I find their decisions regarding skins a bit strange. Pre-set skins are nice, but I expected something like what you would see in a racing game - preset colors and patterns which you can apply/move around/resize to roll your own custom design. They can even charge for each individual paint or pattern. These patterns would be on the clients, so for p2p traffic considerations, instead of saying Player1 has skin A, it says player1 has skin {vector of numbers}. Numbers being for each pattern, Id, posX, posY, scaleX, scaleY, rotation, and RGBA I guess.
The only problem I could think of is players painting their ships in "space camo", like pitch black to make acquiring visuals slightly more difficult, but that makes it more interesting, no? Military planes and ships are painted that way because it's the camo color for where they operate.
I didn't buy any skins because none of them catch my eye in particular, and they don't fit the pilot(s) I'm RP-ing. If they would just let us roll/mix and match our own... Still, you can't see them anywhere yourself other than during outfitting, and that's a big problem IMO.
