Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

Hey guys

As many of you may know we now have an in game faction , we are based in Fuelum and are called The Fuel Rats Mischief. So on to my main reason for posting. If you wish to partake in trying to expand our faction in our system, or help out our faction in general a bulletin board for effecting the background simulation can be found on our website by clicking the bulletin board tab or just click the link below.

We are currently trying to strengthen our hold on our home system by instigating a civil war with New Fuelum Future, we are doing this by increasing their influence in our system. More details of current tasks available can be found on the bulletin board.

I'm pretty good with the background simulation logic and was wondering if you were manipulating the other faction but didn't want to mess it up. Looking forward to capturing the other stations.
Everyone keep an eye out for combat zones popping up soon.

So, I did some number crunching on 200 Fuel Rat rescues to see how the Mischief is doing on efficiency, and I thought I'd share some of the data points gleaned from it.

Median rescue time: 11 minutes 30 seconds
Median rescue time on 'perfect procedure': 7 minutes
Median rescue time on Code Red cases: 17 minutes

Average rats per deployment:
2
Average rats per Code Red deployment: 3
Average jump count: 5

Out of the sample, 22 rescues were 'perfect procedure', the criteria of which are as follows:
* Client gives information on system, platform and O2 status on first contact
* No instancing problems occur
* No ship changes, rearming or extraordinary measures are done by the rats en route

On average, Dispatch uses 2 minutes to collect needed information and dispatch rats towards clients that do not provide the needed information on login.
The average time for Dispatch to have rats on the way for 'perfect procedure' cases is approximately 1 minute. (I lack resolution for better information here, as my IRC client only logs to nearest minute, not seconds)

The sample includes only successful rescues. In the same time period as the sample was taken, 11 clients called for fuel rat help that were not successfully rescued. 5 of those blew up due to O2 running out. 2 clients dropped off IRC and were never heard from again. 1 decided to selfdestruct (Stock Sidewinder). 3 clients made it on their own.

In short - if you run out of fuel, call the Fuel Rats. If you do everything right, you'll probably be on your merry way in about 15 minutes.

We got fuel.
You don't.
Any questions?

I'm guessing the median for CR cases are due to needing to get everything in place before client logs back in and the rescue can begin.

Also I REALLY should write down the deepspace rescue I did last week. Will get some pictures together later tonight and write down the story :)

Ok so I bagged my first rescue in months tonight after my long stay planetside, living it up in the federation medical facility back home in Sol. The place was pleasent enough but the lure of the black is too temping to keep me grounded. Easing myself back into the chair I decided that a cosy clipper and a few trucking runs would see me through. Fair enough the credits were good but it all seemed so shallow after the umpteenth docking proceedure and cargo transfer. I miss my DBX I found myself whispering in the dark of night as I looked out over the docking bay at Wollenheim, shot in hand, while catching the sadness in my eyes in the reflection on the glass a few feet from my face.

'The clipper's a fine ship' I thought, trying to convince myself I needed a great whale of a ship to peddle wares. 'It doesn't feel like home though.' The glass went down on the table like a judges gavel and off I marched down to the outfitting bay and shipyard. An hour later and I'm laid under a DBX knocking in the last upgrade and juggling the power systems, trying to get too many modules running off too few megawatts.'Damn class 4 powerplant' I said to myself, throwing down a rather large spanner and rubbing the grease from my hands with on old oily rag. It's harder to juggle your assets in one of these but it can jump like a kangeroo skiing on zebadee's if you get the modules right! The clipper always seemed more like red riding hood skipping to grandmas in that respect. Great for short runs but come across a river and it's cold jam tarts and granny in a can of wolf meat.

Ok so I've got the DBX 90% how I want it when the Ratsignal clashes against my listeners like a pair of cymbals. Alrai sector, not far, 5 jumps in the DBX as she sits. 'I'm on it' I shout at Fuel Rat dispatch and get the old girl airbourne. I run the slot at nigh on 200kph and soon I'm spooling up for the first jump to hyperspace. 1st jump in and the fuel scoop starts to rip particles of excited hydrogen from the stars flares.

The next one is a different story, 2 jumps in and it's un-scoopables all the way. The Diamondbacks tank is plenty big enough to cope though and she pushes on, relentless. I 'm 2 jumps out and still no friend request from the client when suddenly I get the blue comms signal. I accept as I try to avoid the star on hyperspace drop out. I connect and then almost immediately lose the clients friendship again just as I begin the jump to the next system. 'I've lost FR' I tell dispatch.

I leave the pipe skimming another un-scoopable and tell dispatch I'm one jump out and still no FR. The engine starts to spool, ship creaking to life as a blue comms drops in just as I make the shift to hyperdrive. I sit staring at the blue number 1 as witchspace rushes at me like the universe is trying to keep me away by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at my face. The fabric of space time somehow manages to miss me with everything except a firey ball of hydrogen powered nuclear fusion that fills my eyeballs and stops. I've arrived. I accept the friend request and ask to be winged. Cruising the star I wait patently, observing the un-scoopable as a wing invite followed by a beacon comes through. It's text book. I lock my nav system to my client and drop out to find nothing. I shrug, I spool, I jump back to SC. The beacon is still active and I try to lock it again. Blue energy seems to take an eternity to fade and then nothing. 'God damn nav system!' I shout to myself. Knowing that in space no-one can here you scream.

I decided that the way to tackle this was to meet the client in supercruise and let him drag me into normal space with him. It goes without a hitch and I find myself barreling towards the clients Viper at a crazy rate of knots. Reverse thrust stops me just short and a burst of downward RCS lets me miss him. That was close. I back off below him and switch to limpets. 'Ok lets get back in the saddle' I say to myself squeezing the trigger. I fill him not with fuel but instead with the life sapping energy of class 3 beam laser. Ouch. " Sorry" I type as the Viper's shields ripple with laser fire.

What in gods name happened there? I look over to my modules and in my haste it seems that the computer had taken the limpets offline in order to power the lasers that I didn't need right then. 'Very professional!' A bit of power management and the limpets went on their merry way. 3 tons later and the Viper was off out of system, carving out adventure and writing stories of its own. Me? I'm heading back to Wollenheim to wonder if I should pack a burst laser instead!

For love the of God. Paragraphs.

;)

Apologies, I wrote that on my phone in bed in the middle of the night. not easy to set out paragraphs in those conditions! Now edited!

Not only did you refuel him, you warmed him up!!!
Service "above and beyond expectations"!

I salute you,
Badger

Indeed, those Vipers attract laser fire, even when trying to help one you can't help taking a pop!

Just wanted to nip in here and say that I finally got my new, GTX970 powered PC up and running this morning so I should be back in action as soon as I've picked myself up off the floor ...

Ultra settings, 60fps+ at 1920x1080 where I'm used to Low settings, 20fps at 1024x768 ... O M F G

Nice isn't it. After I got the pc shown in my sig I literally spent a week doing nothing except installing Skyrim mods and being amazed...

I still enjoy getting a new game and just throwing all the settings up to maximum without having to think "Will this actually run?" :D

Now I want to buy one of these babies.

Still looking like another 3 to 4 weeks I'll be out of action till I get my new PC Budgeted and Assembled.

Keep being awesome, Rats!
I'll see you all in the Space Lanes again soon

The ongoing saga of instancing...

Is it just me or is instancing issues between those of us in the South Pacific (Australia, NZ etc) and the rest of the world gotten a lot worse recently? Anyway, I've pretty much given up on putting my hand up for rescues as I can never see the client and vice versa, until the issue is explained and sorted.

If there is a problem with an Aus/NZ client I am happy to help out, just ping me in-game or in #ratchat.

I have submitted a ticket to FD and also posted a stern note on the FD bug thread here.

Perhaps if other rats also complain we might get some more attention? As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the oil [pun intended].

Ok, storytime :D

Stardate 17.11.3301

As usually I keep my eye on our IRC channel, to keep tabs on what's happening. Usually there are a few rescues every now and then (more often then not nothing happens for 2 hours, then BAM 3 rescues at the same time) but nothing major outside that.
Then suddenly, in ticks a signal from a friend of the stranded client. The client was stranded 3600ly out from SOL in his Anaconda, after experiencing the relog-eat-fuel bug he had to little fuel to get to the closest scoopable star.
ZjXvrWT.png

Dispatch was looking for some more rats to go into deepspace. And with that I notified dispatch that I was logging in and heading out. I wasn't the only rat one the case, and the other rat was not to far in front of me.
This was going to be my first real trip outside the bubble, and it was going to take me on a long journey, both in time and distance. I found a star in the correct direction just under 1kly from my location and prepared myself for the long trip ahead of me.

To shorten the time I got invited to the clients TS server, and together with his clan mates the time flew by. As I reached the boundaries of the bubble I decided to turn on my stream and stream the whole rescue, this was going to be a long one so why not. It was also a nice way for me to record everything, so that I could edit it at a later time.

Scoopable stars came and went, I often checked and double checked my map to be sure that I got to a scoopable star before I ran dry, so that I didn't strand myself. This ment that I sometimes had to deviate a bit from the plotted course, but I kept flying towards the target.
bRMoUnP.png

Almost halfway through I got info that the other rat had gotten to close to a star and lost all his limpets, and the rat in question was now on his way back to civilization, I was now on my own.
For each jump I got closer to the target, but also closer to running out of fuel. It's nice to be able to jump 30ly or so each jump, to bad that I only had a 3A scoop on my ASP (changed that asap when i got back) so each refueling took it's time. So it took a good 3 hours before I reached the client. But I saw lots of stars on my way and got a ton of scanned data.
The closer I got the more excited I got, and was a real boost when I could plot a course directly to the system the client was stranded in.

And as I reached the system, jumped to the client and sent a limpet on it's way, the best feeling in the world rolled over me, and I really got to experience the feeling of what it ment to be a fuelrat.
0ZGEpfy.png

And as the refueling was done, my 3 hour returntrip back home to the bubble began. Was it worth the trip? Very much so. Could I have done it faster? YES, a 5A scoop would have shorten the time considerably. But oh well, I guess one learns new stuff each day and mission.

What was I left with after more then 7 hours in the chair? A crapton of scanned data, having my name on one star, experience on deepspace rescue, knowledge on module outfitting of my ship and last but not least one of the best feelings in the world. The feeling of saving someone hoplessly stranded far far away from any populated system.

I also got a mention on their site :D http://triadius.net/2015/11/17/cmdr-nebrok-sallad-saved-by-the-fuel-rats/

Hopefully there will be a video before christmas, but I won't promise anything.

CMDR borbra out o7
