Just saying..

A choice that should be up to each rat. A little heads up in yesterdays case would have been better, but we are dealing with pirates here.

Huge round of applause for Muffindrake. Nice job mate.

Rat-gargantuan-post

- New chat up: Excellent.

- Dispatch: Awesome.

- Rules to work with:
People are different. I have a somewhat autocratic mindset to the dispatch and when someone calls for help. Not everyone likes this, and that is OK (I shall whip you all into submission with my long tail later).

My opinion is that the dispatch should be able to "have" the room while someone calls for help. This being done by setting the chat to moderator-text only allowed. This will allow the dispatch and the customer to talk freely and uninterrupted, while everybody else sees and gets the information they need.
In other words - less distortion and chaos in the initial phase.
Once CMDR name, location and any necessary extra information is given (ie. having 1 min of life support left), the chat returns to normal, and everyone can speak freely.
In a perfect world the chat would be locked for no longer than 1 minute. And given that someone has to fire up the game/get into the CMDR chair/put on Pilot glasses etc, this means that we are cutting corners, thus saving time for the customer and the rats.
Once the CMDR is in his chair he only has to copy/paste the CMDR name and system from chat into his ship and:
1. Say "I got it" - Hence giving his/her intention to help
2. Say nothing. - Hence not spamming unneccesary ratcrap when someone is in need.

Once this is done anarchy and the eternal mockery of cheese-sizes may continue, and everybody is happy.

- Pirates: I'm not a fan. No further comment.

- This service in general: Much cooler than ganking and bothering other players. I'm a carebear, and proud of it :D

Keep running Rats!

Aye but you're my carebear. I definitely agree that if we have a dispatch they need to have clear communications with the person in need of rescue. I don't think moderator only chat is necessary as most of us are able to be quiet when needed :p

I have to respectfully disagree with setting the room to moderator-only chat. The Dispatch role exists to ease communication and remove confusion for the client, muting the room upon arrival of a client is an unnecessary layer of fluff, especially since we have proven to be capable of using Dispatch without muting the room.

Speaking from personal experience, [admin'ing a respectfully active chat for quite a few years], muting the room only causes confusion. We can't expect people who join to be familiar with how IRC works, or how Mibbit works.

Hi me rats!!

been very busy and stuff at work.. havent read all the action lately but seems is been a lot!! congrats!!

Just wanted to share this very quick that I found out:

When you are in normal space, and waiting for the rat -even when you are not moving you will keep consuming fuel- but if yougo to th eleft panel and turn your Thrusters off, then you will kill any fuel consumption.

doing that should be added to the basic manual for rescuee as it prevents the life support to ever come up.

Just a thought that you probably knew already but hey! better safe than sorry!

safe travels CMDRS!

So, that is an open question for the group: Should our default response to the unexpected be to role-play? Or should we break character and deal with game-play as game-play. Or should we leave it up to individual CMDRs at the time?
King Rat: well said
Chat ideas: I do agree with Anura's focus on clear, concise communication improving service for the client, however muting the chat seems a bit too much. With the addition of King Rat's upcoming RATTING 101, future rats will understand the basic guidelines of what to do when Dispatch starts talking to a client in the Channel. We bite our tails and standby for words.
Ratting 101: I do look forward to your post on this and will PM you profusely.
RolePlay: In the spirit of our anarchic organization, I say let the CMDR flow with it. That includes if other rats want to go attack the "cats" if they trap a rat. Or if one of our rats wants to exploit a client after getting them on their way.
.
And in the spirit of Leslie Nielson quotes: "It's true what they say: Cops and women don't mix. It's like eating a spoonful of Drano; sure, it'll clean you out, but it'll leave you hollow inside."

Hello Rats..
Here's a transcript of the News Report regarding the unfortunate run in Rats Chance and Domaq had with a bunch of Undesirables.

A disturbing sequence of events unfolded in Core Sys Sector AB-0 A6-3 recently.
Commanders Chance and Domaq of the Volunteer Rescue Fleet known as 'The Fuel Rats' were responding to a distress call from a stranded Commander, and were swiftly taken hostage in an ambush orchestrated by the pirate organisation 'The CODE'

A ransom demand of 200 tons of Palladium was issued to President Zachery Hudson and his supporters to ensure the timely and safe release of the captives.
Despite a last ditch valliant rescue effort by a wing of Independant Commanders. Both CMDR Chance, and CMDR Domaq were executed in the resulting fire fight.
Along with the total destruction of all potential rescuers.

A statement issued by a spokesperson of 'The Fuel Rats' said:
"Today, two Rats were attacked while attempting to deliver fuel for a rescue. We all knew that something like this could happen."
Going Further to say:
"The pirates' demand was 200t of palladium. Our counter-offer that we'd take them back if they gave us 100t of gold and 3 Snickers Bars was not accepted."

No comment as yet has been obtained from 'The CODE'.

In regards to the matters of Chats, Rats, This and That.
* Dispatch: Great idea, Everybody can see the chat, so It's 1 question, 1 answer, and we all get the same information.
* Mod Muting during Call Out: I'd like to think that Rats being the intelligent beings they are know when to be quiet and respectful, especially when there's a job to do.
But if it comes to it, it should be something considered on a case by case basis.
* Rat Response when Confronted: Up to the individual Rat. Fight, Flight, Negotiate.. While I don't condone "Combat Logging" personally. It is ultimately some one else's decision to make in the end.
* Mandatory Leslie Nielsen Quote: "Well, when I see five weirdos, dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the s, that’s *my* policy!" (In relation to Hostage Situations: I don't negotiate with terrorists)

With the addition of King Rat's upcoming RATTING 101, future rats will understand the basic guidelines of what to do when Dispatch starts talking to a client in the Channel. We bite our tails and standby for words.

I think common sense in the ratchat channel alone should take care of this -- although I have found myself typing an off-topic line into the middle of a ratsignal request. They come in so fast sometimes you might already be typing something out before the emergency request came in.

I don't know how the admining IRC works, but could some CMDR who is just being clueless in the chat channel be individually "shooshed" if necessary? The potential problem I see w/ a lockout is if another rescue request is trying to come in. A minute or two is pretty long in internet time so that CMDR in need might just think the chat is broken if he can't get his request to post. Or do they get some kind of "please stand by" message?

Awesome, Ceska!

Having had problems with instances in the past, this one went smooth.
