Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

The Second Episode of Fuel Rats Radio Show is up!

Best way to access it is through here http://www.fuelrats.com/frr-content/

This time the tunes are pretty chill-out (except for the infamous Crew Cut) and the talk is mostly about rats themselves.

DerryBear profile – Orange exploration – Crew Cut (by Melon Colin) – Alotta speed – NoLifeKing profile – Derry’s Bulletin

Especially check out the Bulletin section over at the end. Important stuff there, and available only to the most dedicated listener!

Next one will hopefully be up in two weeks. For that I would like to point out couple things you can do to participate:

Firstly, we have a thread on Reddit where you can submit highlights (epic or otherwise cool) as they happen! These will be discussed and hyped about on the following radio shows.

Secondly, if you have ideas for good content, want to give shoutouts for rats, get your voice and/or ideas on air, or just like to talk about the weather, then gimme a PM and we'll work it out. Everyone's accepted!

Thirdly, give feedback anyways! Good, bad, positives, neutrals. I can deal with them all. (The show could also have a meta-level feedback segment.)

The show can be what ever fuelrats want it to be! I merely vocalized the idea and got the boat rolling, so don't be afraid to hop in! Ain't no rocks in sight just yet!

Bobbleheads

Custom bobbleheads appear to be about $17 apiece in quant suff. I think this warrants further investigation. Our budget looks like it's in the black right now but that's because I ordered more Tshirts and haven't updated the balance.
I will investigate.

Me investigating usually results in something happening.

Currently there is about an 80% chance I will try to attend lavecon, which would mean that I could bring a box of Fuel Rat Loot and throw it around maniacally.

Administrivia: I've been travelling a lot the last few weeks so I am a bit behind on the store/budget. I'm also a bit demoralized by the awareness that google docs is going to crap out on us there, too. When I get home I will start formulating a plan to move all such things to a database.

I agree, the logo is terrific! A famous artist once said (and apologies but I forget who exactly) "art is working on something until you like it ... AND THEN LEAVING IT" (or something like that).

Edit: possibly Fred Babb

yeah I mean.. I did just mention I didn't like the font and there was too many greys.. I wouldn't have sent it to the rats if I thought it was crap. just thinking about a revamp.. not changing the character.. though you now have two rat characters in the livery. the one I did and the one fcool did.. for me brand consistency is the trick. not mixing fonts etc. the revamp I have in mind would tie the two together better. anyway nothings going to go ahead without surly B oking it.
I'm building the character in 3d to see what better poses I can get out of him..( should be done in a few days )

still needs some work, and im not sure about the colours yet, but another few hours itll be better.. then ill bone him an pose him up
looking at your artist quote on leaving it when you like it.. sounds like one of those fine artists where the message is more important than the art.. for me thats wrong. look at the state of his art.. the font is all over the place.. the colours are pale and wishy-washy.. those eyes are terrible.. hes crap. ;) ( that's a cheeky wink to indicate im joking just in case, I understand what your saying , arts v subjective)

Hi guys. I would like to sign up for the Fuel Rats team. It looks like a ton of fun. I've read "How to Rat" and "Fuel Rats Procedures". Is there anything more I need to do beyond submitting the application?

Nope, join us in #Ratchat and submit the application :)

Wallet on standby for the long overdue buying of ones drink!

P.S. I'm still considering getting a batch of fuel rat beermats made for the show. Currently awaiting confirmation from the organisers on whether the hotel will permit their distribution around the bar area.

Hmmm. Things sure have changed. Back in my youth and when I did drink we used to remove beermats, not leave more behind. :S;):D

Is it wrong that I don't like the idea for stories or states but because helping? I know I don't have any rescues.. but I will.

Not at all Mouse. It's how most of us started. My first story was written after someone said that a long range rescue I took part in should be written up. So I did and well I just haven't been able to stop. Oh the shame....

:D

Boss, I really wouldn't spend any snickers worry about Google docs right now. From June 15 - Jan 16 we only used about 27,000 cells on the main sheet with probably another 15,000 on the other sheets out of our 2mil available. Now that I've reduced the unused (but allocated) rows/columns on each sheet, we should have enough for a couple years more of data; plenty of time for Trezy and Team to finish the API/database.

Well now that's an impressive wheel of cheese with bacon filling in my book! Could even be an idea to submit such a 3d model to frontier if they can make a in-game Bobblehead. Might not be compatible with their software yet may save them enough work to actually consider it. At least it shows them dedication.

"All stories are worth telling"
I think it's embedded in the idea of a 'story', really. All you have to do is convey whatever it was that interested you in something, into the story.

One of my favorite books* is about the battle of Jutland, broken down in insane detail of which shell hit what ship, at what angle, and what it did. It's an insane amount of detail, yet raises the question of "what is narrative" or even "what is interesting?"

I am pretty sure that the inner monologue of a Fuel Rat, told as they jumped to rescue someone, might be interesting. Assuming it wasn't just "pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza jump snickers bars jump jump jump pizza"

(* conceptually)

Looks good. What software do you use out of curiosity?

I like how he sports the new roundel on his chestplate!

I pretty much use 3d studio if I want to do something quick and good. but im licensed for 3ds and maya. maya takes me ages to model in, im more used to 3ds
all the 2d stuff I do, like the original logo is done in 3ds, so 2.5d im just extruding splines. so its part vector.. but not in any way I can easily save out a .ai file or some such vector format.
ill try and get a version into a unity player for a 3d turnabout. but im using ink and paint materials so I don't have to spend time texturing it. I may have to fudge it with self illumination.
I had an idea to do a whole bunch of them playing cards or something at the base.. then springing into action for the rat signal.. but it'd take frikkin ages to do. ;( so ill just do some pics.

I'd love for the tail to become the pump !
now your just being silly ;) the tails the tail man.. the pumps integrated into the suit.. and the hose goes to a small tank on the back inbetween the o2 tanks..any thing else would crazy wouldn't it.. these guys exist!
