News Peek of the Week: Cobra Mk IV

Looking at it I am undecided. I would like to see more of it, what it looks like when its in the game. I still think the present Cobra looks better at first glance. Mind you I wasn't that keen on the Viper either when the first images of that appeared but loved it when I saw it in game. One thing though with this apparent increase in size there might also be more equipment slots for other goodies. Which would be a good thing as the Cobra series has always been aimed at being a multi-role ship capable of doing a range of jobs. The extra hardpoint of course will also be useful.

Same old whiners whining. Doesn't matter what FD do the hard core whiners will keep up their barrage. Flame on guys your pathetic. If you don't like it, don't buy it, same as all the knockers, of which many are here, of Horizons.

Stop calling the fangs "teeth", it's a cobra, a snake, so they have to be Fangs! Good for ramming with.

H.

For the record, the cobra a viper class (venomous) snake so it has fangs. Constrictor class snakes have teeth, and when they bite, they tend to leave quite a few behind. At least the ones that have bitten me did. Luckily, I never got tagged by my diamondback rattlesnake while I had him.

People are allowed to express their opinions, the last time I checked.

The problem with this Mk IV is that is looks more like a variant of the Mk III rather than a new ship. Just check how different Cobra Mk I was from Mk III and extrapolate from there.

The point is: The Cobra MkIV is a variation of the Cobra MkIII - something that people asked for since long. The consensus was: "Please, FD, introduce ships with slight variations in stats so commanders can find thier best fit. We don't even care if you use the same models!"

Now FD made up their mind and create ship variants. They even alter the models a little bit in order to create visual recognizability...

...and guess what people complain about!

Oh, I love you, internet!

I'm personally happy enough with the degree of the modifications (relatively minor); just not sure about the styling of the modifications.

Though, using variants as close as this to bump the ship count to over 30 would not be a good call IMO (not sure whether they're doing that or not).

I don't get why people seem so negative about PL, horizons and the CobraMkIV.
Come on guys we are being given some pretty cool stuff here why are we being so negative?
I personally am excited about the MkIV. I'm excited about PL and I'm excited about the future of this awesome game.
Thanks FD and thanks DB. Hope we see more of the same in months/years to come.

I agree with you as far as the specs go. I like the cobra a lot, and feel it would be nice to have another cobra option rather than feeling pressed into using an ASP as a cobra upgrade.

Whilst I agree that more choice is, of course, good, you should also not feel 'pressed' into getting an Asp. Rather, getting an Asp should be a pleasure. A culmination of all your hard work in lesser ships. A blessed singularity within the context of the game. You get to join the prestigious group of Asp owners, proud to fly the best, all-round ship in the galaxy. Lakon even rhymes with Bacon - the tastiest food stuff in the galaxy! Try it today (An Asp. Not Bacon. Though if you can manage both...)

You know I completely agree with you both about people whining, but can't for the life of me understand why you chose this thread to comment on peoples' negativity.

No one here is complaining about Frontier creating ship variants, or adding new designs for these variants.

No one is threating to quit playing because FD have taken time to create the MK IV rather than create a variant of their favourite ship, or quit because of this design.

No one is complaining that FD haven't fixed X,Y or Z before creating new content.

No one has brought up Solo/Group/Open, or Pirates/Greifers, or Trading/BHing/Exploring.

No one has called FD incompetent and stated that they could do better.

This is simply some people discussing the look of a new ship in a civil and friendly manner, and sometimes even sharing some humour.

These forums would be very dull if everyone only every wrote positive comments. Negativity can add interesting points to a discussion.

Repped just for the demonstrative Asp love.
Agree Asp is a pleasure to attain to. It's my 'aspirational' (no pun intended) ship and one which I intend to get after my current long trip in my much loved DBE (yes I love my DBE).
Asp is great, yes she's expensive, but crikey look what you can do with her. Fantastic vessel, one which I have recently come to understand is truly one of the best ships in the game just through coriolis and reading the threads. I've not even flown her yet for flips sake and I'm hooked.
Can't wait to dock back in civilised space and treat myself to one.
Yes, agree, Lakon and Bacon...winners both 😀

Yes. My hope is, however, that it's not available on the buy screen to those who can't get it with the purchase option blanked out. Otherwise there will be demands to be able to get access somehow and if they cave on that we're back to PTW slippery slope. Just make it so it doesn't even show up on the shipyards of those who can't get it.

Yes I think your right; for those who can't get it, the option should be blanked out. Or no visual UI elements showing it as an option.

THIS^^; and I rep'd you. Just stop with the undeserved negativity...FD is doing this right.

so, the extra weapon slot will be on the underside?

seeing the trend in "upgrade" versions, i can't wait to see the upgraded phyton (Wings or nacellas?) or the clippers upgrade (3rd nacella!)

Well, you do make some valid points about that ship, but for me, I do feel pressed into an asp if I want more cargo space and I wish I had another option and am really hoping this new cobra does the trick. My other reasons are silly ones. For example (and some will disagree) I cannot get past the boost noises coming out of an asp. It like here I come, wheeeeee bmmmmmmurghhhh bang! I feel like I'm flying a Buick with a bad exhaust pipe, pulling up to school to pick up my kids, who are hiding in the back of the crowd. "Are you with him?". "Uh........no."
