Ok i have created a new monster.
the new fiction can be found on the roleplay and lore thread i will keep posting my regular fuel rat tales here but the more expansive lore will be posted on the new thread.

The Prospectors of the Distant World expedition are in urgent need of a logo for Saturday, and would like to know whether we could adapt your logo. It would be the same except removing the fuel hose and replacing it with a pickaxe. Possibly add a rock or two. And of course changing the name.
If there are no objections to this, do you have the original (presumably vector) version of the logo?

i don't see any problem with this. Just ensure you dont go using that logo for evil deeds or the disciplinary trouts may come out for some slapping lol

I gave the logo to the fuel rats so there'd be no copyright or permission nonsense needed from me.. the fuel rats own the logo. youd need to ask the head fuel rat surly badge.
if hes cool with similar stuff for cake rats.. rock rats.. rat rats.. then cool.. go for it.. or pm me and I can make something. but only if its ok with the head rat.
EDIT:-I actually think it probably needs to be revamped.. and father cool looks like the best guy for the job.. I never liked the diy style font it has.. and its got too many greys in it really. and the helmet never worked as I wanted it too..
but then im never happy with my art.. the conversion from mind to image never goes as expected.
ive been thinking about building a 3d version.. just need to get around to it.
EDIT :- ill try and get started on it actually ... this has reminded me and rig it up for a hero pose. I don't have work on atm.

Well! And now after showing my mock-up so far to the Rock Rats they've decided it's too similar to the Fuel Rats logo and they don't want to go down this route after all.

Hey good folks. Quick update from me:
I'm back out of cryosleep having got Internet in my new house and have been getting myself back up to date. I now have a 8-5 job (uk time) but will assist where I can. I'm still on my XXL exploration trip so for any long-range give me a shout, I'm currently at the Skull and Crossbones Nebula and don't expect to travel very far anytime soon but I'm willing to make a long distance run to save someone (28 limpets stocked currently).
Keep being awesome as always, love the new t-shirts and patches!

Cheers for the recommendation Robinjb. I am only too happy to help out should the call come my way. I am personally going to use the new roundel that I did for the merit badges as my FR logo but if the group is interested in a revamped version of the old logo I'd be happy to help. I think the little guy has become somewhat of an icon in the Elite universe.

I'm totally OK with you guys hacking on it. I don't think I have a vector version; the highest resolution version I have is on our website (follow the link off "propaganda" where it leads to web site decorators, etc)
A couple thoughts:
- There is a term I have heard in the US called a "rock hound" - because of the dog-like way that people collecting amber, gold, geological samples, etc, kind of snuffle along like bloodhounds staring at the ground. Since "rock hound" is in common use it might resonate better than "rock rat" but that's entirely up to you. I chose the "rat" part of it to imply that we're maybe sliiiiightly inclined to put the squeeze on a customer.
- Rock Rats: We have rocks, you don't. Any Questions -- that totally does not work. You'll need another catchphrase.
- Father Cool is potentially susceptible to bribes. I can't put a price on him, though.
- I do think the fuel rat with the bubble helmet is absolutely adorable. I can see him with a pick.
If I were you my concern would be that "rock rats" is going to sound too immediately derivative of the Fuel Rats. I'd be concerned that enquiries about my organization might get directed at Fuel Rats and there might be confusion. I wouldn't be super duper concerned, but making an apparent connection between our organizations is going to imply stuff that you might get tired of answering over time.
Other than that, I'm honored that our logotage, name, attitude, etc, are worth emulating!! As a very serious miner in Elite, I might try to achieve double-rat status.

I think you are doing yourself unjust there. The Fuel Rat logo is ABSOLUTELY adorable. It is a great concept, it has style and humour, in fact, is was one of the reasons why my attention got drawn to the Rats in 3301. I absolutely love it. Period.
And something that is not perfect ... is character. Perfection is boring.
As for Father Cools roundel, that is the just the other part of the pair from a honour badge and vector graphics point of view. So both designs are somewhat made for each other
Oh indeed, pleeeease! Would be the first time I would spend money on something like this, but i would love it see rocking every time I log in ... totally worth it. ^,^

I agree, the logo is terrific! A famous artist once said (and apologies but I forget who exactly) "art is working on something until you like it ... AND THEN LEAVING IT" (or something like that).
