Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

Xbox One user here. And whiling to serve the "LHS 3447" system/sector surrounding area.

P.S. If accepted, I would need someone to tell me/guide me on what ship I need, what parts I need in that ship in order refuel users and how to become part someones wing on Xbox One.

Thanks,

azgoodaz

Me and Cowbelle are trying our best to make the subreddit awesome. Be sure to subscribe to it. :)

I'm going to post this publicly since it may be useful to others. Normally I'd PM you. But in case I get hit by a bus or a sub, this is what I tell newly recruited Fuel Rats:

Welcome to the Fuel Rats!
You should begin by reviewing the "How to Rat" suggestions over at the Rat Cave. There is also Rescue Procedures work-flow that explains who does what and in what sequence in order to do a rescue. The "How to Rat" document includes a list of the minimum items you need to pack into your ship in order to rescue someone. It also describes how to use #RatChat, our IRC channel where the Rat Dispatcher coordinates rescue efforts. Last but not least, please feel free to publish win/loss reports, opinions, or commentary in the forum either on FD or Reddit.

...but only one woman could win...

A woman?

*Draws deeply upon his cigar, bushy eyebrows convulsing like a tickled hairy-thing. He reaches out a shaky liver-spotted hand, grasping the leather chair for support. His other hand reaches for a snifter of brandy, which he downs in one gulp. The fumes of the alcohol mix with those of the leaf, settling his mind*

A woman? Well, who'd have thought...

Good show!

We should do a flowchart.

Location: ICZ MN-T C3-22
Imperilled vessel: Sidewinder
Fuel Rats: Imperator (Rescuer), Cpt_Shinobi
Outcome: Success!

Excellent work!!

Uh, did someone post somewhere that we're having a sale on sidewinder rescues? (grumbles) Those sidey pilots never have anything valuable...

We should do a flowchart.

That would be funny, especially if there were branches that led to "Panic" and "Total Panic" and perhaps "Meltdown" :) I did one a long time ago in a galaxy far away but I don't have the patience to do such a thing now. It'd make an awesome Tshirt, printed upside down so the Fuel Rat could just look down at their shirt and go, "Ah! It says that now I am supposed to .. eat a donut. Oh, no, wait, that's just a crumb..."

Thanks, and yeah. I just joined in the IRC channel, and I'll be sure to let the dispatcher know. I will also be outfitting my ship with the limpets and gear that I need for the journey's. :)

Welcome to the asylum my friend, the inmates have taken over.

Kiss goodbye to your sanity, and say hello to Glory!

Busy day for the Rats.

Anaconda in Trianguli Sector JH-U A3-4 by Aitken.

Even when in a Conda it still made me "gulp" when I saw that one.

:D

Two rescues tonight -- both in under 15 minutes.

1.) CMDR Halfus rescued by CMDR Anuranium in 70 Ophiuchi. CMDR Lavo flew out as well for the potential glory.

2.) CMDR MaxRizk (ha, just the name, lol :D ) rescued by Aitken in Trianguli Sector JH-U A3-4. CMDR Lavo and CMDR b0rg9 flew out as well for cheese/snickers, er, glory.

What is needed for refueling? Might be a silly Q, but how the hell can you run out of fuel if you just scoop at every sun?

Sometimes people are jumping with their tanks low and jump away from attackers "random jump" and drain their tanks and wind up in a T-tauri. Other times, you just get distracted. I'd guess that most of our rescues are newer players that run into a string of T-tauris.

I was so wrapped up watching a rescue in #RatChat that I almost ran my tanks dry the other night. It happens. :) My first ship loss was the time I almost made it to Hutton Orbital. I was 10 seconds away when the engines cut off.

Edit: To refuel you need limpets (buy under munitions) and a refuel limpet controller (get the smallest cheapest one) More details are here.
T-Tauri stars are unscoopable. There are regions of space where they are quite plentiful, so players who are used to jumping without scooping every jump sometimes have a nasty surprise. My Python isn't a great long-jumper and I nearly had to raise the ratsignal sunday when I hit a string of T-tauris out in SWIOWNS sector.

My network of spies tell me that was an Anaconda!! Very impressive; you saved someone a very expensive insurance bill.

I daydream about rescuing an aging merchant in a T-9 who has a beautiful daughter...
... I'd sure love to have the T-9.

Distress signal received from dispatch from /r/elitetankers
Dispatched to Location: Pegasi Sector CB-N B7-5
Stranded vessel: Lakon Type 6

CMDR was a rookie trader who had jumped one too many times rolling the dice on making it to his destination and hoping for a station to fill up.

CONTINUED galactic mapping issues put me about 200 ly off course to his final destination but thankfully the CMDR called us with plenty of time to spare.

The rest of the rescue was uneventful, flew them on in to Candra for a full refuel.

*thumbs up*

A T-Tauri is a type of star common in populated space that is unscoopable. Almost half of the types of stars out there are un-scoopable.

It is possible to hit an un-scoopable star several jumps in a row because people don't know they can filter out star types in the map.

It doesn't help for beginners that there's that moderately thick plane of stars about 20-30 LY below Sol that runs right through inhabited space - and beyond - which is almost entirely brown dwarfs with the occasional T-Tauri, and very rare scoopable catalogue stars. If you land in that then jump horizontally, you can probably cross from one end of the bubble to the other without seeing a scoopable. Once you know it's there it's not dangerous at all, of course.

How to join you guys? I do have an SAR ship, an Anaconda ready for some action. I just yesterday helped a fellow cmdr that had run out of fuel im his Vulture.

Hello Backwood666, please PM Surly_Badger that you would like to join and he will respond. You can pop into our irc chat so we can get to know you and we coordinate our activity in the irc channel as well. The channel details can be found from the Fuel Rats webpage: http://www.ranum.com/fuelrats/

Fly safe Commander,

RalfGabriel

basically get fitted to do refuel missions, come join us in the IRC and/or IM Surly Badger. There's no entry fee, if you bring booze, snickers bars, coffee or pizza to rat HQ that would be well received.

One other thing about T-Tauri, they can be wretched deceivers; the yellow ones look enough like scoopable stars that they lull you into a false sense of security; they've almost caught me out.

KGB FOAM...

Fuelrat report: Cpt_Shinobi

At 6:19 Galactic time; Cmdr Sevirin broadcasted on the Fuelrat emergency frequency that he had become stranded in Tascgeter Sector xz-P A5-0. I took the call and the operation went off without any trouble as Cmdr Sevirin was knowledged in Wing operation and no trans-dimentional distortions were encountered. The Cmdr's cobra was refueled by 6:29.
