I did a ton of Distant Worlds 2 in a Krait Phantom, because it was then brand new IIRC, and looked cooler than the AspX I was flying up to that point, and had loads of fun with it. Looking back, it wasn't a particularly amazing build (I'm pretty sure there was barely any engineering I did to it at the time, just a bunch of A- and D-rated internals), but I gave it a neat green paint job, and took pictures at the major stops with my friends (one of whom did the same journey in a much better engineered
Beluga), all parking our SRVs in a row in front of our ships, watching someone else come in and absolutely
beans trying to land their Anaconda on that early 4g+ planet...

What a sight, watching them panic and nose up at the last moment, only to slam their engines into the ground, bounce, and pop a moment later.
(If you're out there, we salute your sacrifice. o7)
It's a game. Games are supposed to be fun. Sometimes the gentle ribbing from your friends about your choices is part of that fun, and you can have the tenacity to Make It Work Anyway. Our friend in the Beluga was, and is, still legendary for it. If you want to min/max everything, sure, you can argue for exactly whatever EDSY build gives you the absolute maximum jump range, or the highest DPS, etc. etc., and maybe there's a place for those kinds of builds, if that's what makes you happy in a game like this. (Not gonna lie, seeing absolutely silly range numbers after a good neutron scoop in an already decently ranged ship
does trigger the dopamine sometimes.

"I use XYZ to do the thing"
"Oh, did you know ABC would be better because reasons?"
"Yeah, but I like XYZ more"
"Okay, you do you! <3"
That's it. That's all we have to say.

You do you.
