Did you know that the XBOX wireless wheel, is fully compatible with your PC, including the rumble feature. obviously your going to need a wireless receiver, these come with the Xbox wireless windows Controller.

I assumed this wheel was compatible but Microsoft don't tell you these things.
In my opinion a very accurate wheel that you can pick up for £15 or less.

over an 8 year period the PC works out cheaper.

Only if you're the kind of person who'd buy 5 or more brand new retail games a year. For people like myself, who buys mostly downloadable titles and the occasional second-hand retail game, it's much cheaper to use a console. :D

To the "Steam Sales" comment, I'll add - XBLA sales/PSN sales.

Also, with all due respect who keeps the same PC for 8 years without spending more on hardware to move with the times ?

As Andy said, with just under £800 for a PC ... pretty bad PC if you ask me

Also worth bearing in mind that the Playstation Plus subscription is (currently, at least) entirely optional. All it provides is access to a number of discounted and free games, as well as an online backup service for game saves. So it can't really be counted into the cost of PS4. Most people I know who really like PS Plus pay for that instead of buying retail games, because it gives them access to such a big library.

XBox Live is a slightly different matter, since it is (I think?) required for a number of multiplayer and online services? Certainly I have a 360 on which I play without an XBL membership, but then online multiplayer is rarely my thing.

it gets worse, a careful examination of the figures will reveal they are in Dollars, not Pounds so the figure your looking for is £500 not £800.

744.00 USD = 500.242 GBP

while you could build an acceptable PC for that money it wouldn't have the spec to go the distance and with such a tight budget your not going to be buying parts with a lengthy warranty on them.

as any PC builder will tell you, cheap often equals nasty and a few pounds saved on parts now will end up costing you more in the long run.

Saying that though once it's gaming life is over you may be able to squeeze a few more years use out of it in another capacity - something that's not an option with consoles since Sony removed support for installing your own OS.
