Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

do tell the experience so we can all learn from it, plus points, negative points etc

Pretty straight forward, once I got off a telephone call and could concentrate. Main things I learnt:

Having the nearby system as public info worked well, with in game chat to get the actual location
Get to know how wings work - I have only winged up once before when 1.2 released, so was out of practice (contacts panel lets you lock to the wing beacon - I took a moment to work that out)
Be doubly sure you select the right fire group to launch the limpets - I can see accidents happening with this - probably best not to be packing plasma accelerators just in case ;)

And I confirmed that you don't need to open the cargo hatch to transfer fuel, so we can rescue people who are completely out of fuel and power.

Might be an idea to prevent accidents make sure that your fire button doesn't deploy hard points automatically.

What CMDR gets the score on the leaderboard?

LOL! Especially with "fire at will" turrets and a customer from the wrong faction or a wanted sticker. No sense triggering "unnecessary maximum drama"

or we create a safety checklist:

1. stow all hard points.
2. turn off power to weapons systems.
3. ensure all shields are fully charged.
4. extinguish all naked flames.
5. begin refuel process.
6. smile.
7. remain in contact with the stranded at all times so they don't go into shock.
8. once complete re-apply power to weapons systems.
9. enjoy the applause and gratitude from the rescued and your fellow fuel rats.

I wasn't going to go but realised that it was at my end of the bubble, only 100 ly away, so thought I would head over to watch your back if it was a trap and have some extra limpets on hand if required...and nip in to take the glory if you were snoozing ;)

This is awesomeness guys! Congrats to CMDR Rusticolus!

Is it wrong of me of hoping that there are many other "unfortunate" CMDR's out there just waiting to be rescued?

No, we're all starved for content too, if all we can do is make our own, we get a little excited when a call comes in.

THE FUEL RATS

Hello Commanders,

Ever gone out for a leisurely flight around your local area, or took a family trip to the Horsehead Nebula, or even went for a race to Sag A*, but halfway there you ran out of fuel.

What option do you have, well you could set up home where you are and hope that a passer by might give you a nudge so you can drift to a station, or you could hit that big red button and quickly get into your escape pod then loose all your lovely cartography data.

well, no more:

If you are in trouble,
and your in the middle of nowhere,
who you going to call,
THE FUEL RATS.

We are a rough, tough bunch of Commanders with a lot of fuel to give. when you have that brain fart error of no fuel, give is a call and we will come running with a can of lovely jump juice and pat you on the head and send you on your way. We don't ask for credits, we don't ask for cargo, all we ask is for a big thank you and a smile.

Don't hit that big red button, we are only a call away.

I can see what you mean though, i must press th refresh button every 5 mins hoping for another call. it goes to show, 2 in less than 24 hours and we have only just started this outfit, how many people self destructed before 1.3.

I have put a post in the Dangerous Discussions area as an advert. please go on it and give it a discreet bump to keep it active.

I'm currently 17kly out from SOL, near the BOEPP AA-A H83 nebula. This morning, due to a fairly serious daydreaming incident, I ran lower on fuel than I'm normally comfortable with. I'm curious, had the unthinkable happened, would anyone have volunteered to come to the rescue? :D

well it would of given me a reason to go back out, currently im flying about in a vulture shooting things, getting rather bored, but when i think of going back out on another expedition i just cant seem to get the uumph to do it, so for me, probably would yes. it would take a few days but i would go.

I love this. :D

Heard the ad on Radio Sidewinder yesterday.

Ha! Easy peasy, that's nothing. I'm more afraid of CMDR's such as The Great Erimus, being stuck 64,000LY away... Now that's a challenge!

(No I did not mean for someone to actually do it as a cruel joke)

Depends how much palladium you would leave behind a quiet moon in HIP 1427 when you got back ;)

Seriously though, I would have considered coming out for free, having done exactly that myself...
