Pay2Win made it to Elite

But it's funny to see how people who didn't miss a single chance to make fun of SC for selling ships for RL money are now supporting Frontier's decision.

but is it the same as what CIG is doing?
I mean, i do think that selling pre-built ships is a bit of a cheap move - however i do expect to have a good laugh when it will be revealed what prebuilt-ships means in FDev Vision (C-rated of B-rated ships? Maybe A-rated Ships? I dont really expect G5 murderboats tho)

The early access Python Mk2 is again a bit of a cheap move - but still, it will be available for everyone 3 months later. It not like they're selling dreams.jpeg
So while i dont really like the early-access-thingies, i may spend my already saved arx on the Python mk2 because, why not?

In the past i purchased arx packages just to support the game. Now i may actually spend the arx on something that may be of real interest to me

Yeah, I also fully expect that the prebuilt options will be worse than e.g. an AXI build suggestion from the players.

Also, I never said Frontier and CIG are 1:1 the same. But it looks like now both are selling ingame ships for money so players don't have to "earn" them the usual way ingame, if they so choose.

but if its fully engineered ships i totally get it. i am facing the task of building a ship to go into those toxic areas where the titans were as well as a titan killer ship. having potentally a ship for cash on the store which is ready to go does kill the motivation for me.
Why does it kill your motivation? I couldn't care less if someone pays for this shiny object, bells and whistles and all. I'll still grind for my ships because I play at my own leisure. If I decide to choose to pay for this ship then I should be thanked for helping keeping the game alive. FDev is NOT doing this for charity and only so much they can do to get money to keep the servers going. I'm playing a little Devil's Advocate on this because it seems some people are acting like the Apocalypse has arrived for ED, which is a weekly thing anyway. Even if FDev said their store will always remain cosmetic, their position has evolved. That's not unusual. I would suggest that's the natural course of progression of evolution for the game or at least keeping it going. The comparisons to SC are moot to me. Some people would the game to remain in the same state as the original game from the Commodore64 days.
Maybe I'm just missing something to be upset about.

As an original Kickstarter backer, I - not even aware of the term back then - exploited "Pay2Win". I mean, what did my extra money paid get me that others at a lower-tier did not?

An Imperial Eagle for free - I can beat up your Sidewinder!
A Cobra Mk III for free - I can really beat up your Sidewinder!
Some extra credits - I can buy better weapons, for beating up your Sidewinder!

So, I fully embraced P2W without even knowing what it was lol. Actually, I didn't. I didn't use the Eagle or Cobra until I had enough credits to buy and equip one. I wanted to start from a humble E-Rated Sidewinder with loaned modules - I still have it, the Eagle and the Cobra :)

Words never before uttered in the same sentence 😜

This unfortunately seems to be a distressing constant with FDev. Would it really have killed them to hold back on communicating this until they had the details ready to present to us? I feel like providing more detail could potentially have answered many questions and reduced backlash.

Will these full builds NOT be available for in-game credits at all then? So:

FDev: You have to grind for it (in game)
Also FDev: Or you have to grind for it, at your job £££

Speaking personally, while I wish much of the Engineering grind was less so, I do, strangely enough, actually want to PLAY the game, not pay to hit milestones in it. What next? Buy your Elite Combat Rank here. Suck at Exobiology? Get your genuine Elite Rank here! Ok, I'm joking... I hope. A short-cut to get to the fun stuff I can understand. But having that not-fun barrier their in the first place, cha-ching!

Basically, real money is replacing potentially lots of time. The time it takes to earn the credits (likely not that much), the time it takes to gather the materials (likely quite a lot). When playing a game, surely spending the time on it is the point? Spending it wisely and having fun is important too, so, whatever FDev offer for money in this regard it's effectively acknowledging that a particular gameplay loop is BORING for people and not worth their game time. Quite honest of FDev really... if they weren't asking money for that admission lol.

Let's see how the builds actually look. I dont really expect them to be engineered. More likely like Corilios prebuilt ships (if ever - they may actually not even be A-rated)

For example: Coriolis Exploration Krait Mk2

I have a brilliant idea. Taking money only from noobs is amateur hour Frontier, you want to take money from everyone.

So, we bring back v1 engineering, but only in ships purchased for Arx. But you won't know what you get until you cash out. ;)

We could call them...Loot Ships!

It's never been done before! We have to start using this phrase more often since we are attempting to emulate our capitalist idols. :p

This does happen in a lot of games and it's made more appealing or digestible to the players by framing it as XP boosters or other helpful things.

In elite it would be something like a permit (for arx) to a system that has increased exploration payouts with rank gain (beyond the current bonuses via powerplay).

Or extra tools for exobiology like the most requested ability to store more than one sample simultaneously - if saving time is worth ARX then why not make every QoL feature an ARX unlock too 🤔 .

This spoils everything since now when you as a player are talking about issues with the game you're not suggesting ways to make things better but giving frontier info about pain points they could monetize down the line turning your engagement with the game against you.

Agreed. I do like the ideal of some stations selling off the shelf builds for certain roles. However, only doing it for ARX isn't great.

Tell you what, if FDev did "Material Packs" for ARX I can see people paying for those. There might be a "Shield Engineering Pack" that contains various materials for shield mods. Of course, every pack would have to be mostly useless stuff....

Oh, how about we can buy packs of random materials, with a chance to get some good stuff! :)

@metatheurgist - heh, I saw there were new posts while typing this, and saw yours lol.
