough to carry a semi-decent weapons load out, but still fast enough to get out of harms way when the going gets bad, chuck in the 80 tons of cargo and the A5 FSD, you'll do the rares loop in seconds.
And of course nothing beats it for exploring... 33 ly jump range, chuck on an A5 scoop and you've got yourself a Sgr A* record breaker.

So yes, I'm with the lower level of ship because lets face it, a galaxy of anacondas would be a touch boring

Bill

Small boats all the way for me; DBS being No:1 and the Cobra/Asp fighting for 2nd. At the moment I'm in a Python doing the 100 Stop Trade Route and can safely say I hate the Python, just don't like flying it.

Space began for me in 1977 and it's all about the small ships, whizzing around and being fast...I'm just an A-Wing kinda guy I guess :)

you forgot about the diamondbacks
and you missed out smuggling and piracy in your list! :D

Guilty as charged, I know nothing about the Diamondbacks (something else to try out). Smuggling I have done very little, so not too qualified to speak here. For what I did, Courier worked quite well for me. Piracy I don't do, I am one of the good guys! ;)

I will ABSOLUTELY be getting an Imperial Eagle the moment 1.4 is released and will probably fly it as often as I can, apart from when I need to do some heavy lifting of course.

Until then the Imperial Courier is closest I can get.

i'd add the dbs to your dogfighter list, and both dbs and dbe to your explorer list (even if i would never take a dbe exploring, while i love the dbs for that).

can't talk on piracy neither, but i think cobra/Asp/clipper are ranked high there.

for smuggling cobra, some people swear for the dbe, too.

My main ships are an Anaconda for trade/smuggling/exploration and a Clipper for piracy/murder, but I do enjoy flying the vulture from time to time.

There's something about ducking and weaving between asteroids in a RES site in an extremely maneuverable ship, fighting multiple opponents at the same time that's quite enjoyable. It's like an eagle with good shields and weapons - I rather like it tbh.

I keep going to by other ships but I adore my Cobra MK III to the point that I just can't buy anything bigger than it. I want a Clipper but that's more of the Imperial role player in me loving the idea of that ship. But yes, I love my Cobra. I kinda want a fleet of em.

I find the Vulture an FDL to be extremely limiting. The powerplants and lack of internal slots arenot good for a pilot that spends alot of time away from home. The Viper is a ship I still fly for good times and I will NEVER get rid f my beloved Cobra. I use my Python for just about everything these days but in Elite there is no " this ship is better then that ship" imo. Just depends on your lifesytle.

I, personally, am very curious about the Imperial Eagle, just frustrated its Imperial (I know, that's my problem). Still, I'm very grateful for more "fighter" style ships. I can't help but admit due to my childhood that the X-Wing sort of is my archetype of an ideal spaceship.

Small ships > big ships in terms of fun, skill requirement and challenge. Big ships are great earners and essentially represent easy-mode combat against most NPCs (and human players). The more time I spend in big ships, the more I want to fly small ships. That being said - I haven't flown/played for a couple of months (or more) in this game - waiting for new content. But when I return, I'll spend time in smaller ships to maximize the fun factor.

An Imperial Courier will eat you and your Eagle for lunch, and a couple Cobras for dessert, too.

Haha a bold statement Cmdr :) All I can say is that It all really depends on the Cmdr flying it. Let me tell you a fun story about a space cowboy:

Few months ago I was flying around in my trusted Cobra having sold a Python which I was not happy with. Cmdr Wing 2/2 shows up in s/c. Imperial Couriers... How nice. I hail them: "Hello fellow imperials". No reply. Few minutes later they interdict me. Thinking this is all a misunderstanding I kept my hardpoints retracted till they started shooting at me. While running away I asked "Why are you shooting? We are on the same side?". One answered: "HAHAHAHA DIE" (or something like that).
By this stage my Cobra got really riled up being fired upon. I could understood that they were just playing around but my Cobra just didnt get it. And my Cobra don't like people laughing.
So I turned back, lined one up at 12 o'clock, 4 pips to shields boost at 440. Booom. He left a few scratches on my military grade armour. The other guy was now all alone in the vastness of vacuum, having to face my angry Cobra and my railguns. Soon he was history...
If only they appologised to my Cobra in good time, I could have convinced her that they really did not mean it. Instead we ended up with 2 space coffins poluting the space. C est la vie... ;)

Couldn't agree more. That's the very reason the Imperial Courier is my ship of choice since it's release. Before that, I was mainly flying the Clipper, since it combined the fun of nimble small ships (very agile for its size!) and the performance of big ships very nicely!

But if I had to choose, I'd take "fun" over "credit making" every time in a game! (it's not really like money is an issue or anywhere near "difficult" in the game, so there is enough room to for other criteria when choosing a ship, IMHO.)

You need to practice some maneuvers my friend. And I do highly recommend the Vulture. I do not get borded of it, but I often switch to my Cobra or Scout from time to time but when there are combat there is Vultures. Everytime I decide to bounty hunt or do some assasination missions or whatever my Vulture is first on the line and backs for nothing. It do give back some old days feel from the smaller ships. It is limited in power but some smart management and you'll be fine.

But I like the small ships. I always have a sidewinder handy and fully upgraded. I have a small smuggler. The sidewinder has always been a favorite because the canopy is so damn good looking. Really love it so it's always cozy to fly around, zipping around larger ships and stations.

An Imperial Courier...

probably very true if you are much into combat or bunty hunting, definetly not true if you are into the whole of mission gameplay... but i like my courier a lot, too because if kept lightweight it resembles an eagle while having firepower.

I own an anaconda, but regularly fly around in my DBS. I use smaller ships often, but also love my anaconda.
