General Physical Multicrew - Allow Physically Present Passengers to Receive Materials

So the concept is pretty straight forward - I'd like to see physical multicrew share resources collected with currently onboard team members at time of material collection.

Back when we received the request for Focused Feedback - Balancing Ship Engineering & Material Gathering I made the following suggestion:
So here's how I would make Material Gathering a Team Activity:
  • If there are people who are physically on your ship (read: Not tele-presence multicrew) any engineering material you pick up with your cargo scoop/limpets is duplicated to each team member currently onboard the ship. (EDIT: I'd also like to see this apply to non-team mission rewards the pilot receives.)
  • If you have team members onboard the ship and you go to collect a material that your inventory is full with, instead of disallowing you to pick it up, allow the pickup and distribute the material to the onboard crew members.

Engineering is in a great state now. However it is still pretty much the core progression mechanic and as such time spent out of your ship and in someone else's is a direct hindrance to your progression. This actively discourages the use of physical multicrew. I'd personally like to see that change.

I'm against more gamification and I would absolutely hate to see that implemented. But seeing which way FDEV is pushing ED, you may actually get what you want some time maybe.

Personally, I'm all for more realistic/hatdcore approach. Because lore wise, what is this, magic?

As one that is also more into hardcore rules in the games I play I'd like that as well but that would require making ship engineering materials physical which would mean that players could trade them like Odyssey materials anyways and the duplication wouldn't be required. You are right though what I suggest is more likely to get adopted though which is why I tailored the feedback to accomplish the goal of fixing a target problem as easy as I could see myself.

Ultimately how it's addressed is irrelevant, I've just had so many opportunities to play with other people in a direct way but because physical multicrew directly results in a halt of progression the precious play time we have as adults very quickly veto'd the activity type and regularly does so despite me having access to to others who also enjoy the features added by Odyssey.

That boat already sailed when they made bounties magically multiply. Frontier will continue to disappoint I think. Incredible that apparently it's still too hard to get mats.

Bounties, lorewise, are just credit vouchers issued by an incomprehensible and unaccountable 3rd party. Everything having to do with credits is arbitrary. It's not a hard thing to justify bounty replication compared to the absurdities with materials, which we are supposed to at least semi-pretend are physical objects we pick up and put somewhere and do things with. Except they're really just holograms which we bump into and then it increments our bank account with one more of over a hundred different types of Disney Dollars, all with terrible exchange rates.

They are both absurd. It shouldn't have happened with bounties and now people are asking the same for mats. There is no end to this slide. What next? Someone in MC should just get the same ship when the pilot buys it? Why not? It's all just pixels. 🤷‍♂️

I think the end-game they're after is that you just get given full mats every 5 minutes for logging in. Maybe they can add that to Powerpleh 2.0?

Slipperly slope fdev have set themselves on :D

I am in favour of sharing gathered materials in physical multicrew. Given how easier it has become to access them, it would make more sense to split them, rather than multiplying, maintaining some form of realism, so to speak.

And the image of my CMDR disembarking my friend's Anaconda, carrying two duffel bags full of focus crystals, slowly crawling back to my Type-7 is amusing (and immersive!) to me.

Was that only three years ago, I thought it was longer.

From comments elsewhere I feel this is a minor issue for the physical multi crew community.

However if it could be done so telepresence didn’t gain the mats, after all they aren’t really there, then I don’t have too big a problem with the mats being divided amongst those physically present obviously if they don’t divide evenly the ship owner gets the remainder.

What wouldn’t be right was if twenty mats were found and everybody got twenty mats.
