Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

Rat relevant thread ...

Let me know if my comment is inaccurate in any way.
Good stuff. I added a few more details for the OP on how to avoid this in the future.

Aha! That's more like it, back to the old days of every Rat for himself. None of this modern thinking of 'you answered first in IRC, I'll politely wait for you to arrive and fire the first limpet' ;)

Seriously though, I am beginning to wonder if proximity to a planetary body causes more instancing and drop-location related problems. Maybe this requires more Science...

That seems to be the cased based on Operation: Black Hoooole where they had weird instancing near that stellar body as well...Where's my tin hat?

With so many Rats sitting in the Michief now, it is rare for us oldies to make it to a site first.

Determined to show the younglings how its done, I have deployed my alter-ego, Richard Lemon Lander, in a basic Hauler with a 17.8LY jump range :D

FUEL RAT REPORT: 21 July 3301
Location: LHS 3447
Customer: Viper (I think...)
Fuel transferred: 3t
Notes: First rescue for Richard Lemon Lander, maybe first rescue using a Hauler (a cheap one too)?

The Ratsignal went up and I responded straight away. Unfortunately the stranded CMDR did not respond to my friend request, although I had arrived in the same system. CMDR PBz_Charlie was also inbound and had already established comms and wing, so invited me in.

It turns out the fueless CMDR was on emergency oxygen, so I threw first responder protocol out of the air lock and raced straight in to deliver fuel with out any problems. Sorry PBz_Charlie - I only poached this one as he was on emergency air.

FUEL RAT REPORT: 22 July 3301
Location: TASCHETER SECTOR AG-0 A6-1
Customer: Lakon T6 (Trader)
Fuel transferred: 3t
Notes: Set off as back up, ended up first on the scene

The Ratsignal went up and I was nowhere near my ship. After jumping in, powering on, looking at the Rat Cave comms and seeing other CMDRs already on route with only 4 jumps, I almost stood down with an 8 jump route...but thought, what the hell! I called in my intent to head to the rescue just for the practice, and started jumping. Fast.

As I made the last jump, I noticed that I was somehow first to the scene. It seems that CMDR PBz_Charlie had computer problems and needed to reboot his system. I slowly initiated contact with the stranded CMDR, allowing PBz_Charlie time to catch up, and dropped into the wing beacon first time. I deployed a couple of tonnes of fuel and waited for PBz_Charlie to arrive and top off the stranded T6. Once done, PBz_Charlie kindly escorted the T6 to the nearest scoopable.

EDIT 2: I forgot I had pics :)

Hope you guys are going to vote for the Gold option in the Rare goods competition.

Nah, Hutton Orbital is a special place to the Fuel Rats. It's on his way there that our GLORIOUS Founder -may his name always be sung in praises- had the idea for our little mischief and as such I voted Hutton Mug. I will buy a real-life one once it's done.

Sorry PBz_Charlie Don't be ! What matters is that the rescuee is safe and that you put First Limpet in.

EDIT : Well well well, 17th save !
It happened in ALRAI SECTOR LS-T B3-6.
I just returned from the kitchen, where I was cooking a tuna salad with vinegar. I sit down and look at the IRC where someone just logged in. I fire the client "just in case" and as the loading screen goes dark I hear a "dink !" that means either someone wrote my name or someone really needs some fuel. Turns out it was the latter and I boost through the letterbox with the game still slowly loading assets.
The client says he was headed to Cauani so I set course while I escape mass lock and immediately warp before alt-tabbing to tell them I'm on my way. He friends me soon after and I correct the course to where he is. He says he still has some fuel and 25min of oxygen, so I don't worry too much. He invites me to wing and we exchange pleasanteries while I'm on my way.
Arriving on scene, he's 73kls away, but I already made a trip to Hutton, so I'm not very impressed.
I drop to his beacon, refuel him and claim this victory for the mischief.

Picture ! you can tell he's good to go because shields are recharging and my limpets are at 1/4 instead of 1/7.

This is why it always a good idea to send more than one Rat. It is also why I like to have Rats on Friend's Lists to see who is where in relation to the Client. We discussed this last night in Rat Chat, tis why I bring it up.

FUEL RAT REPORT
Date: 22 July 3301
Location: Abukunin, 63,000 Ls from jump in location
Ship Type: Sidewinder
Fuel Transferred: 2t
.
This rescue was notable for two reasons. Amongst a flurry of activity in the Rat Cave last night (upwards of 4 rescues simultaneously) a broken call came in for fuel in Abukinin; Abukununinn; Abukunion? Three Rats responded initially, triangulating the signals to the Abukunin system. The challenge was that English was not the Client's native language so all of our usual messages to the Client to turn off systems, log out to main menu, etc had to be translated first. We did not know this until I was 10k Ls from the Client's location at 80c in Supercruise without a Wing Beacon to guide me in.
.
Cue CMDR Kerenn who's tenacity for Rat Races is only surpassed by his skills with language. As soon as I invited him to the wing and explained the language barrier (I understood but could not respond), he immediately went to work explaining the next few steps to the Client. Wing Beacon appeared and I dropped in with limpets for everyone.
.
Without CMDR Kerenn's excellent linguistic skills, this rescue could have had a completely different outcome.
.
.
The other strange activity about this rescue was the number of Federation Navy ships in the area. Wings of Federation Cobras kept jumping in and out of our little pocket of space for no particular reason. I had a full-on stare down with a wing of two that wouldn't budge until I moved. There was no capital ship nearby nor any other noticeable stellar event and the Client was not a threat to the Navy. The mystery continues...
.
Kerenn, I'm looking for any additional information you have on this one as the translator.

Fuel Rat Report
22-23 July 3301
Location: WISE J004945
Ship type: Hauler
Fuel transferred: 2T

Practise makes perfect. After a busy night (3 double rescues, including one on the Xbox), it was time for a Fuel Rat drill. [XB1]Gabirtaro lit the Practise Signal (it's like our Fuel Rat logo, but holding a big #1 hand) in HIP 93618. This was 46 jumps from my original location in Procyon!

The drill was mostly travel time and getting the wings down pat. No sooner had we completed, than BAM! A real XB1 Rat Signal! Only 10 jumps from where we'd finished up in WISE J004945!

Me and Gabirtaro worked together on this one, with big trips between stars and a few refuelling scoops. Not as many instance problems as expected - we both got into a wing pretty quick but couldn't find the client. After a reboot, though, everything came together.

Dropping out of supercruise, there was the stranded CMDR, gently orbiting a brown dwarf in a hauler. Going on some wacky trade run whispered in the bars of Kremainn I think. Though we dropped out of supercruise at the same time (and Gabirtaro was technically in-system first, but just couldn't find the client), he graciously allowed me to cut my Rat-teeth on this cheeky little hauler!

Following the refuel, client was escorted to their destination, another 10 jumps away, and I deposited a nice 250K of discoveries in the local star port, with more to drop back home. My FSD has never seen so much action!

Arc-Rat: 1, Space: 0!

I come back from a night in town with friends (we saw the new Pitch Perfect 2 movie) and think "I'll just login for a sec to say good night to all those awesome fellow chaps down there in ye olde IRC".
First thing I read is "Hello Kerenn, PC rescue in progress".
Before I had time to realize, client is started and I've answered "Where ? galmap is open and awaiting." (that reminds me of a joke...). I am in the middle of nowhere but "always-2-jumps-away©" so I start plotting and jumping. While en-route, domaq invites me to the wing and tells me "he's brazilian". Having met a few brazilians in my time I immediately start speaking spanish on the wing channel and explain with simple words where to go and what to look for. When I arrive in system I see client has targeted "Abukunin 2B" and think "oooh boy, someone isn't at the main star". No beacon in sight, I ask both him and domaq to drop one and see nothing. I target previously mentioned 2B-whatever and read the display twice. 65kls. Well fudge. As I'm making my way forever accelerating, domaq says he's got it and proceeds with the refuelling. I'm still 45kls away. I drop to beacon only to see the client boost away and cannot get a screenshot. So I boop domaq on the nose like this :

Now to regale you with the tale of two saves.
First one was in "MELCIOR"
It was my first Type-9 rescue. Trading without shields or Fuel-Scoop, a bold move !
Nothing weird to report. I was in a damaged Asp and had half my limpets so I followed my wing's wake to make sure he docked in a good port. We both docked at the same Coriolis, I repaired and re-armed limpets.
View attachment 51364

Second one was in "CETI SECTOR RD-B B1"
Call comes in as I'm sitting down to type report on the last one. weirdly IRC is quiet as hell, no answer. Then suddenly while I'm in the middle of dispatching myself and guiding the stranded through the procedure and at the same time navigating the galmap to his location (multi-tasking like a boss), someone yells something about server being unstable.
I set out, stranded CMDR not panicking as he's only low on fuel, doesn't use much and wants to sit in. Forever WitchSpace followed by a deconnection that takes me to main menu, I ask for backup on the IRC. People then tell me they can't even log-in to main menu.
This one I'll have to rough it through.
I have to "start-open" once or twice and then I am plotting a route to... where now ? Galmap's still ing so I go back to IRC as I've seen him write about Jotun... but he's still in-game, floating as a green square over there. Plotting done, routing up... Systems are awefully slow to load, my discovery scanner picks up like a snail on a turtle's back... No matter, the Fuel comes first.
Fortunately both CMDRs where fluent in the wings MEHANIKS, so I arrive on scene and fire half of my limpets at him. He says "I owe you a pint" (should have screenshot-ed that promise of debt) and he's on his way.
Look at the arriving scene, Gorgeous, innit ?

Fuel Rat Report

It is my sad duty to report a loss. And a BAD one.
There will be no humour in this post.

At 2:17pm today a call came in from Cmdr <permission-to-use-name-not-cleared>. Stranded in a Solati conflict zone in an Anaconda with 2min 30sec of Oxygen remaining and no re-buy. I was at work but on the tail end of a lunch-break and only 4 jumps away. With ArcT manning dispatch and Loetmichel on backup it seemed worth a shot.

I got to the system without hitch and had SC'd out to the vicinity of the conflict zones. Client was in Main Menu. Friend request sent and accepted. On an agreed IRC signal he jumped in, invited me to wing and set beacon and I accepted invite, set NavLock, targeted beacon and hit the gas.

250ls (too far too far) vs. 1:30sec
200ls vs. 40sec
150ls vs. 20sec
100ls vs. 10
INTERDICTED but push on
9
5
gone

It was close and without the interdiction I just might have made it.

As it is ... if you're reading this Cmdr ... I'm sorry. I feel like I screwed the pooch.

:-(

Edit: I feel bad that this Cmdr did not get a picture (my reports always have pictures) so here's a picture.

This one was especially difficult. Even so, we can only make two guarantees - we save you or you die. In this case, 2:30 on the clock is a challenge for even the best rats even without NPCs interdicting you!

Commiserations Alec and unnamed CMDR, but that was a tough one to pull off. No blame attaches, other than perhaps to the interfering interdictor.

We should have a Red Cross/Crescent style decal we can fly when on mission.

Rat Report
23.07.3301

Cmdr Alvadar has been stranded for a while but he's about 11 jumps away, I'm at work and I'm still recovering from the previous loss so I figure I'll let someone else do it.

3:56pm
Cmdr Lukey Wukey sends out the signal and I'm only 5 jumps away. Alvadar is still stranded so the jobs are stacking up now.
What the hell ... OMW!
Lukey is in another combat zone, this time around Nanoram. I get there and position myself directly in between the two candidate CZ's.

4:08pm
"When I say go ... log in, add me to wing, set beacon and pray"
(here we go again!)

4:12pm
Some love is duly delivered! (with laser fire going off all around us I should add)

Screenshot_0068_lukey.jpg

4:17pm
I realise I'm now only 6 jumps from Alvadar who is still waiting patiently.
Oh F@#$ IT! go on then.

4:33pm
I'm in position but Cmdr Alvadar has been incomunicado for 20mins now.

4:44pm
Alvadar pops up on main menu and is satiated 2mins later.

Screenshot_0077_alvadar.jpg

It's been a strange day all in all.

A strange day gets stranger. A new XBOX ONE rescue, but sadly a failed one.

Location: 36 Ophiuchi System. CMDR in distress after a supercruise trip of around 0.15ly to station Weinbaum City. Run out of power, now on emergency o2.

[XB1]LocoDingo took a lead of about 800,000ls, but with the client being unable to get into supercruise, we were limited to dropping out as close as we could get to his location. A light-second is quite big, though, and we were unable to locate our thirsty target.

The deep black (well, the rather deeper black of "Friends List Doesn't Work on XBox Elite Dangerous Yet") takes another from us!

If you're measuring your supercruise trip in LS, make sure you know where your nearest station is to bug out and refuel if you won't make it. Maybe notify the RatChat as well, as rescue could be a long time coming. Of course, the real question you should be asking yourself is "why would I do this?" ;)
