News Peek of the Week: Cobra Mk IV

Something like this would have been better.

Not being nasty here but from what we've seen I'm not a great fan of the look of the Cobra MK IV.. it looks kinda naff imo and is reminiscent of a boy racer putting a big spoiler and alloys on the family run around. I also think the Imperial Eagle has also much to be desired. Both of which seem to be a quick and dirty effort in pumping out a few more ships - the results look a bit cheap. :/

I also think its not in keeping with the usual high standard we've come to expect.

It's not what it looks like that counts...its what's under the bonnet;)

a conda packed into a shell of a cobra would do nicely:D

That looks way nicer that the tub on offer.

I want that Cobra mk 4.1

PATCH IT !!

I know. But Frontier seems a bit lazy on ships... Don't get me wrong I like the overall style of the ships, I don't want future airplanes like Star Citizen... But some models seems to had more love than others. That Cobra would looks awesome in the game.

Will there be any sort if reward for those in that took part in the GPP for Xbox or for those that aren't as yet getting Horizons?

Some models looked way better in concept. Look at those Python concepts!!!

These are really cool. I especially like the one on the left - is that a double-cockpit / bridge?

What both of these have in common is the shapes have a bit more detail and definition than the existing Python, which - like the Cobra, Sidewinder, Asp etc. - looks like a low-poly model scaled up. Would love to see these in the game.

's funny you should say that. I was showing off my Clipper to my housemate last night and her first comment was 'it's not made of polygons'. :)

Clipper is one of those ships who had "more love" imo. Now, I love my Viper sharp edges, don't get me wrong... But some ships like that latest Cobra seems more like cut and paste from an older model with a body kit added to it. Python is another one of the ships that could look a lot better imo.

Hah. But it is... special, magical, Imperial polygons!

Yeah, some of the ships definitely buck the trend - the Clipper, Courier and the DiamondBacks have more detail and definition. I think any "lore" ships to come will try to be fairly faithful to the original, in all their oversized, low-polygon "splendour". But for any newer ships they'll add more varied shapes. I think. Hope.

Yes I 100% agree, this "new" Cobra is a lazy design job, I'm really sorry FD it is!

I would rather have 10 well designed ships than 20 where its just some re-scale and slapping fins on it!

This one need to go back to the drawing board ASAP!

:) No, the thing is this. Its called a Cobra right? So it has to maintain its main design right?. If you deviate from this it won't be a "Cobra" anymore.
So now that we know that, the only differences can be internal.

So "lazy design job" now becomes (in this case)"good design decision"....I look forward to the same Cobra with slightly different internals and hardpoint placement. lol
